New Reputation System

Reputation has been enabled. Use it well, biatchs.

Bullet Magnet 01-12-2008 04:56 PM

This will either be a great success or a colossal failure. There is no middle ground here on OWF.

Fun times...

T-nex 01-12-2008 05:48 PM

Wow cool... But. The star-system didn't really get changed, did it?

skillya_glowi 01-12-2008 06:00 PM

What does it do exactly?

No, it didn't. That might happen later if we can find a nice equation to produce a good system of stars.

Strike Witch 01-12-2008 06:39 PM

I am on a distinguished road?

How do we make it change?

Bullet Magnet 01-12-2008 09:28 PM

Alcar, perhaps you could use your immeasurable wit to come up with new descriptions for each level of reputation more suitable for this particular audience. And you know what I mean by that...

dripik 01-13-2008 03:04 AM

I feel a stickied FAQ sort of thread coming up about this new system... At first, I thought that the little green box is a new version of the Offline/Online icon.

I guess people will mostly use the Rep function when they see a particularly hilarious/wierd/shocking/etc post, so things might liven up a bit from now on. Or the forum shall be flooded with posts including second rate attempts at humour in the hope of gaining more Rep points.

dripik 01-13-2008 03:43 AM

Titles as in the 'distinguished road' kind of stuff, or maybe replacing the old OW-related titles and custom titles with these Rep-related rankings?

As a sidenote, I think it would be reasonable to disable repping our own posts.

Mojo 01-13-2008 03:45 AM

How about we just give me all the stars, so you all can bow down, and serve your true master?

Alcar, I challenge you for a game of wits, strength, speed and queerness!

You might win one of them, but I shall be victorious!

Anyways, I can just ruin Hobos rep now? Cool!

EDIT: Ooh, was that you Hobo, who gave me a red card? :P

We already cannot rep our own posts

Mojo 01-13-2008 03:53 AM

Only see what others repped for us :P.

dripik 01-13-2008 04:08 AM

Oh, I see it now. -1 Rep to conscience which prevented me from clicking.

By the way, is 10 the basic Rep point amount for everyone?

Alcar 01-13-2008 04:08 AM

:

Perhaps stars could reflect posts and titles could reflect reputation?

Unfortunately, both stars and titles can only be based off of minimum posts.

:

Not a bad idea! +1 for Nate! :p

(Thats how it should be used, see children?)

Sort of. Reputation-giving-power increases or decreases according to a long list of options. I've currently on 10. I believe you are on 9, the same with Hobo.

Now, as for the levels, I've attached the list so you can see what they are at the moment, and whether they should be changed. Ideas would be great!

-9999 rep?

would you have to a mixture of Hobo,Super Munch, Abe Is Now!,me,Patrick Vykers and Mathe9r to get that much?

Bullet Magnet 01-13-2008 06:48 AM

You forgot Lord Clutcher.

Mojo 01-13-2008 07:25 AM

Methinks Codeathmawk should be rewarded with a -9999.

Wil 01-13-2008 08:08 AM

Urgh. Me no likey. I hope this either works well and I grow to like it, or it fails and we need never worry about it again.

Same could be said about OddChat, but what do you know.

Interesting stuff here. Although, I want to know how this will alter life at OWF. This whole thread was created just to alter the star system. Is it possible that after a number of reputation gain, we gain an extra star, sort of like how the post count did that orginally? Like, after +30, we get an extra star and +70 we get another, and so on.

As I've already stated, stars (ranks) as well as titles are based off posts. Nothing but posts.

Reputation only effects usergroup promotion - but that is something we don't use here.

Slaveless 01-13-2008 08:49 AM

Sorry, didn't read that. If that is the case, I guess we can just see how this turns out, like what Max said.

You were saying?

EDIT: Peter changed mine back. That knave!

T-nex 01-13-2008 09:36 AM

Maybe this is going a bit too much into details, but it could be fun if you changed the rep-"titles" to something oddworld related. Or changed the graphics for the ... green boxes.

Wil 01-13-2008 10:01 AM

Agreed. If user ranks are Oddworld‐based, so should the rep titles. By the way, where are users’ rep titles displayed? Where can we view all the post ratings for a particular user?

:

()
you could have you oddworld stars for posts in the regular purple, and the amount of years you've spent on the forums would be shown with say green oddworld stars

I know you’re just giving an example, but the colour of the W part of the OWI symbols already changes according to staff rank and status as an Oddworld Inhabitant.

If stars are only based on posts, how can their function even be changed?

Salamander 01-13-2008 11:59 AM

I've been to another forum where they have rep, it's better implemented there (obviously, they've had it longer), but the one noticable thing is that we don't have numbers. How can you really tell the difference between yourself and another member if you don't have a number? What I mean by a number is like in the following: Salamander is on a distinguished road (X). The X represents your rep as a figure.

Wil 01-13-2008 01:32 PM

Haha, my rep power is greater than Alc’s. :D:D:D

Salamander 01-13-2008 02:01 PM

Would rep power be how much rep you can give, or something like that?

Havoc 01-13-2008 02:23 PM

I'd like to know that...

Wil 01-13-2008 02:33 PM

That would be my guess. Is there any way to delete the rep you give a post? I gave negative rep to Cream, who is new, mostly just to test how rep works, and his rep plummeted. :(

Also, could someone with the power split this thread so we have one dedicated to reputation, and another dedicated to stars? I think it would b appropriate now that rep has actually been activated.

mudling 01-13-2008 08:09 PM

Wait, so rep power is the new system? Only just noticed it, so I assume it's new and searching won't help, so how does it work?
Haha, I would like to know since I'm still on 0.

skillyaslig 01-13-2008 08:50 PM

hmm, certainly does your head in after a while. But, its simple change, which is good. People sometimes get overly confused...I dunno, you seem to have enough, a join date, stars, posts...but, maybe once you have exceded a certain post count, the stars change colour? Not just for mods, but mega posters...hmm, lotsa options :D

Carnix 01-13-2008 11:00 PM

Please, someone explain how this rep thing works.

Alcar 01-14-2008 04:11 AM

Haha, my rep power is greater than Alc’s. :D:D:D

I originally had Administrators set to a static reputation power, but in doing so, it would never climb or drop as certain 'goals' were achieved. If you look at Xavier, his reputation power is 20. This is because for every 1,000 posts you gain an extra point of rep power (therefore Xavier has 13 rep points based on posts alone). I'll attach what the settings are at the bottom of this post to better explain.

You can't delete the reputation yourself - but I've done it for you through the AdminCP. And I'll get right on that - splitting the thread, that is.

Nate 01-14-2008 05:06 AM

So, if I've got this correct, if I add or take away rep from someone, they'll change by 11 points? Can't you add more power based on a member's position in the mod heirarchy?

Also, where can we see our reputation? I can only see the power.

If it is positive reputation, it will add 11 rep points to someone. However, if it is negative reputation then the rep power is halved and floor'ed before it is subtracted from someone. In this instance it'd work out to be: floor(-11/2) = -5.

As for adding more power based on heriarchy, I'll look into that when I get home. I might be able to whip up a hook, because if we use the built-in option, our rep power would not increase as we reach certain milestones (it would remain static).

mudling 01-14-2008 06:23 AM

Wait, it says the defualt is 10, so shouldn't we all be raised to that as a starting point? or is that points?
*edit* Ok, I get it now,, it is points, and you can give each other points.
Which makes me think, which 24 hour clock are we running by (For the amount you can give to be reset), and what if users mistreat this (IE, two users give each other points daily)

metroixer 01-14-2008 12:25 PM

That is something we have to trust all the users on considering giving each other points daily I guess.

mitsur 01-14-2008 04:07 PM

This is strange. Suddenly I'm all excited I got a 'Nice Idea' on my rep box on my suggestion for the star system. This thing is slowly influencing me to make posts that will win me rep points.

This thing is making me get into touch with the side of me that gets happy over what other people think of me.

Destroy it.

Nah, not really. I'm likin' it.

P.S. 6 points away from being tied with Alcar, teehee

Mutual Friend 01-14-2008 04:54 PM

An evidently overly-complex idea that is just going to inspire people to counter-attack and go on charm offensives in attempts for the world to know how popular they are.

Sounds good to me.

Alf Shall Rise 01-14-2008 06:03 PM

This'll sure bring a whole new look into OWF. I'm actually looking forward to this.
