Games you would like to see as a movie

I dunno if this topic has been done before, I think I vaguely remember something along these lines but whatever.

So, what game, any game, would you like to see turned into a movie or a series or whatever? Tell us what game, and explain why you would want it and possibly how it could be done. I'm curious to the answers!

My two games that I would sleep outside the theater for to see first would be Command & Conquer and Half Life.

Starting with C&C, many people might only know C&C as an RTS which is about war and cry out 'thats just another war story! BORING!'. However, the truth is very different. C&C does a great job at telling a story about world altering events. From stopping WW2 and starting the Great World War 2, to introducing an entirely fictional timeline that is so intense it managed to make some people doubt if this was based on actual events or not.
The countless bibical references that are in the story (yes my favorite game is based partialy on the bible, ha ha, have your laugh :p) such as Kane, Seth, Able, the land of Nod and the coming of a messiah. The allien substance Tiberium which is rappidly taking over the earth is also a great addition to the story line as it is used to often portrait human ignorance and stupidity troughout the story. Next to all that, the Tiberian Wars between the Global Defence Initiative and The Brotherhood of Nod is all just a small bonus.
C&C is a great game series which, after the story is completed in the form of games, should be redone on the big screen.

Half Life is mostly the same. A normal random person getting in an accident in a top secret lab and releasing utter hell over the entire planet. Goverment conspiracies, trips to other worlds, lots of firefights, supression, slavery and futuristic settings like City 17 are all a great mix to throw into a movie. Story's about mankind struggeling to survive have always facinated me deeply, which is why I find Half Life such a cool series with such a cool storyline. Even though the one man rambo army that Gordon Freeman is is kind of cliche for a movie, it could be turned into an awsome movie when done right.

Hobo 10-27-2006 04:22 AM

Tetris. BAM!

SeaRex 10-27-2006 04:22 AM

HL2.

Silent Hill (only not shitty).

Shadow of the Colossus... wouldn't make a very good movie, but it would make a great animated series.

Bullet Magnet 10-27-2006 04:24 AM

Yes, though personally I would be looking forward to Half-Life 2, as there would be that rare thing, a movie outdone by its own sequel.

I wonder how'd they deal with Gordan's speach impediment?

Havoc 10-27-2006 04:57 AM

First time we actualy see him he will probably have ducktape over his mouth and is afraid to pull it off :p.

Nate 10-27-2006 07:29 AM

Definately Grim Fandango as a mature CG film. It's got such a great plot and fantastic design. Also Full Throttle.

Tim Schafer FTW.

I'm sure there is a talented director out there that could pull it off.

I would personally love to see a movie where visuals and emotion were placed before dialogue. Not in the sense that they're more important (which would usually just yield shitty dialogue), but in the sense that sometimes pictures are better than words when expressing a mood.

OANST 10-27-2006 11:35 AM

Psychonauts- animated of course.
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus

Bullet Magnet 10-27-2006 03:18 PM

You know, I did quite enjoy Jak and Daxter, but-

Oh noes! Flames!

Arxryl 10-27-2006 07:02 PM

Actually Jak and Daxter was a great game.
I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but...
Kingdom Hearts. if they stuk with the original story and didn't try and make anything new. I think they could pull off a good animated series, or maybe a CG movie.

Also, I'd like to see Dark Cloud 2. I really enjoyed that game, and if they made a series, they could do well with it.
or maybe Star Fox. that'd make a watchable series.

Bullet Magnet 10-28-2006 03:34 AM

Heart of Darkness. And Dawn of War.

Nate 10-28-2006 06:20 AM

Heart of Darkness had good quality FMVs but an inane plot.

Boy's beloved pet dog disappears in a solar eclipse so he fires up his rocket ship to go save him and in the end it turns out it was all him playing in his treehouse? I could write better things on the crapper. In fact, I think I shall...

Havoc 10-28-2006 02:38 PM

I agree with Kingdom Hearts. Though it would prolly be a kids show of some kind, I do think it would do pretty good as an animated series.
But how does Star Fox make a good movie? The Star Fox games I played had little to no story at all. Let alone one that deserves to be shown on the big screen.

Arxryl 10-28-2006 02:43 PM

Well, not a movie. an animated series. they could make a story line for it I'm sure. Like maybe the Apparoids invasion, or Star Fox command. It could be like an anime-drama.

Patrick Vykkers 11-01-2006 04:11 PM

Oddworld, of course.
Final Fantasy VII (Yes, I know about Advent Children)
Knights of the Old Republic
Second Psychonauts
Freelancer
EDIT: I meant I would second OANST's suggestion

Nate 11-01-2006 05:35 PM

Second Psychonauts?

They're not making a sequel (unfortuneately).

Mojo 11-02-2006 11:19 AM

What about the upcoming game Bioshock?

Or Gears of War?

OANST 11-02-2006 11:39 AM

What about them?

Mojo 11-03-2006 09:01 AM

You know, stuff.

OANST 11-03-2006 10:16 AM

Oh, yeah. I agree completely, then.

ANN NEELY 11-03-2006 02:51 PM

A Psychonauts movie would rule! Grim Fandango would make a nice one, too!

Fatal Frame would make an awesome movie, as long as they can design the ghosts well, and use Woman in Box.
How about....
Resident Evil 4
Destroy All Humans!
A separate movie for each Silent Hill game

OANST 11-03-2006 06:41 PM

Fuck the what. It's just a play on wtf.

Nate 11-03-2006 08:13 PM

Now now OANST. Play nice. Don't confuse the poor souls more than they already are.

ziggy 11-04-2006 06:47 PM

I would like a silent hill movie also, one that was actually good. Man, that movie sucked!

ANN NEELY 11-05-2006 10:35 AM

The Silent Hill movie wasn't that bad, it was mostly the bad acting that screwed it over. It was better than most games made into movies I'd ever seen, of course, that's probably my Pyramid Head fangirliness talking, though.

OANST 11-05-2006 12:14 PM

No, it was better than most games made into movies. And yeah, the bad acting is what killed it.

Shadow of the Colossus

I second that!
Anywho, I'd like to see Halo as a movie.
Sucks that they pulled it.

I wouldn't mind a Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory movie.
I would really like to see a World of Warcraft movie, but without all the "LOL NUB USES LVL 34 GEAR!" "SHUT UP I HAXED THIS OFF A LVL 60 NIGHTELF DRIUD"

Arxryl 11-06-2006 02:16 PM

You could make a lot of profit off of people buying large sets of plastic armor for the big premiere. too bad none of us work at wal-mart.

Hell yes! I loved Grim Fandango and a full length CG film would do it justice. As long as they had the same voice actors from the game.

I would still like to See Syphon Filter made into a movie either one or two preferably number one It hought it had a great plot.

The Silent Hill movie wasn't that bad, it was mostly the bad acting that screwed it over.

And the plot. And the writing. And the horrendous ending. And the fact that they tried to explain the Silent Hill's origins, effectively ruining the sense of mystery and allegorical significance of the town, which was the reason I liked the series in the first place.

Oh, and Pyramid Head had spooky jazz hands in that one scene. Ha-cha!

And the sad part is, Silent Hill is still twice as good as any video game movie ever.

Mojo 11-08-2006 04:57 AM

I hate it that they called PH "Red Pyramid" in the credits. His helmet wasn't even red! Nor was it squarish...

scrab queen 11-08-2006 02:19 PM

I certainly agree with the Halo thing. But the way it was going, I wouldn't want to see it anyway. They put an amature in charge of tons of money, and it was going to be a live action movie. H-E-double hockey sticks no.
I wonder why they didn't put the director of LOTR in charge? (haha! get it?) Yeah, and the people who did the design for the tech in that cloning planet from Star Wars. It looked like covenant interior design, except white. I'm rambling on aren't I? (I'm small and I have big eyes: please don't bash me... :fuzblink: )

---actually relevant to the thread---

Oddworld
Halo
Metroid
GTA (can someone say scarface remake?)

Arxryl 11-08-2006 03:13 PM

OOh! I can!

Scar face remake... I just said it!

Prince of Persia would make a good movie. (the first one.) or maybe an animated series.

Nate 11-08-2006 04:23 PM

I think perhaps you mean the fourth PoP (Sands of Time)?

I'm not exactly sure what being "squarish" would have to do with PH, but....
I didn't like his new name either. His helmet was a dark indigo, but I liked the new tetrahedron design! According to Christophe Gans, the change is because it was impossible for the actor to wear the helmet from the game. The basic design principle of the game's designers is still there; they wanted the helmet to appear painful to wear, though in the movie this is derived from how it looks rather than how Pyramid Head acts.

ToeJam & Earl, AO, I could say Crash but I think a movie would ruin it. Even if Vivendi have already ruined Naughty Dog's masterpiece.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Tetrahedron. It shouldn't be like that.

PH helmet has a rectangle shaped base, whith the sides ending up in a point. See? Squarish pyramid :P

Yes I mean sands of time. I keep on forgetting that there were more before it than just the SoT...and I've even got a shirt of one of them too...
