Eurovision

Did anyone watch Eurovision this year? It's a music competition between European countries and the UK.It's like a "battle of the bands" type of thing but with professional bands (one band to represent its country). Finland won this year which is kinda funny because they were dressed up as monsters. And I'd also like to add that Lithuania was pathetic (no offense to anyone), but come on, their whole song was basically: "We are the winners, we are, we are, we are...." repeated over and over again. What was that, subliminal messages?

Xavier 05-21-2006 10:33 PM

Go Lordi! Hard Rock Halleluya!

I'm so glad Finland did win. I was damn tired of all the other crap that was presented there, well at least everything else I saw sucked.

oddveteran93 05-21-2006 11:16 PM

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with that. A very poor effort from most countries (some were good, but the rest just mediocre or crap). And the bald guy with the megaphone was simply, sad.

Splat 05-22-2006 12:24 AM

Quoting posts sees to have died on me, so I'll do it this way...

Wow, that's strange Oddveteran, last time I checked the UK was a european country.
Twit.

Problem with Eurovision is that it's just become so political. People vote for the countries they like more than the songs they like. Why UK only got 25 points when it was so similar to the Finland song (monsters, school-girls, same thing) sort of shows things like this. Then you can sometimes guess whose going to get the points from certain countries that are connected politically.

Not about the cheesy songs anymore.
"We are the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest
So vote for the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest"

Nice try Lithuania.

You know what? Screw you. I know it's a European country, I just didn't word it correctly. The problem is that countries usually vote for their neighbours.

you say Metal music and Hip-Hop are the same?

Havoc 05-22-2006 01:15 AM

Damnit, missed it. What place did we (Netherlands) end up with our Treble? :P
But yea, I think that entire song festival is way to political. Not to mention that as with any big event where the people are allowed to vote, it's never honest. Idols for example. The biggest idiots get the biggest fan clubs and eventualy win the finals, while some other guy had waaaay more talent.

Godlesswanderer 05-22-2006 05:36 AM

I think the Netherlands got knocked out in the semi-finals, I don't remember seeing them in the final.

About the Lithuania one, I kinda liked it. I didn't want it to win obviously (Lordi all the way) but it was catchy.

Splat 05-22-2006 05:37 AM

Oddveteran, Xavier, it was a joke.

anyway, the songs usually win for sheer wierdness more than anything else. The music has to be good but the song and act both have to be very wierd as well.
Oh, and you have to be in a country people don't dislike. Then you're sure to win (unless someone else makes a better, weirder song).

I don't know, maybe other countries don't take it as seriously as the way-too patriotic British.
Europe is a strange place to be.

Fez 05-22-2006 08:31 AM

I gave up on the Eurovision Song Contest ages ago. Most of that stuff isn't even worth calling music.

Bullet Magnet 05-22-2006 08:36 AM

It seems that Finland was in on the joke this year :p

Can't believe what my country entered, though I should scoff too much- I have reason to believe that Daz and I may be related in some way:fuzmad:

...I don't want to talk about it...

Godlesswanderer 05-22-2006 08:54 AM

The UK entry sucked balls this year, I reckon we've given up. No one cares anymore, I reckon it'd take a UK win to get everyone caring again.

Rex Tirano 05-22-2006 08:57 AM

The Netherlands was in it... I dn't remember what they did as it was generic... I remember the voting guy though and imagined what several posters on here would sound like. [Yes I'm sad!]

I loved Lithuania! "We are the winners of Eurovision!" Best song by far. If anyone has it please email me it. <3

Mojo 05-22-2006 09:20 AM

Netherlands were kicked out in the semis. I thought it wasn't a generic song, since it was sung in a fantasy language.

But still, Eurovision is nothing but a Balkan-party, with all them Balkan countries voting for their neighbours. Pfah.

Rex Tirano 05-22-2006 09:22 AM

Really? I'm sure they were in it... Ah well. :p

Xavier 05-22-2006 11:19 AM

wo here did like lordi actually?

Adder 05-22-2006 01:24 PM

I'm irish, so I have to post here since we've won a fair few times.

Hard Rock Hallelujai... as soon as I heard it I kinda knew it would win.
It's such a... non-EuroVision song. I hated it. It HAD to win.

The Eurovision has become pretty much a big Bore Fest for most people at this stage. There is a lot of political voting. There are TONNES of non-pop songs {pop=popular, and I only mean that they are not current popular music}.

However, that time (2 years ago?) when the UK got no points {IMO} was due to the singers sounding as if they were in 2 different keys.

Kimon 05-22-2006 05:02 PM

What in the hell is Eurovision?

Yes I know. I said "screw you" in a good way.

Splat 05-23-2006 03:22 AM

The Eurovision Song Contest is a chance for European singers to get together and make asses of themselves.

Enjoy Rexy! Not many people in the rest of Europe did! :p You'd almost think they wanted the rest of Europe saying rude things about em!

You COULD'VE read the first post.

Anyways, I think Lordi deserved to win. It stood out. Unlike all those other poppy and crappy songs.

theoryseventeen 05-23-2006 06:30 AM

I was pretty suprised that Lordi won actually, not because they're not totally amazing but because normally some rubbish pop act wins. All good for Lordi! However, the UK act made me want to vomit somewhat, how could that happen?!

Ninjaxe 05-23-2006 07:29 AM

yeah I watch it....but it not what it should be as countries voted for their neighbours. UK -Teenage life was good. But due to that stupid rule, they came bottom again. Its stupid. Finland song was quite funny. I actually dont mind them. I voted for them because I couldnt vote for my own country:(....although I orginially from HK.

Splat 05-23-2006 07:39 AM

But England had SCHOOL GIRLS! It works for Japan, why didn't it work for us?

Xavier 05-23-2006 08:23 AM

sorry but the UK act was horrible to me...
I realy don't like that kind of music

I was surprised lordi won too, but hey, they were my top favourite

theoryseventeen 05-23-2006 10:26 AM

Because they were English school girls? I wonder if Japanese school girls would kick English school girl butt in a googlefight... *ponders*

Godlesswanderer 05-23-2006 02:56 PM

Hahaha... hmmmmm...
I'm disappointed... :( http://www.googlefight.com/index.php...sh+School+Girl

Well, shucks. I was sure I did read the first post thoroughly. I suppose I was wrong. My apologies.

Mojo 05-24-2006 12:00 AM

Ah, no problem. But next time, read the first post :D :P.

Abe 01 05-25-2006 02:45 AM

England had a 40 year old man acting like he was a teenager with some school girls behind him what couldnt stop smiling :nonono:

Kewl, do you have register with rapidshare. How look for stuff through this site to download? If you understand what I am saying? How you search for the music, mv I want?

oddveteran93 05-27-2006 04:06 AM

Yes, I think I understand. You can't search for stuff on rapidshare.de. You can only download this using a download-link someone gives you.

Ninjaxe 05-27-2006 07:13 AM

so a rapidshare is a uploading site. I thinking on the lines of savefile.com and bodango.com. Yes?

Munch's Master 05-28-2006 12:29 PM

Rapidshare doesn't seem to work for me. Could you try putting it on Sendspace, Yousendit or Megaupload, as they all definitely work for me, as I've used them before. RS used to but then stopped. and Lordi were my favourite, I didn't think they'd win though, but I'm glad they did. They were good and were very different. The English act was sub-standard, but the Lithuania song, while rubbish and annoying, was also somewhat funny. I can't get it out of my head since seeing the lyrics. Damn you Splat!

OANST 05-28-2006 04:23 PM

I've never been prouder to be an American.

I'm going to commence pointing and laughing at Europe now.

Ninjaxe 05-29-2006 03:52 AM

I have to emphasie that Spain was the band les ketchup. Sung the song 'duty free'. I think they might have won if they sung the 'ketchup song'. If you havent heard it then shame on you. Where have you been all these years?

Godlesswanderer 05-31-2006 09:56 AM

Hahaha it was really called duty free?! Hahahahahaha I thought whatever they were saying in spanish only sounded like duty free. Hahahaha! Oh christ, *wipes a tear* you've made my day.
