And I bet we won't even ban him...

You know who I mean.

And I think that the whole reason he's here is because he thinks he can get away with this behaviour. So my suggestion; take a hard line with trolls as a deterrant to would-be trolls.

Rich 06-25-2005 01:52 PM

Make a petition (poll) asking people if he should be banned. Then, if the modal answer is yes, tell Alcar to sort the dude out.

MojoMan220 06-25-2005 02:01 PM

After hours of thoughtful reflection, I must regretfully vote yes on a banning of Conker_Rocket.

Dino 06-25-2005 02:22 PM

That seems a bit rediculous, but sure, why not.

A poll it is. Uh, but since I can't actually add a poll to this thread, how about we just get people to say yes or no in this thread?

Oddish 06-25-2005 02:33 PM

I would vote No for now, no need.

He's just an nine-year-old Kid. A newbie aswell, so I say we wait until he's not seen as a newbie and then we'll see how he's getting along with the rules. Don't think banning new people is going to make this place better.

Conker_Rocket 06-25-2005 02:34 PM

I will stop making pointless threads. I will NEVER DO IT AGAIN.

Conker_Rocket 06-25-2005 02:36 PM

Thank you

Holy shit, he breaks the rules right after Oddish said we should give him another chance! We've given him plenty of warnings, yet he persists. I'm sorry, but someone this oblivious to the rules and basic logic, could not possibly contribute any meaningful discussion to these forums.

Dino 06-25-2005 06:28 PM

Oddish I don't really think that you're in any position to comment on anything relating to this guy. You're so damn naive it's a wonder that you ever notice anything at all, let alone the fact that you're playing right into this guy's hands.

I just... can't believe how everyone is missing the obvious. If this guy really is 9 years old, how do you think he manages to type better than stingbee? And how do you think he managed to find this thread in the FS&H forum, when he made a ton of posts in OT that should've been in FS&H? It's such an unlikely coincidence.

This guy is a troll who has deliberately falsified his birthdate to give himself a license to act like a moron and piss everyone off but not get banned for it. OWF is one big soft touch that trolls are just taking advantage of.

Leto 06-25-2005 06:35 PM

And all of the trolls are probably Maxk/Codek/Death/Stingbee/Whatever the ****.

Ban Conker_Rocket, I mean, 6 or so threads in Off Topic? 5 of them just Stupid Answers for Stupid Questions knock offs.

No OWF for minors. It should be an M-15 site. Well, M-13. Just some sort of age barrier!

I am 9 years old. I swear. I probabally type better than stingbee because I am smarter. If I was an adult, why would I be saying I'm a kid? I am 9 years old!

Leto 06-25-2005 06:50 PM

It's called being a paedophile, my son. Or just a forum troll. Many people do it.

SeaRex 06-25-2005 07:19 PM

There is no reason for further discussion on the matter. I've brought the matter up with Alcar (in my own special way) via the Employee Lounge, although he hasn't responded... or been around much lately, for that matter.

Well, regardless, it's pretty obvious that there are enough of us (yes, myself included) howling for his blood to warrant our one and only resident admin to look into the situation. Punishment will be dealt where punishment is due... or something. Look, I'm sure Peter will do something when he comes around. Until then, there is nothing that anyone can do anyway.

It would be nice if we had another active Admin/Super Mod, considering Peter seems to have a busy schedule.

You're not 9 years old. 9 year olds collect yu-gi-oh cards, type in txt-spk, make improper use of and/or simply omit commas. You however type perfectly, act like an idiot, then suddenly start behaving yourself. You're clearly too intelligent to be 9, and too intelligent to've been acting like an idiot through genuine idiocy.

The reason you're saying that you're 9, is because you believe that being young gives you an excuse to act like a retarded child. But in order for that to be true, you must first ensure that you're a good enough actor to pull it off with any degree of believability, and unfortunately for you, you're lacking skill in that department.

The sad part of it is that you are probably a perfectly nice person. You seem intelligent, able to type very well, etc. The truth is you would probably make a very good member if you just came clean, apologised, and admitted your age. I for one would leave you alone and have respect for you if you actually did that. But something tells me that you're going to keep up the act, either because you're a coward or because you've not had enough of messing with us yet.

Rich 06-26-2005 12:08 AM

Notice, everyone, that we don't kick the shit out of idiots, but democratically **** them over instead. I doubt that anyone will be banned because of a petition and since he does seem to be making progress I think I'll leave him be.

Alcar 06-26-2005 05:42 AM

I'm going to be very mean and act exactly like the United Nations would if presented with such a problem. I'm going to write him a nasty letter (or PM in this case) asking him to read the rules.

I'm such a hard-ass.

Alcar...

Scary?, *shiver* you really are mean Alcar... :D

Rex Tirano 06-26-2005 06:48 AM

Hard-ass? That could be debated ;):p

I don't think he should ban him, because whether or not he is 9 years old, he is still a newbie. But, I'll pass judgement in a week or so because he has only been a member for 2 days. He might *shape-up*.

MojoMan220 06-26-2005 09:45 AM

I feel like I'm reading a script from an episode of Full House. Somebody get me the bucket...

Kimon 06-26-2005 10:22 AM

I have no trouble believing that he's 9. Intellegence is not neccessarily a trait inherited by age.

Despite that, though, he has broken the forum rules quite a few times with stupid (and redundant) threads, and if doesn't change his behavior soon, then a ban is in order.

AquaticAmbi 06-26-2005 10:32 AM

Heh, how long have you been dying to make this thread, Dino?

In a way, I think there should be at least a five day grace period in general for all new members with some exceptions, such as this situation. Obviously, he's not 9 and is trying to piss us off on purpose. This would apply to the average new member who may make a big mistake or two. And I'm not a supporter of the age barrier, seems too ageist. In fact, it is ageist. I'm sure Alcar wouldn't be too fond of such a suggestion. That big ol' softy.

Also, I concur that we are definitely in need of an additional Super Mod and possibly a new OT Mod too--one that no one hates. ;)

big bro boogie 06-26-2005 10:41 AM

You mean you... right?
Or is it just me?

MojoMan220 06-26-2005 10:46 AM

If he just so happens to be an intellegent 9 year old, why is it that he cannot follow simple instructions? I don't know, I guess we'll never be able to find out anyway.

Rich 06-26-2005 10:47 AM

There's loads of people who'd want that job. Alcar would have to hold another mod election. There'd be some serious competition.

Kimon 06-26-2005 11:06 AM

:

Well, the intellegence I was referring to was that of grammar and written word, not of common sense and understanding.

But that's a good question nonetheless.

Um, i propose a secret ballot in the employee lounge. As us mods, ex-mods, and SMODs are superior to all of you. Yes.

Rich 06-26-2005 12:35 PM

:

ex-mods
Lol, that was a long time ago and you were only the RPG mod. Can you still get into the employee lounge?

Dipstikk 06-26-2005 01:06 PM

I'm still waiting for someone to join who absolutely despises Oddworld, and just comes here to bother us fans.

I'm waiting for it so I can tear him apart verbally. No, wait. So we can ALL tear him apart verbally.

I don't know the guy, only that he's a young newbie and didn't understand the way things work here. The main point is that he's now not spamming and not causing trouble anymore, I thought that was the whole point of this situation. However if he contuines to spam and cause more trouble, he'll face the consequences.

:

That's true. I mean why would someone join an oddworld forums if they have no interest in oddworld what so ever and only want to post threads in the GD. Unless they know someone who is an oddworld fan.

Dino 06-26-2005 02:13 PM

:

Heh, how long have you been dying to make this thread, Dino?

Well, let me put this to you so you can see it from my point of view.

I like being on this forum, hanging out with the peeps, debating shit, you know, just talking stuff over and it's all cool. And, you know what they say about where you hang out right? That it respresents who you are? Well it's like that for me, I consider a forum to be part of my identity... whether that identity is internet only or RL and internet.

That's why I get fed up when I see that I'm part of a forum that has so many idiots on it, and is so lax on the rules that any old halfwit troll can take us for a ride by imitating the other idiots. It doesn't look good on me, you know what I'm saying? But I still love this place, so I can't just leave - my only other option is to just try to get something done about it. I kinda predicted the outcome of this right from the beginning, but I feel I've raised an important point. Not one about how we treat ignorant newbies (although I think we should be a little less complacent about that), but how we set a precedent for dealing with trolls masquerading as ignorant newbies. I don't want us to look like we're so gullible that we'll fall for that shit every time. Because if we look gullible, that's just like a homing becon for more trolls to come and make us look lame and feel lame.

Can you see where I'm coming from here? (and don't say the loony bin, that isn't funny)

AquaticAmbi 06-26-2005 03:55 PM

I will admit that is one of the most logical reasonings you've said, Dino. HOWEVER (yes, a very big however), I don't believe for a second that any sincerity exists in that post. Someone who would ever say things about this forum in a post like this. What I'm talking about starts around the middle to the end.

In fact, you state that you like neither us nor Oddworld. You are the member that Dipstikk has been waiting for.

And even if you use your anger/frustration as a justification for what you said in that post, I would never want someone who would let their emotions take such control over him to be entrusted with mod powers.

Dipstikk 06-26-2005 04:38 PM

:

Disclaimer: Her words, not mine.

Dino 06-26-2005 08:07 PM

Ambi, if you're refusing to see things from my point of view, then that's your problem, not mine. All it does is gives you very little credibility when commenting on my motives.

I've tried to explain things and you're still finding excuses to carry on causing me grief, so it obviously isn't worth continuing. All I'm going to say is that if I didn't like this place, then I certainly wouldn't stay to put up with your shit. I've said and done things that I've regretted, some because of other people, and some because of me simply making mistakes. Nobody is perfect, not even moderators, because behind that title sits a human being, who is just as fallable as I am - the only thing we can do to make the situation better is to learn from our mistakes - and I'm not about to make this thread another situation that I have to learn from.

The topic of this thread is how we discern and treat trolls masquerading as ignorant newbies, and is not a discussion about my motives for posting this thread. I'm not about to prioritise defending my namesake over improving the state of this forum, so can we please all try to stay on track?

Alcar 06-27-2005 05:18 AM

If we elect a new Super Moderator, it'll be done via the Employee Lounge - only because I'm finding it difficult to decide who would be the best person to do the job (and that's before even discussing it with Abe Babe, as I'm sure she'd have some problems deciding too). Another OT Mod sounds good. In fact, I'm going to remove all the inactive Moderators and replace them (or not, if there is no need). We've been far too lenient with many Moderators.

Prepare for some elections sometime soon. Nag me on MSN if they're not here within a week or two. Or better yet, try to get me to do them this Friday - I'd like my School Holidays (finally!) to be free of drama, etc, etc.

Alcar...

Rich 06-27-2005 08:28 AM

Super Mod = Hobo. ;)

Mod elections, yay. Sounds fun, who exactly are you going to axe to make room for the new peeps?

:

Not strictly true, I think he likes some of us. ;)

Hobo 06-27-2005 12:15 PM

He has a good point...

And the OT mod position sounds like my bag too..

Infact, move over Peter.

Rex Tirano 06-27-2005 12:30 PM

Charlie, can I be your bizzatch*? :)

A supermod would have to be someone like Xav, Al or Maxy [if and when he comes back] because they've been here for years and are level headed and respected.

And a new OT mod *coughs* ;)

*a mod's bizzatch is like a mod but with more bizzatchness

Why is this suddenly a discussion about moderators again?

Are you testing me or something? Why is there so much mention of moderators around me?
