Cringing at your past

Recently, I became fascinated with checking out OWF's old topics. I've been looking through them for awhile now, and I'm quite astonished at how we all used to act. Well, at least, how I used to act.

On a whim, I seachd my own name, and saw quite a number of topics I made long ago.

Let's just say I'd beat my past self senseless for his stupidity, even though he was around 8 when he joined.

Anyways, I'd like to invite old members to search their own name, and go back to near their beginnings, and bring back a 'gem'. Hopefully, we won't all be to traumatized/embarrased.

Well, here's mine, from quite possibly the most important moment in OWF history, which was around my first post. My welcome thread has been lost to time, unfourtunately.

:

We really nedd help!We are stuck in annex number four.We try to go back from the slog kennels but a slig is waiting for us when we re-enter the last level. Nothing seems to work to get by him. Any suggestions?

Aaahhh, to be young again. To heedlessly throw away the English language, without even thinking about it.

Jordan 01-25-2007 11:18 PM

Am I counted as an old member? :p I have been here a year! ;)
Okay, here's one of my n00bish situations, it was the first thread I ever made, I mean, look at my grammar!

snuzi 01-25-2007 11:23 PM

Unfortunately, I ahve not been here long enough to be able to look back and reminisce of the way things used to be. Although, if I had been here as long as you, mitsur, I probably would have posted some things that would have given me the douche chills :p.

Strike Witch 01-26-2007 01:41 AM

Jesus. I was a friggin' moron.

Havoc 01-26-2007 06:31 AM

It's to bad I can't find my very very very first topic, as it apparently no longer exists. But I'm sure it would have been funny. The last topic I can find of myself is dated back in 2004 I think. And even those are... pretty funny :p.

Arxryl 01-26-2007 06:41 AM

Um, well, I'm not exactly one of the older posters here, but what the heck, I'll see what I looked like way back in October.

EDIT:
:

Hello! I am Arxryl and I just signed up yesterday! I enjoy all of the oddworld games, and many other things as vwell! I enjoy reading, typing, and drawing a lot and sword fighting is right up there too! I am new here, but not to the buisness of forums, and I know the rules. I hope to have a fun experience here!
^^first post^^
How excited I was... and how many exclamation points I used...

dripik 01-26-2007 07:28 AM

The earliest posts of mine are found in Fan Corner, from 2005. Not much difference from my current posting style.

And here's my first topic in General Discussion. These posts are more newcomer-ish.

Mutual Friend 01-26-2007 01:20 PM

Cringing at your past? I cringe at what I post now.

I think I've remained very consistent throughout my stay.

Cullen Heath 01-26-2007 02:31 PM

I also think it's funny how used said this:
:

()
I AM USED
Lower your arguments and perpare to be pwned.

And then Xavier said this:
:

()
used:) you have won.
I close this thread and you both have won a WARNING

No offense, used:p

Bullet Magnet 01-26-2007 06:41 PM

The first thing I ever posted was my epic poem, Ode to an Odd Quest, and perhaps one of the better entries into the forum. I had no welcome thread, this being the first forum I ever joined, I was under the deluded impression that other people started threads to welcome you. I soon realised what I'd done, but I felt it were too late to do anything about it.

Then I started this thread in the GD, later moved to the fan corner, where people posted their made-up creatures.

But the most embarrassing early poss I made are probably here, Abe01's thread about vegetarianism. I feature some rather choice posts on page 2 and 3.

There are some other threads from last spring such as How close is Oddworld to it's sun? and They should have Meeches in the game. Long posts were a staple of mine, in which I explained various phenomena in scientific detail, provoking replies of awe, confusion, in the case of used:), a hostile PM.

Mutual Friend 01-26-2007 06:48 PM

I've just looked back on my very first post:

:

()
As much as I loathe musicals (such a lazy way to convey story and emotion), why are you lot ripping on Cats?! I played Mr. Mistoffolees a fair while back; I rolled some dice, walked a tightrope and made a magical exchange of one ordinary, unimportant and disliked cat with the big leader-cat. It involved a see-through bed sheet and the longest drum roll you'd ever hear... or want to hear.

So, all in all, a tremendous success - my mum told me so.

That makes me cringe. Though I was very good in an otherwise mediocre production.

skillya_glowi 01-26-2007 07:26 PM

Do I count as an old member? :p
Old or not though, it nearly makes me want to retch looking through my early topics...God was I a dumbarse....

Take the hamburger topic for example...

Bullet Magnet 01-26-2007 08:44 PM

There aren't that many active old members left. If you joined before 2007, you're in.

moxco 01-26-2007 09:07 PM

All though I am new I was looking at my first thread that I made, just to try and get a sig. [It was just 2 weeks ago I was a moron.]

Hobo 01-28-2007 05:41 AM

My old posts were of biblical proportions.

My old posts were of biblical proportions.

Of that, I have no doubt.

*falls before Hobo*

All hail the great cheesy Amazonian death-monkey!

Facsimile 01-29-2007 01:56 AM

The oldest post of mine I can see is this:

:

"Partay" I believe was spelt intentionally I believe because that's how you can pronounce the word. "Partey" was just Oddish's intellect.

Hmm, the only thing I would change now is add a few comma's. A nice little hassle at Oddish there, without being my typical tactless self. I'm actually impressed.

I wish I could see my first posts, I know that I've always used as correct as I can English and punctuation. I think the only difference would be that I used to post about Oddworld.

:

On topic: Whoever I said was incredibly rude before, could they please get back to me on their defense?

AHAHA! Look at that craving for an argument!

Hmm... I was a lot funnier back then...

Alcar 01-29-2007 02:36 AM

Absolute spamming troll when I when joined. But I was young, and I've had over 5 years to amass a great difference in my posting styles.

I believe Cullen has in his signature one of my more intellectual quotes from years back.

Wow hold it there big boy. Praise EA in my presence one more time and I shall burn you alive!
Ah good times...

It's realy a shame I can't find my posts from the very beginning back :(.

Nate 01-29-2007 05:05 AM

I feel no need to cringe. But then, I joined OWF older than most experienced members are today. What I find more interesting is how similar my posts are.

My fifth ever post, on 12-04-2002 (my second day here):
:

()
Or Abe could just murder Sam and then raise one of her offspring as a new queen. The new Queen would then be a puppet ruler, with Abe holding the strings. Thus, our hero would gain absolute power.. MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

OR he could try a more moral way...

And a month ago:
:

()
I'd say he'd work out how to breed a new queen then kill Sam so the Vykkers no longer have her. That way he doesn't need to put up with her pathetic whining and can mould the new queen to be his powerful puppet!!

EDIT: My favourite thread ever.

And a wonderful theory on when the quintology would be completed:
:

()
My theory is 2 years between each "Oddysee", with an "Exoddus" in the gap.

thus, given that MO came out in 2001, the last oddysee would come out in 2007 (with an exoddus the year later).

This is supposing that they don't have any huge delays like the ones caused by changing to 3d and changing to Xbox

Al the Vykker 01-29-2007 12:50 PM

I dwelled on this forum for summer 2001 and then joined in October. However, one of my first posts was in December of 2001 so here it is:

:

()
HI everyone! My email was down for the past two months due to circuit problems. All is fixed and all is well. But just to make sure, your replies to this message would be greatly appreciated. And I'm glad to be part of the team!!!!!! - AL The Vykker

- If we didn't test it on fuzzeles we'd be testing it on you.

Not really that bad, but still not very enlightening. =P

Abraham Lure 01-29-2007 01:14 PM

I cringe at what I post now. I cringe at what I posted in the past. But luckily, I was pointed in the right direction early. But I still feel a bit embarassed at my first post.

Hobo 01-30-2007 09:55 AM

Hmm... I was a lot funnier back then...

Yeah i feel that i was funnier in the days of old. Maybe we're just becoming cynical at our old ages.

Rex Tirano 01-30-2007 12:37 PM

I used to be a dick. :p

Still am, but I've got more power! Muahahahahaha!

Facsimile 01-30-2007 07:19 PM

Oh you can go back further in history than the search function can. Annoying...

Anyway, my first thread: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=6954
Ugh. I said "Ok". Still, check that punctuation!

Alcar...

:p
I love that one. I know that the thread had also some really other good ones from you and Xav, because I wasn't exactly sure which to use in my Signature.
You'd have to find it, though, cause I can't remember what the thread was called.

Bullet Magnet 01-30-2007 08:13 PM

Would you go to Oddworld if you had a chance?

Easy. That little arrow on the quote is a link.

My very first post. Horrible!

Godlesswanderer 02-01-2007 12:43 PM

I can't find my first post. This is the earliest one I could find.

http://oddworldforums.net/showthread...531#post222531

I've stayed more or less the same. Friendly with random outbursts small of crazy and angry.
Except now I've been around for longer and feel like I have a little more power :p.

Edit:

Nevermind. Here's my first post.

skillya_glowi 02-01-2007 05:20 PM

My first post. Get this:

Jordan 02-02-2007 08:22 AM

I remember looking at that post, Skillya! Does your mum let you play Oddworld in the house now, or is it still the same?

skillya_glowi 02-02-2007 04:39 PM

I don't think she cares anymore. Maybe she realized that her efforts to un-obsess me with Oddworld were futile.

mitsur 02-02-2007 05:52 PM

Well,I never play any Oddworld games anymore. Usually, when I want to play something, it's either Dead Rising, or FF-X. I have no idea why I like to play that game.

Goddamn whiny little bitch Tidus...

And if this post is totally random, instead of fitting in with the above two posts, I blame AIDs. I don't now why I blame that, either. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

munchman 02-04-2007 06:31 AM

Ahhh the past, I was a moron back then. Always talking about topics that do not go with the first post and pissing people off. Although I was a moron I have enjoyed all the time I have spent on this forum.
Anyway, anyone here like cheese?

used:) 02-04-2007 07:58 AM

After looking through some of my early posts, I can see how n00bish I was (and still am to an extent) XD. I really must've had no life in the real world...Oh well. Getting joy out of little things was never bad.
