Oddworld AO and AE style Ideas
 
What would be your ideas for things or features that could/should have been included in the AO and AE style Oddworld games?

For Example, I think it would have made the game better if there were Breakable Slam Doors,Cameras (like the one from AO Intro Video) that could see you if they were facing the right way (would have some sort of indication of where it can and can't see you such as, A Red Beam coming from the lense) and set off an alarm.

The ability to possess Paramites and Scrabs in AO, Paramites in the Stockyards, Paramites in the actual Paramonian forest, and Scrabs in the actual Scrabanian Desert.
Being able to possess fleeches in AE, and being able to shoot em! -_-

I got a picture of a slig from the Oddworld Inhabitance Website,cut it out on paint then Recoloured it on PSP (Paint Shop Pro)

You really think it looks that good? :)

I liked those Vykker sprites... btw, can't you replace those drawn bombs, lightning, etc. with sprites copied from AO/AE? Btw, when I go to the link in your sig it gives me database error =/

Ye I know.. I messed up MySQL wile trying to get Oddworld: Shooter working onec.. Il fix it when i have the time.

I'd have liked to have infinite grenades in all areas of the game of AO. I'd like blowing up Scrabs and all, but I'm not allowed.
Posession of Slogs, and a more complicated control as a result.
More crawling Sligs areas. There was only two, including the Dripik final area.
More Sligs controlling Slogs areas.
Elum in AE. May not have been possible, but we have PS2 now.
Meeches, since they presumably DO exist in small and isolated herds, plus some Mudokons presumably would have worshipped them.
Beating/shooting Fleeches with Sligs, Scrabs/Slogs/Paramites/Sligs=more possible combinations than were possible in the final game. (Scrab charges Greeter and kicks it flying, resulting in Greeter blowing up, or paramites attacking a Slogs, etc.)

I wish you could see some Paramite vs Scrab action... But they say if that DID happen (like glitch or something) the game would freeze. lol...

I saw a picture of a Paramite in Stockyards... Where a Scrab was suppose to be, I think it was PS though... Either way, I wish they were in there too.

Oh no... Not the whole Paramite Stockyards thing again... No one, I mean no one start asking about Paramites in the Stockyards! :fuzemb:
Paramite vs Scrab would be very freaky, I don't think they should meet at all, it's like the Mudanchee and Mudomo tribe joining into one, weird...

lol if there were to be a scrab and a paramite together it would probebly do nothing... since that the game is not programed to do so... so basicly the paramite would not find the scrab as any threat and nether would the scrab find the paramamite as one...

That picture of the Paramite in Stockyards is not in the PS version.. Since I own AE and AO for both PC and PS... The reason I think its there beacuse some of those screenshots were old Ideas for the game.. It would have been much better and more realistic to the story to have Paramites AND Scrabs in the Stockyards..

I always wanted to shoot scrabs and paramites in AO. I don't know why, I guess it would just be kinda cool, since it's one of the many things you can't do in that game.

Sometimes I wish Abe was armed... I hate being cornered by a Scrab... It kinda makes me jump sometimes. :)

You have to kind of think about the stock yards too. I am sure there are multiple stock yards, that one was particularly for Scrabs probrably.

I think the reason for the scrabs being in the stockyards is beacuse it makes the strategy harder... you would have to have 2 paramites to make up for 1 scrab..

Something I'd've liked to see is an alternate ending. I mean, there is a good ending, and there is a bad ending, but what about a perfect ending, or a completely opposite movie. That would've been interesting.

Because Scrabs attack on sight, where as Paramites will only attack if you corner them... and only if they are in packs.

Hey come on, people. Seriously. The entire uniqueness of the game is mostly in the fact that Abe is not armed, has nothing but his loincloth and chanting, and somehow has to make it through all of the shit OWI's pitted him against. If he were armed, gameplay wouldn't be as interesting. Same goes for possessing Paramites and Scrabs.

I agree though, it would have been very nice to see 4 separate ending movies...

And there are Paramites in cages you can't see...I said this in the Q&A thread one time, but if you listen very closely to the sounds in the Stockyards/Free-Fire Zone, not only will you hear Scrabs, but you will hear those Paramite-clickey sounds.

I think I would like AE to have that same dark feeling that AO had. I mean, AE was challenging to some point, (espically without the QuikSave), but their wasn't that silent, there's-something-about-to-crawl-behind-your-back-and-kill-you feeling like in AO.

I know what you mean... but it wasn't the gameplay that did that for me, it was the art, soundscape, and environment. And the story. I loved the humour, and the brightness of the game is fondly recalled, but I do want a return to the darkness of AO. Not the darkness of Fangus, Stranger or Siege. I want the spiritual "mudokon past" of AO. Necrum came close to that.

Maybe it was also a change in the technology, the replacement of the 3D render tool for the screens with the prop house, but the graininess of AO really gave it something.

That's exactly what I drone on about when explaining the difference between Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus to recent converts. But I really can't put it into words. AE didn't have the same Oddworld feeling that AO did. I'm not saying it's a bad game --- I agree that AE was absolutely brilliant, but this dark, spiritual, forbidding feeling that hung about the environments --- in AE that was completely lacking imo.

Highly unlikely because riding a scrab will make you dead. Paramites I'm not sure, but if it is made, don't ride up to another, or you will be dead.

i love the feeling i get when playing AO. its mostly the sound effects and background music that made the game so dark feeling. thats something that let me down about MO.. its just too.. i dont know.. 3D action/adventure, rather than strategy and unlikely and difficult situations.

but what i have to keep in mind is that the Abe games follow the dark style, not the Munch games.

heres what i want:

once they finish the next chapter in the quintology, and have introduced a few more elements to the series (more enemies, etc), i want to see a game for the ps3 (maby 360, but i think ps3 would be better suited considering the control scheme) with the first two games completely unaltered. then as a bonus, there should be a side game with no story. just a crap load of extra levels and challenges. sort of a test of skill thing if you know what i mean.

i want to see different variations of the temples and breeding grounds, the necrum vaults, more fleech levels, something similar to the slig barracks, maby something with meeches, some levels with vykkers, more glukkon possessing and manipulating sligs, more flying sligs, lots of muds to save, and many, many more chases -- like toward the end of AO where you had to run through the slog kennels and such.

everything should be progressively harder, and at the very end should be the grand finale of finales. a timed run through a factory type of place in which you need to use all the skills youve learned throughout the game much like the very end of the Abe games, excpet of course -- harder.

all of this should be 2D using the same controls as either AE or AO, and with some new twists. about as many gameplay changes as there were going from AO to AE. i think this would be awesome, and it would definitly please all the fans who dont like the 3D style games. my favorite part about the old games is how challenging they were.. untill i beat them all over and over.. now its all too easy. but i keep playing the games again anyway.. what im talking about could be like a final 2D chapter strictly for fun.

I'd do the same. I would really hate it if an Oddworld game only came out for the PS3. That damn thing is too expensive.

well, thats a personal preference. i personally dislike the 360. ive never been an xbox fan. the things are made for shooters and sports titles. thats really it.. im an rpg nerd, so ill always have a playstation.

i think it belongs on the ps3 because of the controller, really. the Abe games played wonderfully on the ps1, and they just wouldnt be right with an xbox controller.

Well, I'd personally prefer to play the Oddworld titles on the PC. It'd be easier to maneuver each character, as the buttons are easier to access on a keyboard, in my opinion. Plus, it'd probably be more fun, as PC games allow you to screw around with the game more than on other systems. What with spawning random npc's, objects, and such.

Although, for now, I'm content with them being on the Xbox, and possible Xbox 360 in the future.

i like the games the way they are, and i dont want to see any one done a different way. what i mean by this is; i love MO. at first, the fact that an Abe game was 3D drove me nuts. i played it, and it was nothing like the Abe games. but i realized thats just it.. it isnt like the Abe games kuz its not an Abe game. its a Munch game. Munch games are 3D, and theyr for the xbox. now that ive played through the game and enjoyed it, i wouldnt have it any other way.

i love the Abe games on the ps1, and if they ever redo or rerelease the games, i want to see them done the same way. i havnt played the Abe games on PC before, but id imagine they would incorporate well. actually, this game im talking about would do great on the pc.. people could make custom maps and put em up for download on the internet.. damn, thatd be cool =3

Actually the FMVs aren't done with the A.L.I.V.E. engine, that's only the gameplay.
