What is the best pSX emulator to run AO?

EPSXE is a good emulator, its a pain to configure though, you can get one for the xbox too if its modded, but the xbox dosen't like to read psx1 cd's :/

2D graphics are all messed up.
I use pSX v1.13. That's ok.

If you don't know the answer, don't post. It's pretty simple.

You shouldn't be emulating Abe's Oddysee. Can't you just play it on the PS1 normally or just buy it for the PC like a normal person?

1st I have the PC version.
2nd If I wanted to play on PS1, I would do it.

I like ePSXe, but the real trick is finding the best config: It took me an hour to get Spyro the Dragon right.

Well, I just got ePSXe. Actually extracting AO ROM (I have the game, my playstation broke >_>) to my documents right now. Although I'm not sure if I'm doing this right XD.

It ok, I used ePSXe, with Pete's Soft GPU, Eternal SPU, and the Sapu CD plugin. And a 7502 Bios.
It only take 10 minutes to configure the graphics for AO.

Surely the legality of such emulators is questionable. Though as two GD proficient moderators have posted here i'll assume they've given it the ok.

Right, since people seem to be unclear on this:

- The 2D graphics in EPSXE are not screwed up if you use the right GPU plugin and configure it correctly

- EPSXE is not illegal, however it requires a copy of the psx BIOS to run which is ilegal if you don't own a real playstation (I downloaded my bios from my PS1 via a comms cable/ catflap)

- There are some ps1 emulators like Bleem! which are discontinued because they came packaged with the ps1 bios, thus sony sued them for a stupid amount of money and shut them down.

- There are no ps1 "ROMS" they are disc images or real cd's, using a disc image is illegal because it means you've got a copied version of an orignal disc ( yes you might have made it from your "real" ps1 disc but thats still illegal remeber )

- So in short, you have to own a real ps1, you need an original copy of the ps1 version of the game, if you have a disc image its illegal, same for a copy of the ps1 bios without owning a ps1

Is it illegal if you use the actual PS1 disc in the disc drive?

no, and I dont know why this forum would have anything against emulators either, basicly dont pirate the psx bios or AO/AE and you're good

What is legal about emulator:
If you HAVE the CD, or game, and it dosent work and you download whatever it is to play with it, then its ok.
you CAN use the CD in your drive.
Illegal:
Downloading the things if you dont have it, and stealing stuffs. I thinks thats about it.
Oh, and ESPXE is pretty good i heard.

I'm pretty sure we discussed emulations of Oddworld here a while ago and pretty much everyone went mad because we weren't allowed to talk about such evil things here.

Yep. Emulators are difficult for us (the staff) to work out what exactly constitutes an infraction of the law, and hence our rules. Emulators are not necessarily illegal. Downloading the game from anywhere is not up for discussion, especially telling how to do it, because there is then nothing to stop the curious downloading the games illegally.

What they should do, is just release the game online for free. I mean, in real world terms, the game is actually hard to find. But everyone loves it! Come on Oddworld. Let us have it.

I can definitely understand anything on the PS2 age and up.

They don't even do that with SNES games, what makes you think its going to happen with AO? Its their IP they can do whatever the hell they like with it, plus you could just keep saying that for every game or as some excuse to justify piracey

Besides, they'll probably want to rerelease the games in parallel with the movies.

i have the abe's oddysee ps1 version and i use a emulator that has a ps1 for a logoand works perfet with all games, i have hundreds and all work, depends on your computer speed.:( but i dont know what the prgrams called.
