What religion are you?

Since it's been a while, and we have lots of new members, just poppin this one out again.

Bullet Magnet 04-29-2007 05:37 PM

Lapsed? The hell is that supposed to mean?

Patrick Vykkers 04-29-2007 05:54 PM

A nice term for "I claim to be religious but really have about as much faith as John Shelby Spong.". Not to sound rude or mean or anything.

Bullet Magnet 04-29-2007 05:58 PM

I shee...

If they then claim to be religious, even if they are not, I doubt that option will therefore be selected as such. Hmm.

I selected non-religious. Personally I don't care if I'm called that or atheist or agnostic or whatever, despite the differences between them. I opted out of religion and faith.

Patrick Vykkers 04-29-2007 06:09 PM

Some people self identify as lapsed, however.

Bullet Magnet 04-29-2007 06:15 PM

That's... odd.

mitsur 04-29-2007 06:39 PM

Non-religious. I'm not sure why I don't have one. I mean, sure I beleive in God, but it dosen't get much more than that.

Meh. I'll covert on my deathbed, I supposed. Just to cover my bases. Or if the minister just won't leave me alone.

SeaRex 04-29-2007 06:40 PM

I'm sure those Sufi Muslim votes will come rolling in any minute now.

Fantastic! I LOLed.

snuzi 04-29-2007 07:13 PM

Nonreligious. I just can't be bothered with religion in general.

ziggy 04-29-2007 08:04 PM

Nobody at Oddworld forums believes! :( .....but ya I'm not religious either. My parents didn't put me in that envronment, they just think the church is a scam. And it's nice not having to go to church. I know there are a lot of religous people and that's fine. I do believe that there is some kind of God, but i think a lot of things about religion are weird. Just something to think about I heard on tv: Would you believe the stories of the bible/other religous book if they were just told by someone today?

Abeguy 04-29-2007 08:11 PM

Messianic Jew FTW!!!

which, isn't really an option, so I put liberal Jew...which doesn't make much sense...wait...Nate's one I guess.

Patrick Vykkers 04-29-2007 08:28 PM

Messianic Jew= Christian- Other

Jordan 04-29-2007 10:18 PM

I don't have a religion. It's too much work for me, believing and all that.

WaterMelody 04-29-2007 10:23 PM

no religion for me either, but the youth group i'm in is slowly trying to convert me, and failing misrably.

Leto 04-29-2007 10:35 PM

Nonreligious. Wish I did believe in a god though, would make life quite a bit easier.

Your youth group is trying to change you? Man, I hate it when they do that... My old school was bad for doing it, they made us sing hymes about god.

looney-bin 04-29-2007 10:46 PM

Oh Heaven forbid you ever sing a song about God! Have mercy ...

I'm Church of England (Protestant), but I'm not that religious. Oh and here's a little Q&A about Christianity I found by someone I know from elsewhere: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/jtr.htm

Salamander 04-30-2007 12:11 AM

I guess I am Christian protestant. But I've never read the entire bible (I've only finished about one book, but started a few others) and I'm a bit of a skeptic, but I think I have enough faith not to be classed as lapsed.

Xavier 04-30-2007 01:14 AM

where is Satanism? :p

anyway I voted for Other

moxco 04-30-2007 01:17 AM

Catholic. Least I'm trying to be, but I'll have to admit I'm more of a lapsed.

Mutual Friend 04-30-2007 01:21 AM

There's Shite Muslims?

Well, how frank and honest of them.

More like "I used to be religious but I'm not any more"

I suppose I classify myself as a non-orthodox, orthodox Jew. I don't practise the religion all that much (okay, you can call me lapsed if you want) but when I do it's always the orthodox stream.

Havoc 04-30-2007 02:59 AM

I chose the path of the Lord a loooong time ago. He opened my eyes to the wonders of this world and let me enjoy life without sin so I can get my spot into heaven when I die. I thank Jesus every day for taking my sins and pray to him every morning and every night for he is the holy light of the heavens.
I voted Catholic and for all you non religious sinners I must urge you to do the same lest you be cast to hell on the day you leave this world for all eternity! Let Jesus save you from Satan! Let Jesus take your sins for you! Jesus has died once before for you and he can do it again! Heil Jesus!

Hm... Think I killed it with that last one... Ah well.

If you call me a christian one more time, Patrick, I'll bust a cap...

People are always saying the messianic Jews are just like christians. But show me a christian church that celebrates Hannukah, Pesach, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, etc, and I'll think about it.

And besides...Christian kids aren't Bar Mitzvah

looney-bin 04-30-2007 04:57 AM

What's so great about Satanism anyway? I'd rather be in Heaven drinking smoothies than being in Hell getting assraped by the red guy and his minions.

Nemo 04-30-2007 05:55 AM

I'm a big mix of ideas.
Lots of athiest+agnostic ideas, as well as some buddhistic ideas.
That, and some ideas of my own thrown in.

As well as some from the scene in the Matrix Reloaded where Smith tells Neo about purpose.

"Satanism" is a misnomer. Satanists don't actually worship Satan; they just reject the Christian church.

...

Liberal Jewish? Is there such a thing as a non-liberal jew? I mean, they do control the media with their slanderous lies and everything. :p

Stop making the same thread. I don't care which non existent deity some people on this forum worship, if they don't worship me, they're dirty whores and don't deserve to live.

Munch's Master 04-30-2007 11:18 AM

I'm kind of a muddle. I used to be athiest, but recently kind of found religion. I believe in God, but don't believe he made Earth in 6 days. I believe the Big Bang theory, in that a massive explosion made the universe, but as to why, well, that's where God comes in- to fill the blanks, since I have no other possible idea.
As for Heaven or Hell, I don't know. I want there to be an afterlife, I really do. And certain experiences in my life have made me believe there could be such a thing as a soul. Maybe it's just the impossibility to comprehend an ultimate, black end, while alive.
I'm totally non-practicing though. Never go to Church, have only ever been for my cousins' Baptism and my grandfather's funeral. Never been Chjristened/Baptised, and unlesss I decided to suddenly become a full-fledged practicing Christian (which is unlikely) I never will.

You could (and soem probably will) say I'm hedging my bets, but truth is i hoenstly don't know. The way I see it, if the Universe had a beginning, then
a) what was before it
b) why did it begin
And the only thing I can think of that could explain this that doesnt involve me going on a lengthy tangent about astrophysics and Steven Hawking is the theory of a God.

Patrick Vykkers 04-30-2007 12:44 PM

I wasn't aware Satanism was a common religion. Narcisstic weirdoes. And Hobo, trolls make baby FSM cry.

LOL. I think you've got me confused with "Ilovehammy!". I'm not an evangelical Catholic.

Havoc 04-30-2007 02:47 PM

Don't we feel like the center of the f*cking universe? I wasn't talking to you specifically smartypants...

Havoc

Chubfish 04-30-2007 02:49 PM

I'm not religious in anyway...guess i'm non-religious then.

Arxryl 04-30-2007 04:27 PM

I am Christian... yeah... I'm sure you all knew that, but... what the hey. Y'know? That's like asking Havoc if he likes tigers, or Jordan if he has something for Laura Croft... ;)

M'yeh... I've become more religious recently, but don't think I'm going to chase you down with a cross and force you to... I dunno, eat... somehting... I make it up as I go...

Patrick Vykkers 04-30-2007 04:29 PM

So how exactly is a religion based around viewing of the self as the most important thing and striving for such hedonism as "good" NOT narcissistic?

Bullet Magnet 04-30-2007 04:52 PM

It's happening again. Curse these threads!
