What kind of music styles do you listen to?

Hi everyone!

In this thread you may tell a little about your favourite music style/styles you like the most and post some pics on your fav. singers, bands etc. I myself isa student who studies music and I'm pretty interessed in many sorts of music styles...

I'm a christian so I listens mostly, but not always to christian music and my favourite singer is called Carman and the favourite band is Stryper.

Carman has a lot of different music styles, like samba, rock n' roll and other. While Stryper has a mix of heavy metal and rock n' roll.
here are two pics of them.

I jus' love 'em:happy:

OANST 11-16-2005 06:19 AM

I am going to ignore the fact that you listen to Stryper for the moment. You can thank me later. If you would like to listen to some truly brilliant music made by someone with a strong Christian background then check out Sufjan Stevens. His album Illinois is one of the most beautifull works of music ever created. This is a must own if you are truly studying music.

Dancing Steef 11-16-2005 06:35 AM

Sadly, I've never heard of him before, but thanx for the tip though. well then I suggest you listens to him ain't ya? hehe I'm not always listening to Stryper but sometimes I do. otherwise I also listens to a band called Ultrabeat and they're good. it has some kind of mix between techno and dance, the music is good but is more useful when you're out n' working in the garden or at school... that's jus' me though.

a flock of seagulls 11-16-2005 06:45 AM

I pretty much listen to anything, except for country, and pop.
Mostly I listen to classic rock, new rock, and metal.

OANST 11-16-2005 06:45 AM

I understand what your saying. But, I'm talking about REAL music. Music that someone poured everything they had into. Music that is not just brilliantly played but also brilliantly written. There has never been a band touting Christian ideals that has accomplished that before. I'm not screwing around here. YOU MUST BUY A SUFJAN STEVENS ALBUM! Preferably Illinois.

Dancing Steef 11-16-2005 06:57 AM

Slow down there, I would like to buy an album of his music, but not now( I'm outa cash right now) :( I understand... Okay as fast as I get time and money then I'll check the album and perhaps buy one;) I'll not miss a good or brilliantly written music style when I get the oppurtunity:p

Oddish 11-16-2005 10:11 AM

I mostly like listening to alternative rock and indie rock. So I love listening to the band, Muse, my all time fav. I love thier style, I think they're brilliant in my opinion.

We already have a thread like this, and I think it's libel for ressurection, but, who knows?

I like to listen to not one kind of genre, more like, unique and different artists. But In general, you would say that I am a hiphop/techno fan.

Leto 11-16-2005 12:00 PM

I listen to things I think sound cool.

So there, I said it. Placebo, Aphex Twin, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, and many other assorted things. I recently got hold of Ambient Works Volume II, and ****, I should have gotten it a long time ago.

Also, General Music Chatter anyone?

Rincewynd 11-16-2005 12:15 PM

CheeseOfGlory 11-16-2005 08:10 PM

Everyone loves classic/psychedelic/hippy and progressive rock. You simply can't deny that pink floyd, simon and garfunkel, grateful dead, genesis, led zeppelin, and so forth were all highly amazing.

Yeah, SAW2 is a brilliant piece of work.

My tastes in music at the moment are Emo, Hardcore, Ambient, Electro Experimental/Avant Garde, Grunge/Postgrunge, and Metal (Numetal, Alternative, etc.).

SeaRex 11-17-2005 03:43 AM

The only genre I devotedly listen to is punk. Classic punk, horror rock, hardcore, even some modern punk... I've pretty much listened to, and continue to listen to, most of punks crazy little sub-genres. I think the reason that I like the genre so much is because I get a sense of energy from it. Everyone has a genre that just "revs them up." For me, it's always been punk.

The rest of the genres I listen to aren't so much genres as they are single bands. I like a LOT of different bands, but I haven't delved into many genres. Some of my favorite random bands are Gorillaz, The White Stripes, Jethro Tull, System of a Down, Rammstein, Melt Banana, Bob Marley, a few random ska bands, and a few random J-Rock/Pop bands, like Shonen Knife and Puffy AmiYumi.

I also really like Akira Yamaoka (the guy that does music for the Silent Hill games).

Lastly, I really like celtic/Irish folk songs, especially those done by the Brobdingnagian Bards. Oh, and classical, especially Beethoven and Bach.

I love... and hard rock (Green Day).[/IMG]

Not that I mind Green Day, albeit when they were still Green Day rather than every trend humping critic's new (insert punk/political/rock/punk rock/political punk/"rock opera"/"dangerous" music/political rock) savior. But hard rock? Just can't buy that:p

But anyways, back to the subject.

For me, ever since I heard that fateful Less Than Jake song on Nickelodeon, I've held a soft spot for ska, and respectively, the lighter, less thrashy/hardcore esque side of punk. I find the lifted mood is much more enjoyable than what the current crop of emo/screamo/pop punk bands offer up, not to mention utilizes the horn section my band half so adamantly adores. This Christmas, once I obtain some more cash/presents, I really hope to tack on some awaited ska additions. Some of that shit is damn hard to find in stores, and most of that shit is damn expensive on the internet.

My other joy is rests in the "grunge" and "alternative" rock of the early '90s, you know, back when a solid rock song was something other than a over-produced riff streamlined to run alongside Avril or Usher on the local Top 40 station. That's right, Chris Martin, walk away and take your whiny falseto with you. And Fred Durst, why you even think that wretched nu-metal will buy you love these days...

The other three genres I'll readily appluad are as follows: the late '90s pop rock type bands that held their moments of glory, numerous selections of classic rock, and most of the genres that make up jazz. Not to say I don't like anything else; I'll tap along with a good metal beat or thrash number any day. I'm not exclusivist; just a bit picky.

Pretty much, the only thing you can expect me to truly put down is the rap/hip hop related culture. Lyrical/publicity gimmick/"talent" assertions aside, I just don't like the synthesized beats. I find them, on the whole, too sterile and repetitive for lasting enjoyment. Hell, the same factor even comes into my opinion with Nine Inch Nails, but I'll be one of the first to name Reznor as a brilliant musician.

Let me also take a minute to say, Clear Channel, you suck. Stop hogging the only modern rock station in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The music isn't just a couple months behind the latest hit singles, but also far too narrow when it comes back to recalling an old song.

Dino 11-20-2005 05:42 AM

Hard Rock?

Isn't that a shitty cafe?

Biggy Bro Slig 11-20-2005 09:45 AM

A frog saying "Ba ding-a-ding Ding"

Rich 11-20-2005 09:47 AM

Britpop, acid house, indie.

Muse, Oasis and The Stone Roses get honourable mentions as my favourites.

Rex Tirano 11-20-2005 10:35 AM

I currently listen to more Pop than I'd like to admit.

I recently got Kelly Clarkson's new album, as well as The PussyCat Dolls. But I also listen to Stacie Orrico, Vanessa Carlton, Phil Collins and McFly. Yes, so sue me. I have turned into a pop-princess.

But I listen to alot of other stuff. Placebo are my favourite band, but Breaking Benjamin, Muse, Funeral For A Friend, FreeFaller, Avril Lavigne, Weezer, ect are generally on my mp3 player.

I like GreenDay, it's just so annoying that alot of my friends have recently got into them due to 'American Idiot'. Billy-Joe... *Daydream

And you must all listen to Flogging Molly.

- Rexy

Mojo 11-20-2005 10:39 AM

My preferences? Hardrock, light-metal, punk, and that theatrical metal stuff, like HIM. Bands that fall in those categories: Breaking Benjamin, Staind, Green Day, Muse, and some others. Also, I'm kinda into Flogging Molly lately. There's something about them that makes me wanna dance.

Yes, I like the Band as well. Noice ol' western/southern feeling to it.

OANST 11-21-2005 06:42 AM

I got the new Death Cab for Cutie album recently. It's pretty good. Nothing can take away my obsession for Modest Mouse, however.

Wow, another Death Cab fan! Their new album is indeed good, though not quite as catchy as say Transatlanticism. Modest Mouse are awesome as well. :D

OANST 11-21-2005 12:10 PM

So very true. If you like Modest Mouse then you must own their album "This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About." It's f'ing brilliant.

Abe16 11-21-2005 06:35 PM

I like country, like, Tavis tritt,Big and Rich, Kenny chesney, Rascal Flatts, stuff like that.

Dancing Steef 11-22-2005 03:11 AM

have anyone heard 'bout Gaither gospel? it's a group of four to five men who are singing (christian music) in a choir and they got a lot of good albums.;)

Cullen Heath 11-22-2005 08:41 PM

I HATE country! The sound of thier annoying voices............!!!!!!!

Metallica is the way to go!

OANST 11-23-2005 05:17 AM

Ugh! Like, gag me with a spoon!

Cullen Heath 11-23-2005 07:17 AM

All Ive got right now is a fork.

Why dont you like Matallica?

OANST 11-23-2005 08:16 AM

I don't hate them. I just think they make really unimportant music. Yeah, they had some politically charged albums in the early years but the themes they explored were somewhat childish and (to me at least) were very transparent that they were talking about politics to have an excuse to be angry instead of any real interest in the subject.
