Oddworld's next project

Here is the place to report any rumors about Oddworld's next project.

According to bizjournals.com

:

Lanning says the company is in talks with several media conglomerates to create the first Oddworld movie and "Citizen Siege," a new title that may appear first on film, television or in games.
the complete article is over here:

Munch's Master 06-18-2005 05:28 AM

Cool, and oddworld movie! I hope it's released here in the UK! If so I can't wait! Also here's something I found interesting:

:

Oddworld will stay in the game business by potentially offshoring some of its labor and hiring small local shops to build any new titles.
So does this mean we may yet see the Oddworld games return? I am really exited either way.

Xavier 06-18-2005 06:12 AM

yeah... oddworld actually never said there wont be no oddworld games at all
they just said they will stop producing them themself.

oddguy 06-18-2005 08:18 AM

Pretty cool stuff. I can't wait to get more details on the movie. :D

Al the Vykker 06-18-2005 08:29 AM

This is definately good news. I've always been waiting for that Oddworld movie, is there anymore information on either that or this new "Citizen Siege," thing?

Abe16 06-18-2005 11:02 AM

I can't wait for the movie, if they're gonna come through of course. God i hope they come through,

Oddworld90 06-18-2005 11:17 AM

The movie would be class but I really hope we see some more Oddworld games.

Nepharski 06-18-2005 02:02 PM

An Oddworld film, you say? Righteous. I'll ready the popcorn maker.

Dipstikk 06-18-2005 02:20 PM

"Lorne's work already sets the stage for any other publisher or comic publisher or cartoon network to step in and touch a familiar nerve with a large part of the public."

Ooh, like as in comic books?

Let's just hope the artists don't fuck up the anatomy of the Mudokons too much. You wouldn't believe how hard they are to draw accurately.

And on the topic of Cartoon Network: I'm not sure Oddworld is suited for CN, what with the head honchos of the place wanking off to new shows such as HiHi Puffy Yami Yumi and Krypto (both of which are discraces to modern televi--wait, you can't really discrace a discrace, can you?).

Maybe on Adult Swim, seeing as The Venture Brothers provides such a great mix of action and comedy (which is exactly what Oddworld is, and I love it because of it).

I also hope for a re-make of whatever game the movie will follow. Even thogh nothing can replace the origonal, of course. ;)

Ariona 06-18-2005 03:48 PM

An Oddworld movie? That sounds great ... I hope, it will release in Germany, too... ^^ I'm looking forward to this movie... :) :)

Kimon 06-18-2005 05:46 PM

Oddworld movie = That's pretty groovy.

I should be a songwriter. :D

Anyway, I hope they go back to the dark (but comedic) roots of AO. That'd be Supa-Cool.

panuru 06-18-2005 08:57 PM

I'm getting extremely bored of their slapstick humour; like the Clakkerz and Outlawz in Stranger's Wrath, the toon-y sound effects and cheap jokes in Munch's Oddysee, and of course all the groin shots to Abe.

Oddworld anything would be great, but I agree with Kimon that they need to keep to the dark and twisted Oddworld comedy.

The Marching Mudokon 06-18-2005 10:06 PM

Oddworld movie and Citizen Siege? Sound promising. But like Panuru said, I hope they keep to dark and twisted comedy rather than the slapstick comedy.

Nepharski 06-18-2005 11:22 PM

Indeed, I concur.

andy86 06-19-2005 04:06 AM

Can you have dark and twisted slap-stick comedy? Cos that would be cool. I think. Just not like childish slap-stick, assuming there is some other kind.

Oddish 06-19-2005 09:31 AM

Great find Xav!

That is super news, that were more sure about the whole Movie and games stuff going on. And it's great that Lorne chose a brilliant place for the best quality animations for his projects, it suits oddworld. If oddworld were to do a game it would most likely be Citizen Siege, which wouldb be a cool idea.

I don't know if you have it in the US, but in UK I know a channel call Toonami, which I think are the same comany as CN. Toonami has more darker animations than the CN.

And a comic publisher? That dose sound cool, it would probably mean that oddworld won't rather do books, since comics gives more visuals and drawing.

An Oddworld Movie and Citizen Siege it is.

OANST 06-19-2005 10:35 AM

Toonami isn't a channel in the U.S. but it is a programming block on CN. They show it for about two hours a day.

Oddish 06-19-2005 10:41 AM

Yeah, we used to have same as that, it later become it's own channel. Toonami's channel used to be CNX, was more cooler I thinks.

Munch's Master 06-19-2005 11:01 AM

So do you think if an Oddworld animation was made then it'd be on Toonami here in the UK and Adult Swim in the US (Whatever Adult Swim is, as far as I know we don't have it here. )

Nepharski 06-19-2005 11:30 AM

Adult Swim is a night block on CN featuring supposedly more, "Mature," cartoons not for the eyes of the youngsters (They watch it anyway). Moving right along, I hope it's not on Adult Swim for one and only one reason: My parents have a somewhat overbearing, "No TV past 11," thing going on. Sometimes I catch the first few minutes of The Daily Show or whatever, but my point is that if it's on too late, I'll never be able to watch it...not till I'm on my own, anyway.

Xavier 06-19-2005 12:41 PM

tape it...

anyway I hope they wont do something that will only be shown in the US...
I have Cartoon network at home but not the Abult Swim stuff you guys are talking about.

I'm excited about the fact Citizen Siege is still planned

Oddish 06-19-2005 01:06 PM

If Citizen Siege would be to be made as a movie/ TV shows , since it's based on Earth, I wounder if they would use real actors or 100% CGI. Or it may be animation like drawings, but I would pefer if it's all done in CGI like Advent Children. Or it may turn out to be all done in Playdo/clay :P. (or even puppets...)

Xavier 06-19-2005 01:09 PM

Ã*la Sin City would be perfect...
real actors in a CG world, that what would fit Citizen Siege the best I think

Nepharski 06-19-2005 02:01 PM

Obviously a good idea, but it would suceed or fail based on how late the show is. Tapes don't just run forever.

Whatever. They'll probably just make it a movie, so I'm worrying about nothing. I'll wait until it's on late before I get annoyed.

KintoKid 06-20-2005 01:14 AM

When they said 'cartoon network' notice it wasn't capitalized.

I'm pretty sure they meant cartoon networks in general, not the specific channel. This isn't to say that Cartoon Network itself isn't a possibility, I just think they were touching on the different mediums that Oddworld may be served to us in in the future.

Scrab Watcher 06-20-2005 09:33 AM

Yay! I hope this goes well for them so that we (and they) get our (and their) movie. It's great to have some news and not just to be sitting in the dark. And they're planning something for Citizen Siege too! Not necesserily soon, but eventually. I'm not so excited about the tv thing, but I'm just glad for some confirmation that they are moving in a forward direction. This may not work out, but then again it may. Abe shall grace the silver screen yet!

Mudokon Princess 06-22-2005 12:26 PM

This Citizen Siege sounds rather interesting, splendid!

panuru 06-29-2005 11:14 AM

It's starting to seem to me that Lorne has lost his vision.

Xavier 06-29-2005 11:28 AM

having another vision doesn't mean he has lost the first one.
Lorne can handel more then a single one.

I still have Faith in Lorne

Munch's Master 06-29-2005 02:00 PM

I'm losing faith in him. If we don't get official and definite info. in the form of a statement by the company, either by TV or the official site or whatever by Autumn, then I think that Oddworld is sadly dying if not dead. But that's if we don't get definite, official information, not regardless.

Wil 06-29-2005 02:14 PM

Why this autumn? What if you compltely lose interest because of your own deadline, and then OWI launches their next project. It's obviously going to take some time for Lorne to be able to confirm whatever will come next, so just keep yourself busy in the meantime and don't spend each day waiting for an announcement, is my advice.

Just seems a bit silly to lose faith after no stimulus.

Oddish 06-29-2005 02:15 PM

It's probably hard for Lanning, becuase he take his visions and ideas and storys very serously, and badly dosn't want to mess up. He probably thinks something might work, but then it might not. Giving us offcial information on something Lorne is planning and it dosn't work out , then he'll have lots of complates becuase he didn't promise us what he had planned. Lorne dosn't want to do something which he thinks is not going to turn out great, so he dosn't do that idea at all. He dosn't tell us offocial information becuase he isn't sure if it will be succesful, if he tells us ,then he's taking risks that oddworld fans will think he's broken too many promises becuase he didn't make these plans happen. Lorne like us, want these ideas to happend like us fans want (well most of us) ,but he's the one who's gunna work for it and make it happen. Lorne lanning has crazy big ideas, which will not be easy to pull in todays industy's, hence the dissapointment and loss of MO lanning visioned.

panuru 06-29-2005 03:58 PM

I'm not losing faith in Lorne, but I do believe it's starting to seem as though he's lost his vision.

He's getting caught up in new things and distracted by others. This might very well be for the better, but it seems true none the less.

Xavier 06-30-2005 01:53 AM

I'm thinking the politic in his country made him realize he wanted to do something more controversial, thus "Citizen Siege".

he will come back after having spit his anger back to Oddworld.
but I think he can handel more than only one project at a time.

and I agree with oddish, if Lorne tells us what's in his mind now and then can't do it, some will complain about the fact he didn't end up doing them.

The thing we have to do now is keep ourselves busy until there is news
and news wont come before many months I suspect.

Scrab Watcher 06-30-2005 03:41 AM

It's a lose-lose situation really with the official announcements on the site. If he doesn't tell us possible plans, then there will be complaints of him leaving us in the dark. If he does tell us possible plans which don't work out, then there will be complaints of him lying.

Until anything is completely rock solid then I think he would be best not to say anything on the site. There is a difference in having something announced on the site and talking about it as a possibility in an article.

No, I think you might have misunderstood me. What I meant was if I don't get some news by then, I'll doubt that the movie will apear anytime soon. And I do keep muyslef busy, I am not just waiting for an announcement. Although I do want to hear something official from OWI soon.

misty 06-30-2005 10:30 AM

wow, I really hope they go through with the oddworld movie. It sounds good, and I would hope that it would be good. I'll go to OWI tomarrow and see if Bonnie can tell me anything.

Xavier 06-30-2005 10:55 AM

you lucky being... I wish I lived so close too
so there still Bonnie working for OWI?

misty 06-30-2005 11:05 AM

Heck yea, Bonnie Teuton is still there. I'm glad that I live so close aswell. I really dont know what I'd do if I didnt (other than wish I did). lol.

Xavier 06-30-2005 11:12 AM

How many people are still there?
They are busy moving to Bay Area right?
