So I get this email...

So one day like any other I get this email from somebody named "wendy" I assume it's just junk mail. You know some email linking to a porn site. Instead it says:
:

Hey there, My name is wendy
I noticed your online profile i was wondering
do you have facebook or can we chat on IM?

I notice however that this email says it is being sent to blake_178@hotmail.com... my email is blackbomberman@hotmail.com
Well I'm really bored so I reply:
:

Who are you? How do I know your not one of those millions of girls on the net trying to sell something? Sorry if your not but this email is pretty left field.

I figure that it is just a fake person and that I won't get a reply later. But 9 days later, today, I get two emails from a different email address. These two emails are from someone named Evgenija. At first I had no idea they were linked to the first one. They were both titled Re: Facebook so I figured I was getting a friend request or something from somebody Wil(Max the Mug) knows. Seeing as the only person on my Facebook is Wil.
So I open it up to see:
:

evgeshi@clapmail.info[/email] ]
Oh!!! I forgot to attach my photos...
This is me )))

Evgenija mailto:evgeshi@clapmail.info

Seeing the thing at the bottom I realize this is from the same person and that it may indeed be someone just trying to chat with me on Facebook. I take a look at the two attached files to see quite a good looking woman.

Well now that I've seen these photos I can't help but to wonder who this person is and am looking forward to talking to her. But then I read the email that was below this one:
:

Hi my new friend
Im glad to see that you have decided to reply,I see it is very short letter.
It is all right because you are astonished to get my letter.
I want you to know that I have only good intentions and I have not any secrets.
The thing is that I will work in your country for three months or so and
I would like to meet a nice man to fall in love or just be closest friends.
I don't want to live in Russia because I have not any chances here,
it is hardly possible to explain from first time but I want you to know my
plans.
I will work in any shop, bar or restaurant the agency that i am going through
will suggest me some locations.
It will be my choice in the end as to what option to go for.
So I will have a simple work till I improve my English. And I can choose any
town of your area, agency will only help me to get a visa and all travel
documents + some suggested placed to work in.
My best friend last year met the man from the USA when she worked there for
three months, too.
She had two jobs. From morning till 4 pm she worked in amusement park and after
it she worked as a waitress in some bar till midnight.
She was very tired of course but made very good money there.
It is special programm for young people who wants to work abroad and I think it
is the right way for me ,
I am lost here, and I think that I look pretty enough to find a better place .I
want to repeat the same way,it is
only my chance to meet a nice man.I want to work in USA or in Europe or any
nice country. I am full of plans and different dreams and I want to share my
life with good man because I'm also full of love and tenderness,I know that
I am not so beautiful like Hollywood Princess but I do hope to meet my Prince
and
I am sure he will be not be disappoined to meet me in the real life! This is why
I am going to go through the same way.
Well,I will close this letter and I do hope to get your reply.
I will leave russia in two weeks or so (I can't tell you everything exactly
right now) and I would like tobe sure that I have the man who waits for me
there. I will work all day and I want to find a man to spend all free time
together to get to know each other better.if you have any interest to meet me I
will be more than happy to meet you too.
I will tell you all details about me and my life if you like my pictures and
want to meet me! please send picture of you too!!!
I write to you with my new mailbox evgeshi@clapmail.info, please write
letters now only on this mailbox
I will wait your next letter.
Kiss you , Evgenija (this is my name)!

My first thoughts were of how in no way, shape, or form did I want a commitment with this woman. I had no idea who she was. She just wanted to get out of Russia and needed support. I'd seen this stuff before I just pondered it for a moment. I began to think how odd it was she had randomly started talking to me. I looked at her email address (evgeshi@clapmail.info) and thought it was odd that it ended in info. So I copied 'clapmail.info' and googled it. Five links pop up and four of them say 'Scam' so I know thats not good. I click on the top one to find a site where multiple people have reported her of being a 'Dating scammer' apparently she talks guys into sending her money so she can fly over to them and she never shows up. They had posted several of her emails and pics.
I was just so shocked I hadn't thought for a second after reading that big email that she was a scammer but someone who needed help getting out of a poor place.

Well now my question to you is: Should I just confront her telling her what I've found out and most likely not get a reply. Should I toy with her to see what I can get from her? What would you do?

Alcar 08-14-2007 07:42 PM

Toy with the bitch.

Alcar...

Alf Shall Rise 08-14-2007 08:05 PM

Don't confront. That would be a bad idea, toy with her, make her think you're clueless about what she's going to do.

Toy with the bitch.

Alcar...

Yeah, mix things up a bit!

You should ask her to send YOU money so YOU can leave Russia! It'll be fun!

Marvak 08-14-2007 08:12 PM

You're the master, Venks. Talk with her in IM and question her a bit till she breaks.
Then report her to the police. Hooray.
[Edit] Andandand, how do you know those photos are of her, hmm? It could be some ephebophillic 70 year old man for all you know.

Salamander 08-14-2007 08:25 PM

Convince her to cyber with you, but don't reciprocate. Then confront her.

mitsur 08-14-2007 09:16 PM

Fuck that. Pretend to understand, and offer to send her several expensive gifts. Include a few examples (laptop, iPod, etc.)

When she picks one, make a totally false version and send it to her. (I.E. the computer is a 3-ring binder with cardboard keys and a marker screen, iPod a mentos box with colored to look like one) Then rig it so she pays he shipping.

Havoc 08-15-2007 01:11 AM

LOL! Oh I so wanna do that sometime. I'm gonna reply to my spam too!

Zozo the Zrilufet 08-15-2007 08:30 AM

Eh, I suggest confrontation, I dunno. Maybe you should make a poll, scamming her back seems kinda low to me.

Laser 08-15-2007 09:50 AM

easy!
say that you are Bill gates
Then send her a massive cheque for infinate pounds made out of paper and with a false signiture on it.
Then tape a note on the back saying HA HA GOT YOU!

Mac Sirloin 08-15-2007 11:15 AM

Send her some pictures of yourself, but just send pictures of some fat old guy, and say

"REALLY looking forward to meeting you, as a matter of fact, I am in Russia right now, how about we meet?"

That'll fend her off.

Hobo 08-15-2007 12:51 PM

Copy and paste everything PV ever posted into an email to her. That'll teach her

Spirrow 08-15-2007 01:05 PM

You know you're all being idiots. Not one of you stopped to think about her(?) being some cyberhacker and possibly looking for oneways into Venk's computer.

Besides, if she was trying honest business (and it's obvious she was not from the beginning of the second email) she should not show superhot pictures of herself straight from the beginning, but more casual clothing. Also makes you wonder who took the photo, unless she had it on the Auto-Flash setting.

I read in a library book that I think was called Net Crimes and Misdimeanors, that you shouldn't play around with people like that and encourage them nor confront the directly and blow their cover (that will just piss them off and they will try hacking your computer of sending you constant spam and trouble), but instead find out who their Internet Provider (IP) is and getting them to close down the troublemakers email account with as little attention as possible drawn to you.

Dear.. God. No one deserves that. Have some mercy upon the poor woman!

Wow, Pat, I didn't expect you to have a reaction even remotely non-hostile.
I am impressed.

Mutual Friend 08-15-2007 02:41 PM

You didn't? You'll notice that he does that when his name is brought up in a random context. Makes him feel special.

RELEVANT: Seems like a nice gal.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

I got a weird e-mail once from an african, who said he's sending me the will money of a relative who deid over there in a helicopter crash.

Wil 08-15-2007 04:10 PM

Yay, I get a free plug! Or did I pay for it in ways unmentionable? At first I thought you should confront the person, whoever it actually is, but they clearly have a decent understanding of Internet technologies, and I wouldn’t risk incurring their wrath. Don’t respond.

Report it. People get hurt by these tactics, and you’ll do more good by reporting it than toying with this person, which probably won’t even phase the person.

Agreed. Ten characters

Patrick Vykkers 08-15-2007 09:19 PM

I think this should be closed. It's just a personal advice thread turned into a circlejerk ground for horny men.

GTFO. Finally an interesting thread and you want it closed?

Messing with 'her' would be great but, as others have suggested, the repercussions may not be. I always forget how much power internet criminals have these days...

Patrick Vykkers 08-16-2007 01:21 AM

"Interesting"? It's just a bunch of people acting like 12 year olds and posturbating.

Laser 08-16-2007 01:48 AM

how about just reporting he/she/it to the police or what ever
that should be good enough also get a virus scan to scan her/his/its emails

Matriar 08-16-2007 11:47 AM

I'd be more afraid that the photos she sent to you are not really photos about her. X] *imagines one fat, ugly, old woman*

Dude, seriously, I don't think it's allowed for her to work in another country without any right working-visa to that.
I know that, just found it out since I wanted to work in the US to earn money. But for foreigns, it's forbidden. You need a visa.

Ask her about that before you let her go in your country or you're gonna get into lotta trouble...

Abeguy 08-16-2007 01:47 PM

I've always wanted to toy with people like that. go ahead

tashi 08-16-2007 05:26 PM

So Venks....wotcha gonna do? Tho i reckon if you're gonna toy with her, go to a net cafe or summat....and have fun ;)

timbo81 08-16-2007 05:48 PM

hi there I just registered on this forum to say yeah it's definately a scam. I got the same email wording and everything from zhenya@clapmail.info and did a google search and found this thread as well as the other site listing the clapmail.info address as a scam.

It's a pretty poor attempt at scamming since the email address is dubios and the email is just very general and not specific. Not to mention "she" is willing to jump on a plane over here and meet someone she's never even met. I can pretty much say it's not even a she on the other end but some guy.

No doubt if I reply to this email "she" will then reply with some sob story about needing money to get over here and wanting my credit card details which is what the other clapmail.info address scams were about

Maybe this thread can stay open incase other people get the same email and start looking for information. Some people fall for scams pretty easy like that nigerian inheritance scam. I even got another picture of "her". She's too skinny for my tastes anyway, needs to eat more. I just binned the email.

Mac Sirloin 08-16-2007 06:12 PM

Very, good, we need more like you for our secret barinwash facility.

I mean staff (same thing, really)

Matriar 08-17-2007 10:37 AM

Ask her for a working-Visa or you're gonna get a lot of trouble when you let her work in a foreign country!!
Sorry, I had to say it again.

Man, I'm outta this thread now...

sharkbait 2000 08-20-2007 09:00 AM

I only joined because i search for this crazy woman who keeps emailing me with photos of her. If i could find a way to copy her pics i would. Anyhow i got the same emails as below and know she claims to be in St. Petersburg.

This is what she is saying now:

My honey ! it is me,can you believe I am in St. Petersburg. I can't believe ,it
was wonderful flight and they gave red vine in plane, wow,I have never tried
such tasty one!!!!!
I went the bus up to the Subway from the airport .In Subway long went, it
was so is delightful
I was in travel agency today, but my documents are not ready yet, it will be
ready tomorrow.
I will go to travel agency again to get all info about my trip. And of course,
when I will get it - I will send it to you!
It is such great city and it takes a few hours to travel from one end to other.
I rented the flat for few days.
People said to me some nice places in St. Petersburg while he was
Such a great city it is. I have no words to explain. you can't imagine how great
St. Petersburg is,to be fair I wouldn't like to
live here,a lot of cars, people , voice and pollution.Ugly traffic and people
with crazy eyes.
When I get off plane in airport St. Petersburg policeman asked about
passport and he looked at me like I am any enemy,
I think all people here are a little crazy at terrorism.Life here in St.
Petersburg is expensive. I was going through some shops today
and it is much more expensive than in our town. Food and all the general things.
It is the same country but different prices, what a great change.
I think people living in St. Petersburg are very cautious ,I think so. But I
think that I have done my choice and to be fair I don't want to
live here,it is not the city of my dreams. you know I am not coward I am not
afraid I know it is my chance to meet
kind man .I do hope I am right. and I think you are too kind to make any bad
things I feel it.
Well,I will close this letter ,please write as soon as possible!see
you soon! KISS . Great kiss from St. Petersburg!!!!!!!!!! Evgeniya

I have even called her on the scam and she still sends me them.

Laser 08-20-2007 09:20 AM
