Society- Too far?

Children dating. What is up with that? Children these days are being pressured/ saying it's ok to date, children under 10. 10, for christs sake.

Around my school, there is this annoying fat kid, Mike. Since he was about 11, he's been dating. Now, just for the record, I think this is so stupid.

Children aren't supposed to date- The purpose of dating is to mate. Sorry- not much love in my opinion. We humans, as a race, live to take part in the reproductive act. It is the point of existence- the meaning of life, if you will. There is no other point in life, which is really sad.

Anyway, the fact that children are now doing such things is an atrocious travesty of taste and decency. You can be in love, sure, just don't ****ing show us. Leave it until your at least 14, buddy.

This is me saying, 'society has gone too far'. If children think they need to date, they should kill themselves. You know, rid the world of their idiocy.

What do you thnk? Should these 'people' be allowed to date? I mean, 'children'.

Dino 02-18-2005 12:11 AM

Yeah that's weird. I didn't get a girlfriend till I was 14, and I consider that to be about the normal age to start.

Never seen it for myself though, so it must be a recent parenting trend.

Facsimile 02-18-2005 12:25 AM

Don't worry, most of the time their 'dating' is like a verbal contract, but nothing ever comes out of it, and they are too shy to talk to each other.
But yeah, it's stupid.

Jacob 02-18-2005 02:42 AM

Yeh, i agree with Facs, t'is more like a verbal contract.

I would and do, however, encourage social bonding among females and my brothers. Constantly reminding them that females are better than males.

This is because it is true. My evolutionary ladder prooves this. Yes.

Why is it then, that the majority of history's greatest people, are male? Is it just because we supress women so that they don't achieve?

Alcar 02-18-2005 03:42 AM

I started dating at around the age of nine or ten. It actually lasted for about a year, and I had a good time with my girlfriend. Since then, I've not really been interested, though I do enjoy the company.

And about female superiority. We are all equal. There are no two ways about it. Besides, everyone knows without women there would be no world :p

Alcar...

Jacob 02-18-2005 05:05 AM

'Is it just because we supress women so that they don't achieve?'

No, no particular reason. T'is just common knowledge Muffies are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder. With few exceptions.

Wil 02-18-2005 05:18 AM

Seeing pre-teens dating is always going to be weird. I'd say it's a biproduct of Western society entering a more sexually open age. This in itself is a good thing, but coupled with celebrity-worship and child-targeted commerce, it's had this knock-on effect. I don't know where I stand on that.

It's a shame that children won't be enjoying more innocence in their youth. They won't have as much to look back on fondly later in life. If they're developing true feelings, emotional and sexual, then fine. We shouldn't stiffle them. But if they're being coerced into it by peer pressure and the media (which is so obviously the case in many instances), then that's a bad thing.

The bottom line is that we should respect children and recognise them as human beings with the same rights, even if they are largely stupid and obnoxious.

TheRaisin 02-18-2005 10:54 AM

I think the whole thing is ridiculous. "Dating"? Are you kidding me? What, are a bunch of little ten-year-old boys taking little ten-year-old girls to the movies on the handlebars of their bikes? Yeah, children dating is weird and disturbing, but honestly, I can't imagine it actually happening. Now maybe they're just being friends, and this is fine, I would encourage it in fact, I think I didn't interact enough with girls when I was a kid and it took me until like seventh grade to just interact with girls in a friendly way. But seriously, it's not dating.

So when you say dating, Super Munch, what exactly does that entail? In regard to this children dating thing?

Interestingly enough, a little less than a year ago Japanese scientists figured out a way to create an entire generation of female lab mice without the use of male gametes. This would suggest that, if science advanced far enough, and if all sense of morality dried up, and if enough women really hated the opposite sex, women could theoretically take over the world and completely eliminate the need for men. Which might suggest that women are, in fact, "better" than men. But I don't really believe that. I like to think that all people are equal. Because they are.

Esus 02-18-2005 12:31 PM

I don't think it's particularly new or shocking. Children would (apparently) 'practise' or 'play' having sex in more prehistoric times such as the Ice Age.

However, I do think children are now pressurised in dating whilst they are too young to... Especially as most of these 'relationships' are just friendships.

Leto 02-18-2005 01:14 PM

The whole going to the movies 'n shit. Them trying to act mature/ blend in with the rest of us. Children dating is weird and disturbing- I mean, what the ****? This isn't really a new thing, but I just was bringing up the subject. Yeah, it's wrong and stupid, they should just conserve their, uh, innocence for a while. I mean 'til about 14, as previously stated.

That is scary. But then they world would have to be entriely lesbian. :fuzeconf: And in what way does this make women better than men? Except for the fact they could rule the known universe(Start planning, ladies... :p)? Although as you have said, everyone is equal.

I was gonna say something like this, but Max has taken it and amplified it ten times beyond whatever I could've done.

Mac the Janitor 02-18-2005 07:04 PM

All it is is childish curiosity.

Let them have fun, let them think they're dating.

It gives them a false sense of "grown-up"-ness and independence.

Just a stage, I say.

Any dating before age 16/17 is just silly and shouldn't be called dating.

Facsimile 02-18-2005 11:12 PM

The male chromozome (sp? I ****ing hate science) is actually... What's the word... Dying out. Not that it's actually dying, but scienticians have discovered that it is slowly being evolved out of us. It'll take thousands of years before it's gone though, so don't worry, as I doubt the human race will live that long.
Oh, and if anyone could translate what I've just said into good...age that would be nice.

Dino 02-19-2005 12:59 AM

I think what Facs is trying to say, is that we're all gradually turning into aphids.

Godlesswanderer 02-19-2005 07:38 AM

Giant, genetically deformed aphids.

Cyber-Slig 02-19-2005 07:42 AM

Interesting thread. All of my friends at school always ask ''When the hell are you gonna date someone?''. I give the same answer that I'm far too young. It's not like at my age, people can go to a pub, get drunk, go home and both people go upstairs for some fun. And I'm glad I don't. Everyone who sais that they date someone that I know, end up saying pervy things all the time, and they're shit in class.

I agree. There's not really any major harm to the kids who think they're dating, unless some strange peer pressurey situation arises. I remember back in middle school I would always be "going out with" someone new every other month or so, but we never actually went out anywhere. Like others said, it was just a verbal agreement. My innocence was in no way degraded. However, I do regret all the time I spent on such a silly thing instead of concentrating on more important things.

I think that's a little too high of an age standard though; I'd say 14 is better since that's at least when high school starts here. That's when my first and only real relationship began, anyway; I turned 17 merely a few weeks ago, and it's still going. On the other hand, I do admit I was still pretty immature at the beginning... So maybe you're right and I'm just a special case.

Ah, no, I should have worded that better. I believe it's possible to have a healthy, enjoyable relationship at that age, I just don't think it should be called dating, since most of it is restricted purely to the school environment, i.e. holding hands walking to math class, making out in the hallways, etc. Believe me, I had my fair share of junior high relationships, and I think it's good for personal development, but the name "dating" is misleading. I mean, if neither of the two can drive..."dating"?

But yeah - age 14 relationships = valid in some cases, but not dating to me. I'm just weird like that.

Alpha 02-19-2005 01:07 PM

Good point kid's date to young. They have no money for proper dating and cover it up by "meeting " each other.

Weird, ok. But why is it distrubing? Just becouse you don't see it a lot or becouse its something thats starting to come up there past few weeks, months, years or whatever doesn't mean its distrubing.

Way to much I see humans mark something as weird, sick distrubing or not right becouse they simply don't understand it or becouse it doesn't fit the patern they call 'normal behavior'.
I can know this cuz people tend to mark me the same way for reasons I would like to keep for myself.

Anyway, I realy hate it when ppl mark someone els as weird becouse that persone doesn't follow the lines you follow yourself.
We as a species are no longer bound to instincts, therefor its wise to remember that there is not a steady patern you can define to a human being.
With animals you can say: that and that animal mark their territory that way while the others don't have a territory at all. Thats general behavior of that specific species becouse their instinct tells then to do that. If an animal doesn't follow that pattern then you can say its disturbing or weird. But since humans don't have an instinct anymore you can't say something is weird or distrubing exept from your own lifestyle point of view. [/end of rant, that came out way to long :P]

Now, on to the subject at hand. Children dating...
First you gotta ask yourself, what does a preteen see as dating? For all you know one thinks taking a girl back home is already a date. But when we hear the word date we think of a fancy restaurant and candle light followed by a long night of steamy sex. The age is a big diffrence in more then one way, keep that in mind.

Quite frankly, gap-toothed 10 year olds, kissing their bf/gf with braces disturbs me. Its not them- it;s what they do. Keep it to youselves if your actually doing this, people... We (Well, I), quite frankly, don't wish to know at this particular moment.

I completely agree with this statement. I use computers, and I like music. So for some bizzare reason, at school I'm the Computer Goth guy. :fuzconf: Plus, well, I sort of hate everyone. And more reasons that shall not be stated here.

I'm not calling them weird, just what they do... Just dont think about it.

Yes. I can't see childran taking their 'mate' out to dinner at a fancy resturant, though. For monetary reasons. They'd prolly go to the movies until they're 18, then will go clubbing... So is life. Well, among the mediocre teen society, that is.

Just for the record, no offense was intended by this post. I don't like being enemies, mmkay?

Ah, it was a mere matter of the name and definition. Well, what about parents giving the kids rides to their dates? Before Luke could drive, one of our parents always dropped us off at wherever we wanted to go. Hell, they still even do that sometimes for certain reasons, such as bad traffic or other bad driving conditions.

thatbluebastard 02-20-2005 01:52 AM

i've been dating since i was pretty young.

the thing is that in nature, love isn't so much a prerequisite.

with humans, in particular, it is. ergo it becomes necessary to find your 'soulmate' by trial and error.

so sure, i condone it, as long as it isn't completely tactless.

i don't want to see 10-year olds doing this:

http://hammeroftruth.com/images/arti...eacharound.jpg

for serious.

i'll send them to their aunty and uncle in Bel-Air.

TheRaisin 02-20-2005 09:37 AM

You rock with the mad funny. Fo' real.

But I don't think a person is supposed to find their soul mate when they're ten . . .

And even if they do, do they really need to go out for that? They're ten. Are they really going to talk about anything on a "date" that they wouldn't talk about on the playground? It seems like being friends with someone can tell one more than enough to know if one is really interested. Of course I could be wrong. I have no experience, per se, in this matter. :p No wait, that's not it. :| That's more like it.

I agree. I'm of the opinion that children don't actually date and shouldn't actually date.

Your Cousin dates your Grandma at a leisure complex? Are you a Redneck?

Alpha 02-20-2005 09:56 AM

TheRaisin 02-20-2005 09:56 AM

Yes. Yes, he is stupid. Children are people too, but they're foolish, annoying, unsanitary little incomplete people that don't deserve our respect.

But what in god's name does this mean: "sorta he get's his grandmother to liesure plex"? Klaktu barada nikto? Nanu-nanu? Hablas ingles?

Alpha 02-20-2005 10:01 AM

TheRaisin 02-20-2005 10:01 AM

I'm sorry, I'm not from the future. What is a leisure plex? Do they have telescreens there? Is Big Brother watching me?

Havoc 02-20-2005 10:04 AM

I think its like a mall or something :P

Your absolutely right about kids btw Raisin, kids are hell! Everything underneath the age of 12 is to be conciderd a terrorist threat :P.

What is a leisure plex?
I'm guessing leisure plex is a Leisure Centre near where this Grandma-Dater lives.

Alpha 02-20-2005 10:06 AM

It's a kind of Arcade in Ireland. It's filled with arcade games and blowling allies and brill fun stuff like that.
If you ever go to Ireland head to your nearest liersure plex now!

TheRaisin 02-20-2005 10:07 AM

Thank you, Alpha. Phew. It was that simple. An arcade. Man, you've got some crazy lingo. "Leisure Plex". I thought the UK was going all Brave New World or something for a second there. Five-year-olds going to the "Leisure Plex" . . . doesn't sound right.

Look how much space we've taken up with our talk of Leisure Plexes! Wow!

Rich 02-20-2005 10:12 AM

:

1. What is a Leisure Centre? 2. Is it the UK equivalent of a mall? A mall is a large building with many small retail outlets selling all kinds of overpriced crap. They usually also have several small food and drink vendors such as Orange Julius and Ivar's. Is that your "Leisure Centre"?
1. A Leisure Centre is a place where people go to do leisure activities. Mostly Sport where I live. The local one has a Swimming Pool, Tennis courts, Indoor Sports area ect...
2. No. A Mall would be a shopping centre or something...

The guy isn't refering to what I'm talking about.

Alpha 02-20-2005 10:13 AM

Hello , that's big!!.
So anyway who here think's that's dating or am I in denial?
