Abe's Oddysee 2!?
Is there any other old version of Abe's Oddysee? For example one in which appear Paramites instead of Scrabs in Stockyards Escape???
|
LOL I dont think so :D
But it would be great! |

Abe 2
Yeah... too bad...
But do you know if there's any level editor?? |
No, there isn't :(
|
There is a Save Editor, however. But unfortunately, it's for Exoddus. Oh well, exoddus is still great!
|
Actually, I saw MANY screenshots of AO and AE that doesn't fit my version.
Also, the demo doesn't have the same level exactly if you notice. I believe there is an older version, but it was kept inside of OI and the testers. Edit: Here are some weird stuff I found at the Oddworld Graphics Gallery, there are many more level changes and version changes. Abe's Oddysee - Weird screenshots: Where's the scrab? Where's abe? Where are the lasers? White shiney timed mines? Small Slogs in Oddysee? What happened to those mines?! How did Abe got there? Abe's Oddysee - Old version: Elum trap instead of bees Other "dot" for the text LCD numbers too light Where's that scrab? The backround looks lighter and foggier Abe's Exoddus - Weird screenshots: A shot from the good ending. Buy there are 4 fingers like in AO's older version! It's another level, but how did Dripik got there without opening the path to the teleporter? Abe's Exoddus - Old version: A hole in feeco? The sign is Yellow and happy instead of green and crazy Greeters? Over there? Extra slig and extra bomb If someone know who uploaded those screenshots maybe he can solve that Oddworld versions mystery! |
Very interesting screenshots, some things that were cut from the final version look really nice, like the foggier Stockyards.
But the mines you're talking about are from the PC version aren't they? The PS version has black. |
Just looks like the background without any of the characters on it. Doesn’t take long to Photoshop one of those yourself, and OWI will of course have a full collection of the originals.
What’s wrong with that? There are order bombs there in the final game as well. These ones are just higher resolution, because it’s one of those HR screenshots OWI have come up with. There are several. The same applies to this one: I object to these kinds of screenshots of unfinished versions of games being referred to as ‘mysteries’, but it seems to be the norm. Unless they have an unfamiliar location or gameplay object (e.g. the Elum trap), it’s safe to say that changes are done because they make the gameplay work better, or the visuals look a little nicer. |
-Those weird white land mines aren't the same as the white land mines from the final PC version.
Also, I once had another version of AO that had black mines (on the PC), another "Abe's Oddysee" splash screen and the new friendlier Mudokon Pops. -The timed bombs are originally black, not white. But I wonder how did screenshots (and so many of them) of an unfinished version of the game got to this website while it's not an official one? |
Damn this thread title got me so excited :(
|
I though abes exodous was abe 2...ah well, those screen shots were wack...:p
|
Yup.... Right....
Oh and LiJi, where did you got that old version of Abe's Oddysee? Are you sure it isn't the same one as the new one? |
OK. So there are two possible explanation of the wierd pictures ( I believe the first one sounds plausible ):
- The OWI changed the game just before the release and sent the pictures of the should-have-been-game; - Or they have just taken photos of the original game and ... edited the photos!!!!! What do you think? |
I think I've found something about the "old" game. Check this out:
|
No, dragon1mst, that’s a site where people can download commercial games for free. It’s piracy, and we can’t let you link to it on Oddworld Forums. It has nothing to do with any older version of the games. ‘Abandonware’ refers to software that is so old that the original publishers don’t any longer hold legal rights to its publication. It is used on this site incorrectly to trick people into thinking their downloading games is legal.
Also, dragon1mst, please don’t post multiple times in a row. It’s not considered polite, and will annoy a lot of people. If you have anything extra to say having just posted in a thread, you can use the EDIT button to change your post. :) :
|
Dragon1mst, you got it wrong. :P
There are (at least) 3 versions of AO for PC: -The one that wasn't release. (Screenshots) -First release (What I have now) -Second release (Mostly graphical changes such as the mudokon pop package, 3 fingered muds, black bombs on PC) At the beginning I had the Second Release, that came with a pack of games with my old old PC. Then I lost it and got the First Release. I hope this explains it. |
I've heard of that second release, but I never got my hands on it...
Plus I don't think all those weird screens found on oddworld.com are another version of the game, it could be work in progress or simply some quick arrangements to make some screenshots. |
I want to know more about the elum trap and the design decisions that it were involved with.
|
I agree with Xav; I'd say that OWI put them on the website because they thought we might find them interesting.
|
We certinly did find them interesting.
|
SO? Are we gonna post to OWI site this kind of stuff?
|
It has been like that for years...
I don't think that they will change it now, they are quite busy with other stuff and I doubt they will change it because a handfull of people noticed some mistakes. The only thing they would do, if they do something, is to simply remove them. |
I think OWI should leave the site as it is. It's an ancient relic now! :D
|
I think they should release the 2 first games as freewares now, they're no longer available to buy so they can't lose money if they do. Then I'll finally put my hands back on my sweet second release! :P

They are still being made, or at least I presume so judging by all the new, still wrapped up ones on eBay. They're only about a tenner.
|

|
Mmm... I hate buying stuff from eBay and such.
I buy stuff from the internet only when it's a product that is sold only on the internet. (as new) |
Yes...

|
I thought so too because on the back of the psx version case there are paramites in those ditches :|
|
:
|
About the paramites in the stockyards... wouldn't this seem right if there was only one? Why have a slave next to a scrab with is going to kill your slave? One paramite might not kill the slave..
|
If they were having Paramites in there, either the slave wouldn't be there, or there'd be two Paramites. No reason not to. This thread doesn't really need posting in any more.

I think it's because the Scrab isn't activated until Abe's on the screen. :P
|
You guys do know you can save that mudokon, right?
|
...lawl... i r no can sabe dat mudkin
|
Are you guys talking about the one towards the beginning of the Stockyard escape?
