How Many Of You Keep And Replay Your OW Games

Now i like Odd world alot, and at one stage i did have the accessebility to play Abes Oddyssey and Exodus, but the owner got rid of em, and i have played Munches Oddyssey and Strangers Wrath, my question is how many of you own every OWI game, and how often do you pull them out and play or do they just sit there as part of a collection?

AWWW 03-07-2005 11:05 PM

Hi Viroxide and welcome to the forums, I see you are located in Australia just like me.

Yeah I own all the Oddworld game from Abe's Oddysee(PSX) to Stranger's Wrath and I still have them all. :D
The first 2 Oddworld games are in not too good conditions as I played them to death when I first brought them. After Munch's Oddysee came out I have played each game about once a year.

Any reason you wanted to know this??

Viroxide 03-08-2005 12:13 AM

Yeah because, i kinda want the whole Oddworld Inhabitants set, especially the whole quintology, but at the same time i dont, so pretty much this is just a way to help me make up my mind :)
It will be hard to get Abes games now, but my major delema with oddworld games especially Munch and Stranger is that they arnt long enough or challenging enough or varied enough.
In my mind a game that can be finished in less than 7 days playing less than 2 hours a day, that does not have fun and entertaining multiplayer, is not worth $100 (AUS).
So once i finished Munch and Stranger i took em back, because of that.
OWI games biggest down fall is lack of multiplayer, and most of their games are repeditive and become boring, Munch became boring too quickly, but i still love the concepts, characters, creatures and environments, so i stick at it to see the whole storyline.
I dont know im having trouble deciding to keep the games that i wont play very often just for their storyline and concepts, or just play em then get rid of em???

thatbluebastard 03-08-2005 12:22 AM

you should ask yourself after you've met and defeated my challenge in 'feat to end all feats'

multiplayer is not that huge of a feature.

goddamn, games didn't have multiplayer before XBAND, why should they now.

Viroxide 03-08-2005 12:33 AM

Why?
Because multiplayer is perhaps the greatest way to extend replay capabilities and varying game play.
Now that there is Xbox Live and whatnot multiplayer is a great influence on the replay capability of a game.
I would love to play an online RPG with all the different Oddworld Races, starting as a simple Gabbit and slowly evolving into a Gabbawog, or beggining as a simple Muddoken and eventually mastering Woodoo and summoning hordes of paramites, or even a Slip and eventually becoming a flying Big Bro slig.
Play in a game where the unique characters of oddworld mixxed with the ability to customise your character would leave players with a great variety of game play, and competivness is one form of fun.
Just think about the hours of fun matching your oversized gabbit against a few steefs, and archer expert Muddoken, a Slig BigBro and a few others like the Blisterz Booty species.

My point been i would love Odd world to go into xbox multiplayer mode, instead of the original Play Station single player mode.

Thank you!

I still have all mine and play the abe ones once in awhile and play the stranger one every other day.

panuru 03-08-2005 05:15 AM

As for owning all the Oddworld games, I certainly do. I'd also have to say that, of all the games I own that were released after 1995, I play my Oddworld games the most. Hell, I even own Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath, but I don't own an xBox! (**** Microsoft)

As for replay value, xBox multiplayer in Oddworld is stupid, useless, and unnecessary.

What OWI should have done was make the games two player optional just like the PSX games were. In Munch's Oddysee, you especially could have had the additional option of one player controlling Abe while the other controls Munch. The lack of option is just annoying. As for Stranger's Wrath, I'm extremely glad it doesn't have any of that multiplayer first person shooter crap. It's not about blowing up your friends with weapons, it's about getting thru the story of the world that OWI is offering you.

Actually, games used to always have multiplayer options (unless they were RPG's, usually) until multiplayer option died down in the late nineties when cookie-cutter 3D gaming took suffocated the value storyline and gameplay.

Games should be multiplayer (at least two player) to at very least offer the option of playing together instead of isolating people from one another... The old way though... xBand can suck Slig sausage.

Note: My girlfriend admits that if she could play as Munch while I played as Abe in Munch's Oddysee, she'd be more excited about playing the game.

Oddish 03-08-2005 08:27 AM

I have the official oddworld games, Abe's Oddysee, Abe's Exoddus, Munch's Oddysee, Stranger's Wrath. I just lovemthe feeling and it's fun.

And I'll keep em. Some times I play on my consoles, whenever.

yeah i keep them and play them often nothing is better then OWI's Games:)

Shinjara 03-08-2005 09:59 AM

Unfortunately I only own Abes Oddysee and Abes Exoddus. I have no XBox so yeah..

They do have replay value if thats what you want to know. I go back every month or so, or when I feel an urge to play and usually use the Level cheat *Slaps own wrist* to replay my all time favourite levels. I do have a saved game for each one, usually in the last section of the game.

Fuzzles! 03-08-2005 12:01 PM

I own AO, AE, MO, and SW and I would NEVER get rid of my Oddworld games! NEVER! Heck they are the only reason I bought a PSOne - to be able to play AO and AE.

I would love to be able to play MO multiplayer (one is Munch one is Abe) but you would lose so much of the story and game play by doing that.

i'm talking about online play.

and most games that were worth what you paid for them back then didn't even have two player.[commodore/NES days. even most SNES, aside from a few two-players.]

also, i bought Munch's Oddysee a few days ago, even though i do not own an xbox.

That's why I suggested co-op multiplayer... Not online. Where you both have to sit and play thru the game together. That way you're both experiencing the story together. Certainly, you'd miss out on playing as one of the two, but that's why you play it again and be the other character next time around.

:

I say sucks to online play on the games we have thusfar. Hand of Odd or an Oddworld MMORPG might be interesting enough... Maybe. As for online Stranger's Wrath (as I already said): "I'm extremely glad it doesn't have any of that multiplayer first person shooter crap. It's not about blowing up your friends with weapons, it's about getting thru the story of the world that OWI is offering you."

I recall countless multiplayer NES and SNES games that were worth the money I paid for them.

Great job! Me too. I'll probably buy an xBox someday but, for now, I still bought Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath anyway.

uhhhh.

seriously, when two-player was first around, it was in terrible games.

double dragon and super mario brothers were like the first two that were any good.

i second saying nuts to online play.

some games are good for it, but it shouldn't be the sole basis for buying a game.

most games i have that are memorable are one- or two-player.

besides my computer, i don't own any online games.

i'm kind of iffy about hand of odd. i'd get it, just because it's an oddworld game and i trust OWI, but i think the concept is iffy.

they should have made SligStorm though.

panuru 03-08-2005 03:32 PM

Difference in opinion then. Double Dragon and Super Mario Brothers definitely, but there were plenty of other great two player games besides those two. Especially in the late 80's, early 90's.

I'm interested in Hand of Odd just because I look forward to seeing what OWI would do with such a design. I'm not one for strategy games much, but I'd definitely give it a chance. I don't own/play any online games on console either. In fact, the only online games I ever got into were StarCraft and World of Warcraft. I actually like to imagine OWI will put Hand of Odd on PC, but somehow I doubt it.

Sligstorm would've been extremely fun. I agree, they should've made it. =(

thatbluebastard 03-08-2005 05:45 PM

did you ever play NetStorm? that game was hot.

i always envisioned Hand of Odd being something like that, but a bit more epic and a bit more massively multiplayer.

Well I am a massive fan of multi-player co-op. Like D&D Heroes, both Balder's Gate games, PSO online, The Sims, Gauntlet, X-Men Legends etc. So I'd be a huge fan of multiplayer co-op in an Oddworld game. I would just worry how it would work logistically, unless it was a split-screen co-op play (think Halo). Because the other games is a single-screen where all characters stay together. If it was this way, it would be very difficult to have Munch go deep within the water levels with someone else controlling Abe (actually it's impossible..major changes would have to happen). And a split-screen..I'm not a fan of this. It does work for FPS...but I think alot would be lost having the lush environments of Oddworld split like that. JMO.

Cloverfield 03-08-2005 07:25 PM

I'm not one to sell/return any of my games, even if I don't really like them. But I would never dream of getting rid of my Oddworld games. If for no other reason than to have them as part of my collection. I actually own the first two game more than once [different formats].

As for playing them again, I haven't played the older games for a while. I'm not much of a replay gamer in any case, although every so often I take them out again and play some levels just to have a fix of Oddworld.

I really don't care for multiplayer to be honest. I haven't got wrapped up in this whole "online" multiplayer thing like many people have. It really doesn't interest me at all. Sure, if Hand of Odd ever gets released, I'll buy it and play it. But if OWI never go down the multiplayer path, I really aren't phased.

Abe Babe...

Leto 03-08-2005 07:55 PM

Yes, myself being THE anti-social gamer, single player games fit right into place. The best thing imaginable is to shut the doors, curtains, and fridge, then make sure no other lights are on apart from the TV. Turn volume up to 100. Ho yah.

As with there being multiplayer games on the NES/SNES, *cough* Mortal Kombat, I and II? Best multiplaya games of da old skool. Except Doom, but it wasn't on SNES/NES, now was it?

My Oddworld games are played at least once a week. I just keep playing through AO and AE, and now, SW. (MO, overplayed, only Xbox game I had for a year and a half)

Viroxide 03-08-2005 08:12 PM

Well thanks for your input guys, but if i did go out and buy all the games for a collection the only ones i would play are AO and AE, because they were fun, fast paced, not too repeditive and involved skill and repetitive trys to get past a hard part. Now that was fun, extremely fun, but then the owner of the games got rid of em, because at the time i just got a PS2 and had GTA3 and he tells me he asked if i wanted any of em, so im guessing at the time i didnt appreciate the Oddworld games as much.
But now i want em, especially AO and AE which are so hard to find.
But as for MO i dont think i would play that again, it was easy, not too much skill required, very repeditive, but there were some good hard parts.
As for SW again very easy and repeditive, i was glad to see the whole bounty hunting thing ended halfway through when you became the steef, or rather when you starting playing like a steef instead of stranger (sorry for spoilers).
The only motive i have of keeping MO and SW is for the storyline and all the cool characters, creatures, environments, and quotes out of SW.
So that is my delema, i love everything about the games, except that they are over too quickly and leave me with very little replay value, on the other hand i want them as a collection, but i dont have lots of money, and i try to put what money i have to good use.
As for you opinions on multiplayer, thats fine, but i disagree, providing it is implemented well and doesnt ruin the story line, multiplayer, even online, is a very strong factor of a game.
As i said a Oddworld RPG with choices from many races would be amazing providing it didnt clash with the storyline.

Oddworld: Rivaled Oddities

But as you have all said you think its stupid, but personally customisation of characters is something i enjoy.

Leto 03-08-2005 08:33 PM

No- Character customisation is the sole reason for many of the games I play! It is the single best feature that could appear in any game! Morrowind, Morrowind, and Fable. Others, that are not listed, are far better, but I cannot recall them at this moment.

Fuzzle Guy 03-09-2005 12:37 AM

I have all of Oddworld Inhabitants Games:
AO: I play quite a lot, my favourite Video Game of All time
AE: Every Month
MO: Frequently, I love it
SW: I play every day.

OANST 03-09-2005 08:29 AM

Most certainly. I've lost track of how many times I have beaten AO and AE. I've beaten Mo probably about 11 or 12 times and SW 3 times so far.

ANN NEELY 03-11-2005 04:54 PM

I've kept all my games. I currently have not beat AO or AE (I DID help my Dad beat it, though).
I've beaten MO 12 times and SW nine times (Played two files on it at a time).

The Marching Mudokon 03-11-2005 07:05 PM

I still play AO and AE when ever I feel the urge to go back to Oddworlds roots (or if I left my Xbox at my mums). But yeah, I always replay my Oddwrold games.

I guess I could see character customizing working in an OW game. When I first saw your post I couldn't but now I think about it, it could work.

You could choose your species and then the required weapon and allocate stuff to your stats and that. So if your species was a Mudokon for example, you could become a Mudarcher or Tomahawker. And depending on the species you chose, you may have more/less stats in different areas.

Abe Babe...

Viroxide 03-11-2005 09:54 PM

Im glad you see my point now, and with character customisation should come competition. Making your own character is pride boosting enough, but when it beats up others, or works together with others, its just so much funner.
It would make an interesting game in my eyes, especially with the diversity and creativity of all the oddworld races.
Imagine a Gabbit archer which uses its foot and arms to hold the bow, and fires with its mouth, slow to reload but a strong and precise shot :).

Steefer 03-12-2005 12:36 AM

Yeah, that would be AMAZING to have that open ended Oddworld experiance.

But back on topic. I used to have a PS1 back when Abe's Exoddus came out and got Abe's Oddysee. I sold that stuff a little later and got an N64. To make a long story short, I recently bought a PS2 and felt like I was missing something. You know how it feels to have the geeky need to be attached to a certain franchise that you really could play for a long time? Like Final Fantasy? (even though I dislike all but FFII) Well, I started feeling that way after playing a lot of games that didnt really have too much substance or didnt have great mythos. I then remembered my little friend Abe.

I went out to the mall and found Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, bought em, bought Munch (which I havent played until now... besides the demo a long time ago) and Stranger. Now it is complete and I love it. I love this universe and I really couldn't see getting bored with this world. AND IT ISNT GEEKY LIKE EQ! So yeah, ontop of the topic of this thread, this is sort of my Intro. Hello everyone. Great ideas on here. OWI should check it out.

Fuzzles! 03-12-2005 05:55 AM

Well said Steefer, I agree completely, Oddworld is an amazing universe and I love getting lost in it...I LOVE all of my games! :D

And welcome to the forums!

Steefer 03-12-2005 10:18 AM

Heh, thanks. I agree with you agreeing with me completely, lol.

Abe the legend 03-12-2005 10:47 AM

I keep my Oddworld games, but the only one I would consider playing again would be Abe's Oddysee, because I never got the good ending (which doesn't even work when I enter the view FMVs cheat).

Steefer 03-12-2005 01:48 PM

The old ones are great but they can be so damn difficult sometimes!!!

AWWW 03-13-2005 12:59 AM

Same here, they are some of the hardest games that I ever played on the PSX.

Thinking over it now I don't know how I ever play through Abe's Oddysee with out qiucksaves...

Wow Steefer you are dame lucky to be able to just walk straight into a mall and get both PSX Oddworld games, especially in now what year;2005??

Customisation would be cool in a Oddworld game, but how do you want to be "added" to the game, as a bonus muitlplayer game (all FSP seems to have as a standard feature nowa days) or acually part of the main game, as a character that you create to aid the main character/is a online game??

mudling 03-13-2005 01:02 AM

i would definetly replay strangers wrath over and over again. and as for all the games? my long look for abes exodus will continue. when i'm board or stuck in an oddworld game, i result to my favourite CG movies.

Leeum 03-13-2005 01:35 AM

Every now and then on a Sunday i'll replay AO or AE, they're that good :)

Five 03-13-2005 02:08 AM

well...I have Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus only, because I don't have xbox to play the other games ( I hope that this soon would change)....but I keep replaying Abe's Oddysee ( my favourite levels, anyway). I can't play Abe's Exoddus, because it refuses to work on Windows XP :fuzmad:...stupid Windows XP..... but I have both games, and I would never get rid of them. Never! *bites*

Steefer 03-13-2005 02:34 AM

Actually AWWW, I got them used but yeah, it is lucky. Weird though that I can't find Soul Reaver or Soul Reaver 2 used ANYWHERE IN TOWN!

Chyros 03-15-2005 02:15 AM

Hello, and welcome! This is my first post as well, by the way.

I own the first two games, and I still play one or two chapters regularly (which I organised in lettered save games, for example "B-Stockyard Escape"). I also love the implemented option of viewing a movie clip (the cheat).
