Mobile phones...

What's your take on mobiles?

Personally, I hate all of them except for mine. I just got this new Nokia 7280, which is the first new phone I've had in ages, because I really don't believe in mobile phones... I'd rather not risk losing my inner ear to cancer unless the phone justifies itself by improving my existance. That seems to be a pretty tall order for most phone manufacturers, but Nokia have got it just right with this one.

Anyways, I hate stupid ringtones, stupid mobile phone users, and stupid in general. And mobile phones seem to be magnetically attracted to stupid in general. I'm fed up with seeing people who make up for their mediocre personalities by talking endlessly about mundane mobile phone features and factoids.

So there.

I'm pretty much determined to find a ringtone that I really like, but doesn't have a tune to it. One which isn't earburstingly loud and doesn't irritate me or others. Probably the sound of a dog barking or something...

Gretin 02-12-2005 12:11 AM

I don't really use mobile phones much... I've got an older model Alcatel, but it doesn't get used very often. I occasionally use it for sending text messages, and I take it with me when I go out, just in case I need it, but apart from that I don't really use it.

I'm fed up with seeing people who spend all day sending texts! It's like $50 on their phone one day, $5 left the next day! :nonono:

Alcar 02-12-2005 02:31 AM

I have a mobile phone, a Nokia 6610. It's the first mobile I've ever had, and hopefully, I will not have to purchase one for a long time. I'm quite happy with it, it does what it is supposed to do. Although, I do hate with a passion the intense price of getting my phone topped up with credit - I don't have much money to spend on it.

As for the radiation factor, I am concerned about it. Especially considering I keep my phone in my pocket, and thus very close to my testicles.

Alcar...

Hobo 02-12-2005 03:04 AM

I use my phone for texing. That's all i want from my phone. Therefore i have a crap phone. I got through £20 of credit in one week though.

What testicles? :fuzconf:

I have a panasonic, I'm not sure of the make. I just use it for texting mainly, but I got it about 2 years ago and one of the buttons always sticks.

I'm not particularly bothered about radiation because I never really use it for phoning and I always leave it at home (I'm so forgetful ^_^;;).

And anyway... In ten years time they're going to discover a terrible and fatal disease from using a microwave...

Reptile 02-12-2005 07:33 AM

I have a mobile. Tis a Vodafone flip phone. I can't remember the make, I got it for christmas to replace my old Nokia.

Rich 02-12-2005 08:59 AM

I have never had a mobile, I hate the culture surrounding them. All the stupid townies who get through abot 7 phones a year, the ringtones, the "I can't live without my phone generation". All of it. It's killing me.

:

TheRaisin 02-12-2005 09:42 AM

My dad got me a mobile for Christmas. It was cool for about a week. Now it's just a reminder of how much he spends on useless crap that no one ever uses. I don't need a cell phone. I never expressed the slightest interest in one. I explicitly told him not to get me anything I didn't explicitly ask for. And he did. And now it sits in my room, unused. I f*cking hate cell phones.

Oddish 02-12-2005 10:08 AM

My perants got me my 2nd mobile phone for Christmas. It's good. I don't use it that much, only to talk to my friends, and record oddworld ringtones.

So it can be quite a handy gadget.

Are you insinuating that you are going to use a penis to hunt for the frog? Or that the frog has a penis? (true)

Silversnow 02-12-2005 02:31 PM

I have a Siemens M50. I only use it for calling in sick and ensuring mom that I'm alive. I occasionally send a message to a friend, but that happens very rarely. I don't care much about mobile phones, people seems to be so worked up about all the special things that they forget if you can actually call someone.
And the horrible commercials... :chairhit:

Facsimile 02-13-2005 12:50 AM

I use a phone, I always have it with me, but I very very rarely ever use it to ring people. The only thing I use it for is for texting, and only send a few a day, nothing like what some of my friends do.

Olli 02-13-2005 04:37 AM

I have a Sony Ericsson T610, I got it for christmas, to replace an Ericsson T20 (that's old, in case you were wondering :P).I use my phone infrequently, texting and calling mainly when I need to.

The stupid scally/townie attitude towards them is really worrying, I imagine they'd go through withdrawal symptoms if you took their phone away. Of course, they'd then go and buy a new one, that costs more.

I AGREE! It's so annoying, and they're still trying to make money off it weeks after it was the big thing.

It's actually censored in the more recent adverts

Godlesswanderer 02-13-2005 06:01 AM

Even the creator doesn't like it any more. I think he tried to stop it from being distributed a few months ago but it failed and he just gave up.

Oddish 02-13-2005 07:38 AM

I think there is a new one with a dancing chick.

Jacob 02-13-2005 08:26 AM

I have a mobile phone, which is amazingly old. Well, not amazingly. But old, none the less. Though i don't really mind, i only use it to keep my social life remotely active and to spare me of boredom when i'm alone.

My sister also has a mobile phone. She's 8. She doesn't need a mobile phone. Yet mother is too pathetic to tell her otherwise.

Ugh.

smerles 02-13-2005 10:37 AM

I got a Sony Ericsson K700i, overall a nice mobile phone. Sometimes I hate it, because when I want to answer the phone or call someone it likes to freeze or shut down... ARGH! :) I don't use it too much and mostly to write someone. Cheaper than calling ;)

That's pretty much the same as what I do with mine, except I only send a few a month. ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean (sort of), we have the "crazy $10 text" guy for Telecom here in New Zealand, and he's bad enough... :nonono:

AquaticAmbi 02-13-2005 03:35 PM

Mawk, what's sort of life-improving features does your phone possess?

I have a cell that I only use in case of emergency or if something really important comes up and I need to contact my mom or something. I dislike using cell phones. Most are made too complicated.

Nate 02-13-2005 07:34 PM

I have a phone, under extreme duress. My mum forced me when I got a job that meant I had to drive for an hour each way through the middle of nowhere. It came in handy the one time I ran out of petrol so I should't complain. But now that I'm not working there anymore I'm going to hide it somewhere and never take it out again.

I don't see why some of you seem to be afraid of cellphones...

So you're saying that if one day you were walking along and you ended up somehow getting beaten to a bloody pulp by someone and left in a dark alley, and if you had your cellphone you could call for help, but you have a childish vendetta against them, so you would rather lay and die?

Olli 02-14-2005 04:09 AM

:

HAHA, yes! It's just such an obvious attempt to cash in on the inane success of the Crazy Frog using a similar formula. I don't think it's annoying enough to stimulate the townie morons though.

Alpha 02-14-2005 04:25 AM

I think mobile's are brill you can go on the internet with em contact friend's etc.

I'm just going to punch the first Jamster UK employee that I see. And should I find out where their office is, I've got most of the anarchists cookbook memorised.

:

Mawk, what's sort of life-improving features does your phone possess?

GPRS, bluetooth compatible, VGA camera for stills and video, TFT screen and full video streaming capability, FM Radio, WAP, voice activation, triband for use in other countries, MMS, Infrared, HSCSD and EGPRS for high-speed data connectivity, supports polyphonics, and has an internal antenna so it isn't quite as risky or ugly. Plus it doesn't have a keypad, which is cool because I hate keypads.

The GPRS mobile internet is handy, because my college has blocked internet access, which is a pain for doing coursework.

"I'm just going to punch the first Jamster UK employee that I see. And should I find out where their office is, I've got most of the anarchists cookbook memorised."

That's just pathetic.

I have a mobile phone, but it's used for business purposes only. I have it permanently set on vibrate and I have yet to send a text message to anyone.

I greatly dislike talking on the phone anyway, so I guess it all works out...Although the last producer I worked with apparently thought I was the most interesting person in Los Angeles and was constantly calling 'just to say hi' and invite me to many a social gathering.

...Bastard.

Why? If you had to live in England for long enough to experience the crazy frog phenomenon, then you'd want to beat up Jamster employees too. Or at least stamp on the phones of those who used that ringtone.

Disgruntled Intern 02-14-2005 08:17 PM

I try not to concern myself with trivial things like ringtones.

Oh, wait.

But I'm not bragging... it's hardly something to brag about is it?

"hello sir, I'd like you to impress me"
"ok... I have memorised most of the anarchists cook book"
"uhm, no I said IMPRESS, not cause me to form the conclusion that you're a total geek."

I openly admit to it being stupid. In what way is that bragging?

Disgruntled Intern 02-14-2005 09:00 PM

You didn't originally admit it was stupid.

Now that you have, I guess I retract my statement.

Wolfpac 02-16-2005 02:46 AM

I have a phone but I keep it in the Car because that's where I would more than likely use it the most. Otherwise so I can ring up for Roadside Assistance. But I do use it on the weekends. I text my friends a question and wait for a response.

So who has the guts to post their phone number up here? :p

Shinjara 02-16-2005 11:35 AM

The whole mobile phone radiation thing doesn't really bother me.

I need a mobile phone as I go to college out of town so I have it with me at all times & I use it as a means of communicating with my boyfriend as he lives 30 odd miles away.

I have a Nokia 7250i, second hand, pretty decent. Does what I need it to do which is mainly phoning and text messages.

Rich 02-16-2005 01:09 PM

I could do with a phone, but my friend and his text girlfriend worry me. I needed one tonight though, I'm considering getting one but that means more bloody money...

Alpha 02-16-2005 01:13 PM

Mobiles are neccesity's and need's which you choose to see them as is completly up to you so the statment at the start of the tread was pointless

*takes a deep breath* A-DING DING DING!

Oh God, it's aweful. Worst of all, it's only just just arrived in my neck of the woods. Luckily I haven't heard the ring tone for real very much, and I live in the middle of the Townie hideout for the region. I have a friend who impresses people by impersonating a Ferrari F1 race. It's infinitely funnier.

I have a Sony Ericsson T610. It's wonderful. It can take photos, though I didn't buy it for that purpose: it was cheap, small and looks good (aesthetics must never be forgotten). It's screen is nice and big, so I don't have to squint to see it, and it comes with a case, which should keep it drier in the rain (how my last phone died). I don't actually use it very often, but it makes itself useful enough.

Mojo 02-18-2005 09:41 AM

Got a SonyEricsson T630, and I'm happy with it. Bluetooth, Infrared, GPRS, WAP, games (YAY), lotsa things. Currently, my ringtone is Y.M.C.A. Dunno why though...

dripik 02-19-2005 10:57 AM

A Nokia 3410 here. I don't use it often, it's just on my desk, with a Rupture Farms picture message I draw on it. I can post a picture of it here if anybody cares.

Alpha 02-19-2005 01:44 PM
