Leto 09-03-2006 11:21 PM

Thank god the bastards dead. He shant be missed. ^^

DarkHoodness 09-04-2006 12:15 AM

Yeah, Anna (Middlesboogie) told me about this this morning - Funny that out of all the animals to finally get him, it was a Stingray! :P They're my favourite fish and I didn't know they were that dangerous - Thought you had to be either really stupid or really careless to get killed by one. . .

Anyway, story here :P

She also posted this picture:

Poor guy, but still funny as hell. :P He had it comming. lol

Nate 09-04-2006 12:15 AM

The news here have been treading an interesting tight-rope between "How tragic" and "How ironic". Personally, I think it's the way he would have wanted to go. Either this or gobbled by a croc. At least this way he leaves something to bury.

One, Two, Middlesboogie 09-04-2006 12:50 AM

"They're my favourite fish and I didn't know they were that dangerous - Thought you had to be either really stupid or really careless to get killed by one. . ."

They're bloody poisonous, and he copped its barb straight through the heart.

"Thank god the bastards dead. He shant be missed."

Fair enough if you don't miss him, why is he a bastard? My brother can vouch that he is a very good bloke and dosn't deserve to cop a lot of the shit he's given.

"Well perhaps this is karma for all the crocodiles he humiliated"

I don't think so, see he actually preserved the reptiles. Not humiliated.

DarkHoodness 09-04-2006 01:16 AM

I knew that, I just didn't think they were dangerous to humans unless you were careless. :P They don't deliberately chase you and spear you with thier stings.

Fuzzle Guy 09-04-2006 01:24 AM

The moment my brother said his name I thought "He was killed doing what he loved".

Fez 09-04-2006 01:29 AM

The death of a legend :(

Fuzzle Guy 09-04-2006 01:30 AM

I second that.

And he WILL be missed.

STFU if you're going to talk that way about a legend who put his life in danger many times for our amusement.

Also, yes Steve will be missed, but knowing him he'd probably laugh at the sheer irony.

the brew master 09-04-2006 02:02 AM

I already miss him...WHY DID YOU TAKE MY CROCODILE HUNTER AWAY YOU STUPID STINGRAY!

I watched all the stories on the all the channels here and they keep showing the video of him feeding a croc and holding his baby boy...even when hes dead they wont leave him alone.

Fuzzle Guy 09-04-2006 02:37 AM

He shall be remembered throughout history. Hundreds of TV shows spoofed him. Almost every TV show I can think of has had it's astralian dude with a crocodile always saying "crikey".

He IS a ledgend, and he will be remembered forever.

E'l Scrabino 09-04-2006 02:56 AM

Crikey!

Poor, poor Steve...

Bullet Magnet 09-04-2006 02:57 AM

Stingrays... so unlikely to kill you. They rarely use their stings, and the poison can only cause pain. It is the sting itself that causes most damage, most fatalities happen when major arteries are severed. Of all the animals to get him, it was one that has no teeth. Steve shall be missed by many.

Havoc 09-04-2006 03:27 AM

Sucks for the guy. R.I.P with a crock in your pants Stevey! :P

Seargentbig 09-04-2006 03:28 AM

I'll point out that he is only the third (Correction!) documented death by a stingray in Australia's history - now that is unlucky.
It's a shame for him to have died at all - he was one hell of a character. RIP, I guess.

Yup. Larry The Cable Guy attempting to do an impression of Steve Irwin - that's one that will stick with you.

I thought he was the third?

Anyway I loved the guy, and well I've already said what I think of this on my livejournal.

:

For 15 years Steve Irwin has shown us and taught us things about animals that we otherwise would never have known.
He was a great man, and he will be sorely missed.
My heart goes out to his family.

Damn, that poor guy. . . But at least he went out with a bang in an almost unique way.

Anyway, I feel a little guilty for laughing over his death earlier, he was a bit insane and did many silly things, maybe he got a bit too careless this time around - After all, it's not an obvious way to die. :S But he was a good guy in the end. Did a lot for wildlife and respected it. . . Shame it got him in one of the most unlikely ways possible.

Condolances to his family. :\

Wil 09-04-2006 06:27 AM

I'm not surprised. La la la.

Mutual Friend 09-04-2006 07:01 AM

In the words of someone great: someone's gotta stop these fucking stingrays.

SeaRex 09-04-2006 07:24 AM

I'm tired of these motherfucking stingrays on this motherfucking plane.

*copy and paste "what an ironic animal to be killed by" comments here*

AquaticAmbi 09-04-2006 08:08 AM

Adding to (my personal) irony, I learned about his death in one of my marine science classes, right after I learned I will be working with sting rays at some point this semester. The proffessor gave us this big talk on how we could end up in the hospital if we don't handle them cautiously.

My initial reaction was "Oh my gosh! It finally happened!" followed by some laughter, but then I remembered how close he and his wife were and that they had a young little girl. I think it's more tragic than anything.

Hmmm, so that person on DeviantART wasn't lying.

Ah well, I'm sure he feels no regrets over dying like this. He even used to joke about his possible death by wildlife on television commercials. I guess I'll miss him in a sense. I used to watch his shows a lot when I was younger.

Cullen Heath 09-04-2006 08:53 AM

Yeah, I saw this on Yahoo. It's a shame, I really thought he was funny.

At least he died doing what he loved doing! RIP, Steve.

Kamille 09-04-2006 09:03 AM

He cheated death so many times and arrogantly made a movie about it, but stingrays are super lame his wife is probably embarrassed I wouldn't want anyone to know I was killed by a manta especially if I was a legend, doom comes to all.

SeaRex 09-04-2006 09:04 AM

Hey Ambi...

Why couldn't it have killed Jeff Corwin instead, you know? Foolish stingrays.

Manta's may not kill many people, but I have never heard of anyone else taking a 20 cm barb (poisoned or not) to the heart and living.

And his wife is probably grieving and trying to make her two children understand why daddy isn't coming home.

(How old are his kids now anyway?)

I'd imagine his wife and children are more inconsolable about the fact he's dead than blushing with the humiliation of having a husband/father that got killed by a "lame" creature, fuckwit.

Statikk HDM 09-04-2006 09:31 AM

20 cm barb, what is that, 4-6 inches? How big that ray musta been! My brother stepped on one in St. Andrew's Bay about a 1/10th the size of the stingray that got Irwin and he was seriously ****ed up for the rest of the day.
You know, this makes me feel really bad about all the times my dad and my brothers would joke about starting a dead pool for him. I always called snakes. Everybody went with the alligators and crocs, thats bull, Irwin was whoopin' crocs and gators since he was like 10.
Anyhow, this guy brought my whole family a lot of enjoyment and its a pretty shitty way to go. I heard this was the first documented ray death in over 10 years.

His youngest (the one he had in his arms when he fed the crocodile) is 2 now, and his eldest is 8.

I would prefer to think that they are not greiving anymore. But laughing. thinking of all the good times they had with Daddy/Steve.

The 20 cm is what I heard, I could be wrong, but even so, it still hit his heart, he didn't have a chance.

I always thought that if he was killed like this, it would ether be a snake or a large mammal like a lion or a bare.

Greiving is important and takes time. But yes I hope there is laughter in the end.

Fuzzle Guy 09-04-2006 09:39 AM

Or a croc.

I wish it never happened.

This is the only time I can think of in my lifetime that a celebrity I liked died, and when I have tought "I wish he was not dead".

(James Doohan doesn't count, I did not know anything of Star Trek then.)

Ok, I'm sorry If thats what I did when my cousin died. And I know many people who do it.

So stop picking on me for everything I say. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't post at all.
