Next Oddworld Game Type
If Lorne decided to make another Oddworld game to keep us busy for a while :D, what genre do you think the game would be? I personally think/hope it will be another Adventure type of game like MO but with a bit of shooting in it as well. And I also hope desperately that he makes another 2D game like AO and AE.
|
2d games rock the socks, and maybe he could combine the two, I don't know how he would, but if anyone could do it, he could
|
like MO, definatly, or ike SW in te 3rd person
|
Oddworld Horror.
Some really dark, creepy, native ghost shiznit. Terrifying creatures lumbering toward you out of the darkness, things reminiscent of Gloktigi only more... disturbing. That's all I have to say. |
I voted shooter... I want to use these live ammo again ;), nothing else.
|
A Combination of genres. Something like what MO was supposed to be, adventure, stealth, simulation, strategy, ect.
|
Shooter and a mix of genres, just to spice up the recipe.
I loved OSW, and the live critter factor; I do wanna use it again, 'specially the cute lil' Chippunks and Stingbees. ^.^ |
I'd like Abes Oddysee to be redesigned into a FPS (abe dosn't have a gun obviously, except when he possesses a slig). With more of a dark aspect like Sekto wants. Goin round Rupture Farms sneaking in the shadows feeling the Slig right up beside you etc. Seeing a mudokon get beaten the crap out of n then going up n game speaking to it. That would be sweet.
Scrabania and Paramonia can be designed into a massive fantasy world in 3d. With the graphics they can design these days, I think it would look really awesome. |

But not like that, maybe racing after a bad guy that is escaping, and use an Elum, or with Stranger, lope after it. But to me, racing games suck... |
Yes, I hate racing games too. I'm saying that OW would make them interesting; revolutionise them. Maybe an OW racing game would be included in the new game (if there'll be one) as a mini game.
|
Em...well...I guess you could say that it could be a mini-game...
But prolly more of a mission. Not to mess up the atmosphere of the games. :p |
How about an OW RPG?
|
I'd be happy with an Oddworld RPG or with Oddish or Sekto's suggestions, but I have a feeling it'll be another FPS-they'll want/need to get a bigger, mainstream audience buying the games so they have the money for the movies and any subsequent quintology games, and FPS' are the most maainstream games around. I don't want it to be one hthough, SW seems good (Never played it though) but Fangus looked pretty poor, and I'd hate them to bang out another FPS or a SW clone just to appease the masses or make some fast cash.

I hear RPG games these days are really poor.
I've been watching X-play, and every RPG game they get ranges from a 2.5-lower. I dunno how Oddworld Inhabitants can break through by makin' an RPG game. But we all have faith in 'em. I mean, an OW RPG may be a new break-through for OWI, since they mastered at 1st person-3rd person Shooter and OSW. |

You pretty much just go around in a circle until you win. Pretty pointless as a game, but ok as a sport. |
I'd love the original ideas behind MO to be released as a game. That'll learn anyone to doubt.
|
The only thing they have to do is to make it believible again. In MO, they made it a comady. It was like a big joke. They have to make it like AO or AE.
|
Hey, there are some good RPG's out there! Namely Oblivion :P
|
Yeah, just barely some good titles...
|
NO, they cannot and will not make a racing game!
I would hate to see an RPG or a racing. I think they are most safe staying with Adventure and Shooting (Not real Shooting, but Stranger's Wrath stye) games. |
In case of Oddworld, I would like to see an RPG actualy. The universe and the enviorment is great for it.
Most off all, I would like Oddworld to go back to it's roots. The puzzles from the 2D games can't be matched by any 3D game. Unfortunatly, going back to 2D will definatly bankrubt OWI, as the production will likely cost more then it will earn. The principal of MO was good, but would need some serious touch ups to stand out. |
All reasons why EA should be slaughtered.
Although I would love to see another 2D game, it wouldn't do well on the shelves, as many of you stated. I voted combination, because quite frankly, Oddworld seems like the perfect world to pull something like that off. |
They should release the old AO/AE engine so we can make our own games too.
|
that nearly impossible with backgrounds, and without it it wouldn't be the same
|
In relation to that, did AO and AE use the same game engine (A.L.I.V.E)? Or something slightly altered. And I think MO used A.L.I.V.E 2 didn't it? What does OSW use?
|
A.L.I.V.E 3 I imagine XD.
Uh I dunno, doesn't the engine used usualy show up at the start of the game? |
It didn't have a name... probably it was called "the stranger engine"
|
Working from memory, AO and AE officially used the same engine but it had been tweaked for AE. Munch used the A.L.I.V.E.2 engine. Stranger didn't say but then most companies don't advertise their engines the way OWI have. They were just trying to make the point with the quintology games that their characters felt alive and aware.
|
Seeing this consider the question...
Will this be taken into account by OWI? If so then I will consider in choosing what expect to see. I dont want pressure at OWI. Cause the game has to be good and enjoyable. Better than Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath put together. :3 |
The Stranger engine was once refered to as the Stranger Engine. Whether that was it's name or just a literal description, I don't know. I like it as a name.
It's a shame OWI keep building their game engines with the intent to use them on multiple games, but keep having to forget about them (A.L.I.V.E. 2 for Hand of Odd, the Stranger Engine for Fangus). You have to respect their foresight. |
I reckon they should bring back the horror and utter evil of AO. That one gave me nightmares, but those games are not meant for 6-year-olds
|
An adventure game would be fantastic, but in the long-term, I think an Oddworld online RPG would be the icing on the cake. You take control of an industrialist or a natural inhabitant of your choosing and have goals to complete depending on what you have chosen. Perhaps vykkers have to capture natives for testing, Sligs have to collect parts for their pants, Mudokons have to break into industrialist bases to free their brethren, etc. It would certainly be awesome - just think of the possibilities. If it was made 'right' it's a game of the year contender.

Read it carefully cause my english is not good. Storm Riders Online Its actually quite good. Unfornately they limit to the number of people in the server. Only down fall. Back to the point. In it you can change mods to your character and move them around in the environment. What good about this one is that its in 3rd person in 4D prospective. So the camera pans around when you are fighting. So to summerise it all. Oddworld: Hand of odd (online) would surely keep people on their toes while they wait for the movie. Limiting the problems will be that people will have their own aspect of mudokon/glukkon wotever. The server probably couldnt cope. Problems 1. Limiting the numbers user 2. Bigger space 3. Hugh demand in scenry 4. We want more and more work for Lorne. As he may not just open it and let us it to our disposal |
