Molluck Model for Sale!

Oh My God. I typed in Molluck on Google images and saw a little model with Molluck stood on it. I thought it must be an origonal model that they used to make the CG model of Molluck. Then I saw that model of Molluck again, with info on the Molluck model.

http://www.mooncrest-models.co.uk/images/molluck.JPG

It stands six inches tall, and consists of three resin cast pieces and a single white metal cast piece. Then I read more. You can buy it!

For 25 quid in England (53 US dollars).

Now I'm pretty sure it's not official, but I think I might buy it. I am not really bothered if it is official or not (As long as it is not illigal like that other Abe Model) because I love the characters and I would like to have them around my house. I failed to get the Abe model AND the Munch Model cos of stupid PayPal, so I will not miss out on this.

You can also get Abe, But Frankly, I think he looks crap:

http://www.mooncrest-models.co.uk/images/Abefull.JPG

Abe is the same price.

If you would like to have a look at Mooncrest Models, the company that sells these models, then follow the link.

The Molluck one does look pretty but I would never be able to get it to look like that if I had to do it myself (which you do, it comes in pieces that you have to put togethor and paint). Plus it isn't official, so I will probably pass.

Fuzzle Guy 02-17-2006 08:25 AM

I know you have to make it yourself but I'm Quite good with models so I should be alright.

I might not buy it cos It's not official because something deep down tells me it's wrong but what is that something, could anyone tell me "And don't come out with some wise arse coment like 'It's your conscience' I want to know why I don't want it"

Biggy Bro Slig 02-17-2006 08:30 AM

Cool! I wouldn't buy the Abe one though. Looks scruffy.

Havoc 02-17-2006 09:04 AM

I don't realy think that thing looks like molluck realy. More like on of those gluks on the pedestals during the meeting, the gluk in green mostly.
Mullock has more bussiness like clothing as far as I saw.

Cullen Heath 02-17-2006 10:13 AM

Yeah, you have to put it together yourself and that is REALLY hard. Plus it's so expensive.

Xavier 02-17-2006 10:48 AM

and it isn't official at all...
personally I won't buy any statues unless they are officially licenced

Fuzzle Guy 02-17-2006 11:20 AM

I don't understand why people won't buy unofficially licensed stuff. If it looks good get it. I'm sorry but I don't think about companies getting money if I could get something that looks really good for less money for myself, or just to have somethign that looks really good.. Sorry if I have offended any Oddworld Fans but this is my opinion.

I won't buy copies of DVD's, Nintendo Games, X-box Games, or Cd's, because often they don't work (If it's a game), and this is why I don't buy them.

It's only 25 squidlies, which is really, really cheap in the UK.

Cullen Heath 02-17-2006 11:30 AM

And you know how to put together kits???

Cause these are very advanced kits.

Xavier 02-17-2006 12:57 PM

I don't buy any non-official stuff because they have no value to me, since I'm a collector freak. I do agree those statues are pretty, but are also ripoff OWI.

they are making money with owi's work, without paying them

Shrink 02-17-2006 03:31 PM

Both models are pretty poor, and the company probably is not allowed to be producing them.

Cullen Heath 02-17-2006 04:18 PM

Yeah, this is all true.

FuzzleGuy, I wouldn't buy them if I were you.

-They are illegal.
-They are not the best looking ones.
-They are expensive.
-They are unofficial and would lose Oddworld Inhabitants a lot of money.

Angalok 02-17-2006 06:09 PM

The Molluck one is pretty slick, although whoever painted the Abe one didn't do too good a job. I've never been into do-it-yourself models, personally, otherwise I might give these a try.

Although the website of the company looks rather amateur (layout, color scheme, etc), and that's what worries me more than the fact that they're "bootleg". My cousin tried to buy a Halloween costume from a website with the same made-in-20-minutes-by-a-tenth-grade-html-student look to it, and they took his money and sent him nothing.

Usually I don't worry too much about whether something is a bootleg or not, but I would make an exception in Oddworld's case. They always seem to be uncomfortably on the edge in terms of finances, and I wouldn't want to support something that's draining our chances of seeing another game/movie.

Considering that Lorne and Co. will probably be sending a cease and desist order to that model company any second now, I'd order the thing while it's still available... Although it's not like Oddworld gives us any official merchandise to keep us satisfied.

outlaw king 02-17-2006 11:37 PM

I like it! there are no other models of molluck i know , so i might consider it.

Biggy Bro Slig 02-17-2006 11:51 PM

Yeah, Me too, outlaw king. You may aswell buy it if it's the only one.

outlaw king 02-17-2006 11:55 PM

Errrr , this may seem a stupid question , but roughly how tall is six inches?

Biggy Bro Slig 02-18-2006 12:23 AM

15.24cm I think

this statue has been available for years, don't worry...
Lorne has other things to do now then sue some guy, he could have done years ago

on the other side OWI doesn't loose money with those guys, simply if they decide one day to put some official statues on the market, people may not want it anymore because they allready got one.

Kamille 02-18-2006 09:57 AM

I'd buy the molluck one you just need the paint to make it look more like the real molluck

outlaw king 02-18-2006 11:27 AM

Those other models are pretty high quality! The molluck model seems a great buy for 15.24 cm! he'll look cool on my workdesk , next to my gremlins action figures!

Dark Elite_H2 02-18-2006 11:29 AM

Cha...and I was hopeful that it'd be official...:fuzemb:
I hope that one day, OWI will decide on making statues of Abe, Munch, Stranger, and all inhabitants of Oddworld.
One day...

outlaw king 02-18-2006 11:34 AM

I can not agree more . One day...... ill have all of oddworld , perched in glass cases.

Lorne should do that , hed get tons of moolah from the oddworld fans if he released all the characters.

Exactly my point.
If he'd do such a thing, he'd get more money to work on his future project.
There's a lot'a Oddworld fans out there, and we'd die to get such items. :D

outlaw king 02-18-2006 12:26 PM

* pulls out gun , and puts it to head *

please release some figures!

* BANG! *

Nah just jokes , it was a dud anyways

Fuzzle Guy 02-18-2006 01:05 PM

I am not going to buy it as I am far to busy with school and my next film, and it wouldn't get made for about 2 years.

However I would buy all Oddworld models thst are officialy associated with OI. If I were to waltz down to Wooloworths tomorrow and I saw a little set of Abe Action Figures I would buy them out of stock.

outlaw king 02-18-2006 01:25 PM

Not if i got them before you!
* runs down to woolworths*

bugger , theyre not there

Xavier 02-19-2006 02:21 AM

I'm not sure Owi would make big cash with action figures...

I mean everybody said the same thing before about an art-of book, and look at it now, months have passed since it's release and there are still some lmited editions left, plus I've heard the others editions didn't sell very good either.

I'm against any merch now, there aren't enough potential buyers

Fuzzle Guy 02-19-2006 03:33 AM

I can understand the Limited Editions not selling as they are too expensive for a book that is near enough the same as a regular hardback, which is why I didn't get it. I would be too scared to have a limited edition of such a precious book anyway incase I ripped it whiles turning the page. I'm perfectly happy with the one I've got.

But I don't understand why the regular editions didn't sell. If they launched it in the shops, or even on amazon, then they would get more of a sale for it.

Wil 02-19-2006 09:51 AM

Yeah, but they wouldn't have made as much money out of it. Ballistic Publishing, an Australian company, would be forced to set up American warehousing if they wanted to sell through Amazon, and would have to discount the price of the books by 70% to sell to retail chains, and both would cause an increase in price and a decrease in shipping quality for us, the customers.

HobbitNinj 02-20-2006 07:53 AM

I cringe every time I see something I want and you can only get it online. Call me old fashioned, but I don't trust the whole credit card thing. A reason why I'll probably never own the Art of Oddworld book. I bet Oddworld merchandise would sell pretty good... if it were sold in stores instead of online.

Pzak 02-21-2006 06:40 AM

Please don’t confuse unlicensed with illegal. I have no idea about these models, so I can only speak for myself. To date, I have done three model kits from the Oddworld universe and none of them is officially licensed. I tried to obtain a license, but they were not issuing licenses for anything at the time.

But I did get permission from Lorne to produce a small number of my sculpts as garage kits. Of course, the first copies were sent to Oddworld Inhabitants. He was also gracious enough to give a nice quote for painting article that was run in Amazing Figure Model.

However, if these kits are done without permission, it is stealing and wrong by US copyright laws.

The problem with supporting knock offs is that the company doesn’t get any money for that sale and therefore they eventually stop making product. Sure, what’s a dollar here or there, but when thousands of people do it, it means big money.
