General Music Chatter v2

Linkage to origional if necessary.

:

Ok, i've put to death the demon that is 'What are you listening to v.2'

It is being replaced with this merry thread. Few rules, by all means post what you're listening to, but back it up with a post of substance, explaining why you're listening to them, what you're into at the moment, recent musical discoveries, or relating for another member's posts.

Also, talk about instruments that you can play and bands that you may be in. As this is more general musictalk, i won't be merging the Metal Thread in here, and neither will any Rap Dance Trance Or Techno thread and such that come up, as in understand the need not to generalise music as one. Improvement suggestions in this thread please.

So discuss. Perhaps songs/band/albums that have effected your life, or your favourite music person (^_^).

Being a complete fag, the Kingdom Hearts theme, that one by Utada Hikaru, super effected me back in 2002; Even though I much dislike it's genre. That and the Deus Ex II theme (omfg me teh geek lolol) hold some emo-painful memories.

I've recently been getting into Modest Mouse and Mars Volta, both super coolio.

Random musical fact: Leto was born to Roger Eno's 'Voices', whoever the **** that Leto guy is.

used:) 12-19-2005 03:46 PM

hah! I was thinking about doing something of this sort, Super Munch ;).

Well, i have recently gotten immersed in symphony and other classical shiz (see Leto for details). I have recently taken a liking to the famous Bolero by Maurice Ravel. It goes on for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever, but it is also most fanous for taking a considerable amount for time to grow into a forte or fortissimo ( I couldn't tell exactly which one) with he exact same melody and counter melody the whole way through. It is just so good.

The one when you get given the Crowbar off Barney is a good one :)

The "atmospheres" (they're not called soundtracks these days) in HL2 are brilliant in general. I dislike the way that they fade out quite soon though, because it's usually just to accommodate concentration in a really tediously lengthy puzzle area. Doesn't give it a very "action packed" feel, makes it quite uninspiring to play.[/review]

T-nex 12-20-2005 08:07 AM

I like the soundtracks from red alert one!! :-) I love game-soundstracks. I especially like the opening music from morrowind. And the music from the old game, Jazz Jackrabbit... A classic... ^_^

Very true, I like every single one of them, but I especialy like the Valve Theme. I play it all the time :D.

If you say Red Alert music, you say Hell March! Another great piece of music. In fact, all the music from Frank Klepacki is realy good, but Hell March is a masterpiece.

Leto 12-20-2005 11:04 AM

T-nex 12-20-2005 12:02 PM

I judt LOVE listening to Limp Bizkit and angry music ^_^ But i also like techno... Not all of it, cos most techno is just too lame an repeatetive(sp?)

Adriel 12-20-2005 12:23 PM

Techno is stupid. There's really no veriety. All there is is retarded and even more retarded.

used:) 12-20-2005 12:25 PM

The gorillaz and O-zone are techno. They're pretty good.

T-nex 12-20-2005 12:29 PM

OMG!! Even if I'm from romania, i just LOATHE O-zone... Everybody heard that friggin "numanuma" song everyday... I was sooo close to going nuts...

Anyways, even though most techno has no variaty, there are few techno songs i really like... But they are more ambient, or are mixed with some other genre... But i like listen to Kraftwerk too... The creators of TECHNO!! Muahah... uhm...

Anyways, i also love Techmaster P.E.B the bass is fantastic... You guys/gals should try listening to it.

OANST 12-20-2005 12:33 PM

Gorillaz is so far from being techno that it isn't even funny. They are trip-hop.

used:) 12-20-2005 12:43 PM

Ha!

Don't be feelin bad Nexy, there are numerous bands from Merka that I sepise, like the backstreet boys, or ACDC( actually I have nenver heard them, it just annoyos me ghow everyone is all like "OMG ACDC IS TEH SHIT")

Leto 12-20-2005 01:48 PM

Rebuttle for the "Techno is repetitive so it teh suck" case:

Yes, techno is repetitive. So is reggae, So are many different musical styles. But repetition doesn't necessarily mean something isn't good. Bob Marley once said something along the lines of:

Sure, my music is repetitive, but it has feeling.

Or something. Thing can be good, even if they repeat.

So I'm guessing you'd hate ambient music? ^_^

T-nex 12-20-2005 01:55 PM

No i like technoe and ambient, but some of it is TOO repetitive... I mean, some of it basically has no feeling to it, and sounds like it's made by some wannabe-dj or something.

But i do like Ambient, Techno, Electric, trance and all that stuff.

Leto 12-20-2005 01:56 PM

You are indee dright, some house is unbearable. I was just saying that not all repetitive music is bad.

Heart teh Brian/Roger Eno <3.

Icarus 12-20-2005 02:35 PM

i've realized that society listens to meaningless shit music, and the truth is it effects us, and either we dont realize it or we dont care. People listen to the sounds around you and analyze whether or not the body you posess, the being you posess has a balanced equality level to what you do and what you listen to. are you who you realy think you are, focus and you will discover.

Leto 12-20-2005 02:39 PM

What the hell?

This is my Leto impression:

Would you like some crumpets and tea? I would because I'm Leto.
Shine your shoes? I would because I'm Leto.
Would you like some more weed, Mr Icarus? I would because I'm Leto.

dont be hate'n my dude, lol, but seriously guys the world is not a game where you can just F@#$ up and start again, take concideration in what you do and how you process it, your death can be right around the corner. all i am saying is watch out for yourselves and understand the earth is real, you dont know whats after...

T-nex 12-21-2005 08:15 AM

What does that have to do with music?? :-S Ppl listen to what they want... There's no right or wrong music, just the ones you like best. Matter or opinion...

Leto 12-21-2005 03:24 PM

Honestly, Icarus, if you've got some weed, some would be appreciated.

And exactly what T-nex said. No music is truely bad (save Slipknot), it's up to the listener.

metroixer 12-21-2005 03:51 PM

I'm backing up with Leto and T-Nex also. It's so stupid though how people all around you will make fun of you because you like different opinions. Face it world! You are not robots!

T-nex 12-21-2005 04:50 PM

Well... There IS bad music, but that's music made by amatours(sp?)... Some of it sounds horrible, but there still are people who like it... Just very few ones...

Leto 12-21-2005 06:37 PM

^No, no. THe music sounds good to them to even make it, doesn't it? To them it sounds just dandy, so there is one person who likes it, so therefor it isn't bad.

Or, erm, something similar.

Icarus 12-21-2005 07:01 PM

There is no such thing as bad music, it is what the people make of it...

The truth is that people are so F@#$ed up that they let the media tell them whats good, what sucks, and basically what to do.

Media=Rich a$$holes who tell middle cass to low class kinda people to give them our money so they can use it to wipe there shit whith it.

F@#$ THE MEDIA!!!!!!!

SeaRex 12-21-2005 07:46 PM

Yes, fuck the media. Always sinking it's amorphous tentacles into every facet of our lives. Including the very medium we are using to talk to each other. Shame on you, media. Corrupting us under the false pretense of being a forum. Shame.

YA LIEK did you guys know that global warming is just myth created by oil barrens, the media, and ghost pirates? Boy, do we have egg on our faces!

Rex Tirano 12-22-2005 03:32 AM

Oh Lukey. How I love you. I will divorce Ambi, and you shall be my new wife. :)

And I agree with Leto. No music is bad, it's just the opinions of the person. If we all liked the same music, wouldn't life be boring?

However, everyone should love Placebo and Oasis.

- Rexy

T-nex 12-22-2005 03:42 AM

And everyone SHOULD love Limp Bizkit... But sadly not everyone does :-(

Blabla...

Leto 12-22-2005 11:11 AM

^Harhar! Teh lowl! :D^

What Searex said.

What Ollylops said.

No, they're pirate ghosts. Ghost pirates would suggest they were dead and became pirates, but pirate ghosts are ghosts of pirates.

Change of topic: Play you an instrument? I play guitar and can almost play drums.

http://www.j-guitar.jp/sea/data/1004/r/3610_2.jpg

^Shall purchase that sometime in the future, but for the moment I'm happy with being a moneyless hippy. ^_^

Kimon 12-22-2005 11:16 AM

w007!

Matt plays drums! Matt plays drummmms!

Leto 12-22-2005 11:28 AM

Me at bass = sucks a lot.

MojoMan220 12-22-2005 09:22 PM

On the subject of instruments: I recieved a brand-spankin' new acoustic/electric guitar for an early Christmas present, and it rocks. I'm really excited about learning, I just hope my fellow tenants don't piss on my fun. It sucks living in an apartment.

Leto 12-23-2005 11:00 AM

Holy anus, that sounds cool. I recently saw'd a guy with an elec/acoustic, and it looked pretty shmansy. How much it cost the person who purchased it?

Icarus 12-23-2005 06:11 PM

:

And everyone SHOULD love Limp Bizkit... But sadly not everyone does :-(

Blabla...

uhh... Dude i am a limp bizkit fan. My favorite album is "Chocolate Starfish and The Hotdog Flavored Water". Love That F@#$ing Album

MojoMan220 12-23-2005 06:28 PM

:

How much it cost the person who purchased it?
I think it was around $230 dollars including tax.

http://media.zzounds.com/media/fit,3...50aa0af916.jpg

It's an Applause AE 128 by Ovation, which sports a super-shallow roundback.

I'm great at bass, been playing for 6 years and i still do.

Leto 12-24-2005 05:51 PM

If you say you're great at bass, you instantly aren't; You just are great at bass, you know?

Mojoman, that's one funky lookin' machine.
