Fangus pictures! (the game's still canceled)
TOGG is proud to give you the chance of viewing some art of "The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot"
Head over here: http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/togg...A&page=CABBFK1 Remember OWI doesn't work on that project anymore! There is more to come :p |
Where's The Odd?
Is it just me, or do those look very...well human? That just doesn't seem to be right. Where's all the trademark Odd stuff? By the looks of things it was a good thing 'Fangus' was cancelled, it's a pity, looked like it was going to be a good idea...oh well...
|
The enviroments looked good but they still didn't feel 'odd'
|
I think they do...
it's not the same feel as AO, AE or MO it's not the same feel as SW But I feel the unique touch all those creations have in common. This is definately Oddworld |
They're definatley oddworld, but looking at them at first they didn't jump out at you as being odd. (i've proberbly just contradicted myself, but oh well)
I really like that one picture of what looked like an entrance. I tried saving them to my computer, but they came up blank. I'll try it again. |
Helicopters!?
:
But you're right about the entrance picture Nath, that's definitely more in the Oddworld style. |
The environments, the driller and that copter thing (use it as a Slig transport suit oddworld, Fangus, the other characters, weapons and vehicles don't. Fangus and the bacground guys you can see are more or less human, and the weapons are more of a sci-fi blaster than Oddworld. I am very pleased it was cancelled. Take the copter, drill thing and environments and put them in an Abe game to restart the game series, or put them in the rumoured Abe movie(s). Te copter isn't too distant from Oddworld IMO, and it could be used as an industrial transport vehicle like the driller. Fangus himself is too human for Oddworld, and so are his weapons (Plasma Gun? Simnce when does that suit Oddworld?)
|
I don't like to say this, but there might be a human-type creature on oddworld.
It wont be called human, but it would look like it and it would be on oddworld On the other hand we saw another picture of fangus that looked more like a hulk version of this one, simply because he was turning crazy. So he isn't that human after all. Plus look at his feet :p I think it's because Oddworld want people to relate more to the character. |
I especially like that shot of the city. It is very well drawn. And those ARE great pictures Xavier! *wink wink*
|
The art looks very good. But I agree with the majority that this should have never become a game. It would never have fitted in the current Oddworld universe. The thing that marks Oddworld are the storylines everyone loves. Everyone is drooling and begging to see more of Abe or Stranger. And Oddworld fans won't be around for ever if they decide to throw in a completely new story line after every game.
|
H-HE'S HUMAN! No, no, no...I definately agree that this shouldn't become a game. No way...having a human on oddworld will defiantely take out the odd in the games...nope, nope, nope...
|
read what I've said some posts above.
but I tend to agree they shouldn't change their style that radically now |
I know! If they made a human in Oddworld, that'd ruin the "Odd" and it wouldn't be good, 'cause Lorne lose a lot of fans over that game. It's a good thing he cancelled it. Not tryin' to be hard on the man...
|
lol, you should listen at us
How many times and how many people have allready said that "this or that" would ruin the Odd? The fan base's still there |
I read what you said. Yes, some of the pics of the buildings does give back odd. In fact, they're pretty cool.......
|
Ofcourse the buildings look cool. Oddworld always had its way with doing great structures. It's the characters that mess it up a bit. Human like characters just don't belong on Oddworld.
Also... is this just me or does the art for this game look damned much like concept art for Stranger? |
Yea, it does. 'Specially the town. Well, actually, the town looks like New York city, to my POV. But yeah, a lil' concept from Stranger's Wrath.
|
:
And yeah, it does look kinda like concept art from SW. |
:
|
Yeah, they're cool. But Fangus looks a bit like an old Greek hero...
And those backgrounds, They look erm... Odd enough for me. And they're dark too. I like them. :) The only thing I hateD about it wás that Fangus useD guns. Guns suck. :p Thank you Xavier for letting me know first!:P |
Meh...those guns looked purdy cool teh me.
|
Originality ROCKS!
Nah, the good guys don't use guns in Oddworld, they have weird stuff...like living creatures and a crossbow...anyway, the backgrounds look okay, I like those, it's just the characters, just like Havoc said, and Dark Elite's right too, humans being main characters in OW would really suck, it wouldn't be too bad if there were human-like creatures as a cameo, but for the main guy...nah.
Hey, and that's another thing. I've never seen anything female in Oddworld, and even if they are female characters, all the main characters are masculine. It's about time there was a heroine instead of hero! :D |
I love the industrial city-like shots, but everything else is horribly human. Weapon and creature design totally lack the Oddworld ingenuity and charm. I must say, while I'm sure Fangus had some great potential, such a deviation from the charming, cute-but-ugly Oddworld formula could have been a big mistake for OI.
But we'll see what happens. It just seems so different from Abe, Munch, and Stranger that it ruins the quintiessential uniqeness that was present in Oddworld's last 4 games. But thanks, Xavier, the pictures are great and interesting, and it's good to know that Fangus was more than just a passing dream. Oh, and here's some cool stuff that Silvio drew. Many of the characters looked like they were scrapped Oddworld ideas, so check them out if you wish. |

The human characteristics of... well... everything make me think that this project was merely a spin-off from the rumor of "Citizen Siege."
As in, the were making a game which took place on Earth (which would be where this concept art came from), then they most likely turned around and decided it could work on OW, hence the big panther guy and demonic sheep. |
:
BUT she forgot about the coolest grubb there is (and which I think can be called a Hero) Frayda Evrything(native resistance leader). She's female.;) :
Otherwise it'd be "Hera". :p Xavier Rox!:P Edit: :
Blame the guns.:| |
:
|
Yeah. And big bro, I can see the dark typin' yeh did. :p
There are female characters, like Clakkers and Grubbs. And isn't the Rebel leader a heroin? |
I Mean For The Main Character
Yeh but even if the Grubb (Frayda Everything?) was a female hero person, the story was still revolving around Stranger, who is in fact male. So what I want to know is when are we going to see a storyline revolving around someone female? :D
But yer all right with the female characters, they are about! ;) |
:
:
:
:
Edit: I see that we're straying off topic... |
:
Well, I figured that the Rebel leader was a hero as well 'cause she saved the Grubbs from the Wolvarks and other things before Stranger came along. (I believe) So, I say she's a hero. :) |
I know this has been raoised many times before, but I would actually like to see what a female mudokon (other than Sam) looks like. It could be cool if one appeared/starred in a game, as it'd be very different to the other games. Although would it actually be a 'female' mud, or a normal mud with more female traits and personality characteristics? And don't ask me anything about Stranger's Wrath, I for some reason have yet to get the game.
|
:eeek: Munch's? You don't have Stranger's Wrath?
Kinda wanna warn yeh, kinda a spoiler in 'ere. Well, it's sparkin'. Heh. (Unless you've watched someone play SW) |
Well, I barely know the story anyway, i have a rough idea but, it doesn't matter if there' a spoiler, as it probably won't mean anything to me. And call me Munch, Munch's sounds a bit...odd (no pun intended). Also we're reeaalllly off topic.
|
Sorry...kinda surprised me...
Anyways, I still keep with me that the Rebel leader's a heroin...sorry if I repeat myself.. |
Hmm. This is obviously early-Fangus Klot, it looks nothing like the magazine scan we saw.
In fact, this could well be concepts for a game based in America, 2200 AD. On earth. With humans. Disappointing. Xavier, where did you get these pictures? I would guess from silvioaebischer.com, but you may have unknown sources. |
Interesting pictures, to say the least. I am so glad they dropped this. So, so glad. *sigh of relief* Look at Fangus, I mean just look at him! As a character, fine. As an Oddworld character however...ick. I'm not about to say that Oddworld should have only weak characters. I'm sure they have the ability to make us care and pity a powerful character, and for reasons other than the usual (the standard loss of family at baddy's hands). But for the sake of all things sweet and chocolatey, let us not forget the first three letters of the world this game was to be set in. O-D-D. Odd. Citizen Siege: not set on Oddworld i.e. humans are expected. Fangus: set on Oddworld. There's that word again! Odd! Odd: unusual, out of the ordinary. I can't imagine a human (call him what they will, that's what he is/was) on Oddworld, and don't want to. Though, as MG just said, these are early pictures, as we can see from the differene from the magazine scan. Anyway, if they were considering putting something as human and genericly (sp?) macho as that (the Fangus from Xavier' pics) in the game...I shall repeat myself and say I'm glad it isn't happening. It has to be said though, from where I'm standing, that enterance looked great!
|
Yeah. And I kinda agree with the fact that Fangus is kinda like an outsketch of Stranger. The first time, I thought Fangus was going to come out before Stranger's Wrath, because I saw how Fangus turned out to be shaped like Stranger. Ain't I right?
|
:
We saw the first sketch of Fangus after SW was released... how did you think that it would be released before a game that already was released? |
Oh wait...OH @#%$! Sorry, fer the confusion....What I meant to say was that I think Fangus is an outline of Stranger. That's all I wanted to say. Better?
