New Titles & Ranks
 

After a few weeks consideration, we've finally updated the old titles and ranks system. The new system reflects Oddworld Inhabitants' latest release, Stranger's Wrath. You'll also notice that we have now decided to use OWI symbols in place of stars.

We hope you like the new titles! And don't expect us to reveal these titles for a few years yet :p We need some mysticism here!

With the release of Stranger's Wrath, it felt innapropriate to continue using Munch's Oddysee themed titles. Thus our Stranger's Wrath themed titles.

So now are zappfly the lowest rank. But how does it work? Are you getting more rigths as your rank rises and what whit the symbols? In which order are the new ranks placed and how was the old ranks placed? Can you self decide your rank to be oddworld themed or not when you get the status of modrator or even administrator? And how are i going to get a higher rank?

Yes, Zappfly is the lowest rank, replacing Slurg. Initially, you'll traverse the ranks of various Live Ammunition - but that's all that I'm giving away :p

You can't self decide your rank. It's decided completely upon your post count, but by no means is that an incentive to post more and spam. Otherwise it's the usual punishments. With Moderators, they cannot self decide their rank either, but the majority of them have Custom Titles, so they replace their rank.

Administrators by default would be stupid if they didn't have a Custom Title. We need to self indulge sometime :p

I really don't like these new titles. I don't own Stranger's Wrath myself, so most of them mean nothing to me. But the main reason I dislike the new ones is I prefered it when it was the AO/AE/MO titles, as the Quintology is more at the core of Oddworld, so to me should be what the titles are based off. I like the symbols replacing stars, but not the new titles. They should either be a mix, or go back to the old ones IMO.

Is there a guide released with the post numbers and the rank for those post numbers? Or you'd like to keep it a 'surprise'.
I Didn't know the old ranking system longer then 1 day, so I guess it is reasonable for me to say: good work!

Just 2 ideas:

1. Don't make the ranks completely based on one game. Make some from Stranger's Wrath, the rest from MO.

2. That rank thing is too pink. Change the colour to bronze for normal, silver for mod and gold for admins, like the stars.

2nd idea of Slig sounds rather good, but all moderators have there own tag which has there own colour right? Admins have Cyan and mods something else? But still there is music in the idea

Isn't the phrase: merit in the idea? Cause I've never heard of 'music in the idea'. But yeah, CS's ideas are both quite good, his first 1 was what I sorta suggested. His second one is a good idea too.

It's dutch, I like to merge dutch and english with each other, gives a nice effect. 'Music in the idea', don't mention my idioticness from time to time ;)

Ah I see you finaly put them up. I still think you should have some 1 - 2 pixel space between the OWI logo's, cuz it looks all messy now.

About time you got those up, good work, Alcar.

I think it's odd having replacing the stars with OWI's gem logo, looks to me that way. And I agree with Havoc.

So, where is the full list of all ranks?

Am I missing something or does only Alcar have OWI symbols? Everyone else just has stars.

In a way I'm a tad disappointed, if only because I can't rise through the ranks and get excited as I discover each new level as I did for the old ones. But you shouldn't read that as a hint to nuke my post count :D

I don't know about these. I liked the Munch's Oddysee ones a lot more.
And we had NO warning about them...why?

I finnaly got to a really cool rank, and now I'm an Outlaw Shooter.


Also, I don't see any stars OR Symbols.

The only one with symbols right now is Alcar, everyone else has stars. I didn't pay much atention to the ranks so it doesn't bother me.

Great, so now I've no idea what ALL the ranks are {in game}.

Oh well, at least we're moving with the times, I guess.

Weird, I see the Oddworld symbols for everyone just fine- purple gem with bronze outline for basic members, light blue gem with silver outline for mods, and navy blue gem with gold outline for Alcar. How come nobody else can see htem? Also, I echo Cullen's statement.

If you're seeing stars, you probably have a cache issue. I did. Just refresh or clear your cache, but refreshing should work.

I also changed it so there is a 2px space each side of the symbols. I thought they looked to squished, and when I saw others comment on it, I decided to just do it anyways. :p

Um, no further comments as I know nothing of Oddworld-related shtuffs. :p But this must have taken you forever; I admire your dedication!

I agree. The OWI symbols do seem a bit out of place, as well as redundant, since we already use them for everything else.

I liked the other ones, but Change comes if we like it or not *sigh*
I understood the others better. since it was Hierarchy and foodchain combined.

Waaaagh! I've just devolved from a pea-brained, gun toting slig popper to a pea-brained, concrete-skulled Thudslug! What the hell?

Perhaps the MO and SW ranks should be combined, or maybe you should be able to choose a side to join eg outlaw, industrialist etc and then be promoted through their ranks.

I assume "Steef" is the highest one on this system?

I agree, THAT IS an awesome idea!

That would be very cool, as long as we had no wars, or anything. If we were to do this, I think that it should just be for looking at who's on what side. Not like a giant RPG.

I think maybe we're getting a little carried away. How about your rank changes with what outlook you use.

Well, this'll be very entertainin', until a new Oddworld something comes out.
Then we'll see what fun we have in store fer us, Alcar. ;)

It's not being caried away, I have been playing with the idea of having Native & Industrial ranks sepperate for a long time back with the old ranks. But I just knew it would be very hard to realize, even harder to convince anyone it was a good enough idea to work on, so I never bothered to bring it up. But now that someone did, it would be fun looking into it. And if there already is a mod available that does this, then it's little trouble installing it. Would take the forum offline for 30 min tops, depending on how complicated it is. But since it's all Alcar's call, I don't think its gonna happen.

It's an awesome idea, but the practicality of it is that by dividing the ranks up, there are fewer surprises as you progress up them. The way it is now you can get dozens of ranks during your Forum tenture instead of 5 to 10.

Don't look at me for this one ... I can't program PHP if I tried. Okay, I lie, I can install a hack if it's already there. But still, it's more Alcar's department.

I'll stick to graphics and skins. :p
