DDV
Is there any way or program to convert .ddv files (movies) from exoddus and oddysee to .avi or .mpg
|
I'd like to know that myself.
I tried changing the filename extension, but it never works. Which program is supposed to read them anyway? |
I'd love to know too, but I think that kind of file can only be read by the game
|
Shit. And I thought that it was something that can be opened by the media player. But why, on the "properties", does it say "Opens With: Unknown Application" if it's a .ddv file?
(As anyone can see, I'm not a great computer expert) |
Sometimes, if you try and straight open from my computer an unkown file, it will offer to bring up a microsoft.com page with info on the type of file in particular. Otherwise, use google or wikipedia if google isn't helping. Wiki is more specific in that sense, rather than bringing up random sites.
|
Nerds! Nerds ! NEARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! *runs into wall and fall to ground*
|
I tried a lot of things but nothing works only the game and OWI can read it.
EDIT: I can film my computer screen while the video is playing but that's all. Or make an audio recording of it, if that's not illegal that is. |
Mudokon_Jedi are you calling them nerds because they are computer-freaks? If you are, you're a turd. :D Joke!!
|
what do you call computer freaks anyway?
this is only someone who wants to read some videos outside the game |
Well 'Geek' is the generally accepted term, being that to those in the know it is considered as a complement.
|
I'm not "computer freak" or "neard" or "geek" or... I'm just to good in everything :-)))))
|
I'm not a geek either :) some of my friends call me that coz i know good sites, like this :p
|
I'm a "computer whiz", according to my mother.
|
What is whiz?
|
Is RAD VIDEO TOOLS able to convert is?
I cant try it out bechause I dont have any DDV files on my pc :P but RAD VIDEO TOOLS can convert almost everything and it is freeware, just google it. Duscan , I think whiz has something to do with that you know alot about computers. I heard about an television program called whizkids and it was about computers if my mind serves me correct. The only term my mother calls me is "computer addicted" wich is "computer verslaafd" here in the netherlands :P gheez I hate that word :) |
Wiz, whiz or whizz is short for wizard, i.e. someone who is very, very good at something. You'd expect a wizkid to be able to multiply 38 and 124 in their head in a few seconds, or have an intuitive proficiency with technology.

without succes |
ow ok,
first thing I see that cant be converted by it:) Thanks for trying anyway |
there's only 3 ways to take them out of DDV:
1) ask Lorne for convertor:) 2) get the ODDWORLD BONUS DVD (unreal for Europe...and me:() 3) get Fraps and - voila!!! - we have avi or mpeg of every single CG-movie (that's the best way for many of us) plus! if your monitor have A/V slots it's possible to take movies also from MO and SW through XBOX-PC connection))) P.S. Xav, how's Exoddus Movie encoding going?) |
Right, sorry for bumping this but I deemed it to be relevant to the AO/AE screenshots threads. If it's to any help, I can extract movies from the game discs and convert them to .avi. I'm just stating this here to see if there's any interest left.
|
it intrest me!
are you sure you can extract them all? I mean even the ones that are "in game" like the door switches? |
Yes, all of them, even the doorswitches. Every single FMV animation there is on the game disc is extractable and convertable.
|
Can you tell us how to do it ourselves so we don't need to download them? I imagine that would be some mega bandwidth right there.

Alright, here's how you do: Download PSXmc. Check the bottom of this post for links. It's a Playstation compatible utility which is able to rip some .xa streams and other audio formats as well as video data. Insert your AO/AE disc in the CD-drive of your computer, run the program and scan the disc. Scanning takes about 20 minutes, sometimes even less depending on the size of the data. After that, you'll be presented with a list of detected files. You can preview them and you can convert them. Leave the conversion settings as they are, but you might want to consider changing the resolution to 640x480 (The usual dimensions are about half that size). Hit the 'Start convert' button and the files will be saved as .avi files on your harddrive! If you want to use these files to get screencaps you can extract every single frame in a clip by using Virtualdub (veedub) and save these as .tga, .jpg or .bmp images. Kind of nifty if you want to create sigs or wallpapers. Check the links below to download veedub. After you've extracted the clips using PSXmc you need to run veedub (Run the VirtualDub.exe file). Load the clip either by dragging and dropping into the veedub window or selecting File -> Open file. Then go to File -> Save image sequence. Select a directory and a format. After that, you're all set - let veedub run through the clip. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds. wow, it would be awesome if this works...
do you need the PS or PC cd to make this work? |
Why do you think it is called PSXmc??? ;)
Btw, IT WORKS!!! Thank you very much! |
wow it works indeed!
you are awesome!!! |
Damn, got oddysee in 20 minutes, it worked very well (too bad most of them were twice or three times on it (maybe little differences between them??? Or just put on the cd in a straight line, so it wouldn't have to load it back from another ring on the cd??)
Anyway, tried Exodus first disc, took 2 hours! Then I only get to see the first screen, then it freezes, but the sound keeps going, but not good either I think. Will try some more tomorrow. Lol, first 15 seconds only sound, then I got 40 seconds only this freezing images, and then I get to see the 15 seconds of the movie :P. And it all adds up to the time. Total time is 70 seconds :S But no leverpulling animations :P *jeej, 200 posts* |
hmmmm, I can't help you, I only tryed with AO since I don't have the ps version of AE.
but with AO everything works fine :D |
:
all right, good job. but what about PC-versions and MO and SW?)))can you find the way to take them out?;) and one more thing - what about quality of avi in the end of this procedure? |
Why would you bother converting the PC versions if you have the PSX versions of both games? The PC is a direct conversion which means that the video most likely lost quality in the development. Your best bet is to look for the FMVs from the PSX versions. It's not like the games are any different.
You can select quality output. If you choose to compress it - there's a quality loss. If you choose to save it as an uncompressed .avi - you get a huge filesize. It's up to you, pretty much. EDIT: MO and SW versions are both for the Xbox. As I don't have an Xbox, there is no way for me to properly scan these discs. My guess is that you are able to extract video from the Xbox discs, but you need to be one hell of a ripper to make it work with MO or SW. |
:
you should get XBOX and try to scan discs on PC since Oddworld Inhabitants making their games with PC's.it's a challenge for you) |
:
I'm not getting the XBox versions to just potentially be able to scan the discs. That's a waste of money. Also, every game developer uses PCs to create games. That doesn't mean that the games are compatible with computers... |
Can't stream munch oddysee from the Xbox, and got the same problem with Devil May Cry 2 from the PS2. So I guess the program isn't called PSX for fun ;).
Also did mgs1 from the psx, I only got a few movies. Not the "ingame" movies. And a friend of mine tried it with harvest moon, but it wouldn't do it at all. |
heh, it's far much better than nothing :)
|
Yes, got Exoddus working too!. don't know what went wrong yesterday.
If you want, and don't think it will be illegal ofcourse!, I can put them for download an a filestore site. Files would be around 250 mb each then, and for the Exoddus, you need 5 of those. There will be double movies, but I ain't gonna sort it out :), and maybe there is a little difference between then. |
There is no difference between the double movies. They're identical and just take up more space.
|
Now that you mention it, it probably would be illegal to post the FMVs for download. Let me consult with The Powers That Be before you do anything.
|
I don't think it would be very legal indeed.
I have nothing against posting screenshots but we have to put a line somewhere. |
Okay, then you never get those Exoddus movies :P
