Stranger's Wrath Soundtrack Announced

Michael Bross recently revealed in an email that a Stranger's Wrath soundtrack is currently in preparation. I'm very excited, and I thought you'd all like to know. :D

:

Like I mentioned, the soundtrack will be released in two volumes and we hope to officially announce more details soon. We're still determining release date, but I assume it'll be available within the next 2-3 months for Volume 1. The current thought is that Volume 2 would come out approx. 6 months after that. Each volume will have at least 25 tracks each.
I was hoping to hear about a Munch's Oddysee soundtrack, but they might not do one, understandably:

:

It's hard to tell if the Munch soundtrack will ever be released. It's a bit complicated to explain the details, but there was a special process to put that music together so that it worked interactively in the game on the Xbox. It was created in layers, so it would take a fair amount of effort and time to prepare it for a soundtrack release.
He also provided me with a very interesting interview he did for a Russian game music site called Game OST (This is the English version):

I think one of the mods moved the posts from your thread into this one, seeing as it was created first. ;)

Matriar 06-23-2007 08:58 PM

Hmm... :dodgy:

This doesn't make sense because I actually made this thread first, didn't I?... oh, well.

Creepy Doc 06-23-2007 09:48 PM

Whoo-hoo that's great! :D

Mac Sirloin 06-23-2007 10:52 PM

Righteous, I thought that those few extra tracks on his site were all that was to be added, but lo and behold, I am wrong.
Definitely Buying it, expect some of these to appear in COZ.

Jordan 06-24-2007 12:40 AM

Judith, take a look at Ajielyn's post time, and look at yours, who created it first? I loved the extra tracks though. I even burnt them all to a CD. :)

Matriar 06-24-2007 09:44 AM

Damn, am I an idiot. You're right, I forgot to take a look at the date... sorry.

Read the first post ;)

Volume 1 will "only" have over 25 tracks.

Plus the 5 hours of Music will not be release everything is not intrestig enought to be released on an OST.

:

G-OST: Before composing a musical score for Munch's Oddysee, have you listened to Ellen Meijers music? How can you describe an adaptation to this mysterious and weird universe of Oddworld?

Michael: I didn't really listen to the music from any of the earlier Oddworld games. In general, the music in previous games did not influence me that much. The big influence really was spending time with the director, Lorne Lanning, to understand what he wanted from the music. Lorne can be very demanding and has high expectations when it comes to quality work, but it's also rewarding to work with him for that reason. He pushed for all these sometimes strange but usually relevant ideas that required much extra effort from me, but I enjoyed that challenge.

G-OST: Do you think you managed to catch the soul and atmosphere of the series?

Michael: Yes, but I think that I captured it much better on Stranger's Wrath than Munch's Oddysee. The issue with Munch is that I had a very small amount of time to compose the music and the technical capabilities of the game were limiting from an audio standpoint, so I didn't really get the chance to do everything I wanted to do.

G-OST: How many minutes of music you wrote for Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath?

Michael: I estimate I wrote about 5 hours of music for Stranger's Wrath. Most games don't have that much music. I still wished that I could have written more for it.

G-OST: Will the whole material be included on the disc?

Michael: All the important tracks will be on the soundtrack album and there will be over 50 tracks released. That's a lot of music. Like any movie or game, though, not all music is suited to be on a soundtrack album. As an example, some of the music that I created for certain cinematic was purely background and is not that exciting to listen to when heard without the visuals.

G-OST: Oddworld Inhabitants are now become movie makers. Do you have any plans in assisting them?

Michael: I got together with Lorne Lanning (Oddworld's creator) a few weeks ago, and he and I keep in touch on a consistent basis. I consider him to be like a big brother and a friend. At this point, my focus is on my current projects, but I believe that in the future my path will cross with Lorne's again.

Yes, sorry. I didn't know anything about Ajiellyn's thread when I started mine. ;)

By the way, Michael Bross said something about the "first volume". Maybe there are 25 soundtracks on this one, and 25 soundtracks on the second volume, maybe...

Kamille 06-26-2007 05:15 PM

I hate to say it but I don't really remember the music from the game haven't played it in a while, but this is fun because it's oddworld news

I think, it should work for the other countries and their values too. Try it. :)

Wil 07-11-2007 02:11 AM

You use PayPal to pay. PayPal converts your currencies for you.

PayPal is your pal.

Jordan 07-11-2007 04:28 AM

Really? Wow, I think I'll buy this, thanks Max and Judith! :)

Matriar 07-11-2007 10:35 AM

Jordan 07-11-2007 01:22 PM

Nah, but my grandma has one, and I always use it for eBay and stuff.
But I can't see my mum letting me buy it, I won't be able to convince her it'll change currency on Paypal. Oh well...

Stranger's Wrath Soundtrack

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath soundtrack--Available July 30, 2007

"Oddworld Stranger's Wrath Soundtrack" To Be Released

"A fantastic soundtrack...!"
Gaming Age

New York, July 9th, 2007— Oddworld Inhabitants and composer Michael Bross are pleased to announce the upcoming soundtrack release of the music from "Oddworld Stranger's Wrath", the critically acclaimed game published by EA in 2005.

With Nettwerk Music Group (Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne, Barenaked Ladies, Electronic Arts) handling digital distribution, the soundtrack will contain over 50 tracks across two separate volumes. Volume 1's release date is July 30, 2007 while Volume 2 will be released at a future date (to be announced).

Lorne Lanning, Oddworld's co-founder, had this to say about the soundtrack, "It was inevitable that Michael's amazing musical and sound design contribution to our series would one day find its way to fans as an experience unto itself. Well, finally, here it is! I've had the pleasure of listening to this music on my iPod, by the pool, and in my car for years. Finally, now the fans can too."

Taking time specifically for the release, Bross remixed some of the tracks to enhance clarity and depth. It was then mastered at Stephen Marsh Mastering (Los Lobos, Fiona Apple, Incubus) in Hollywood, CA by Stephanie Villa.

"The game was an important project to me, and I'm delighted to finally see the music released in soundtrack form," Bross states.

The soundtrack will be available through digital stores such as iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic and Napster. The CD version will be available from the composer's site at www.bross.com and also Amazon.
