Tealish Arts...

...I'd give it a number, in the grand tradition of "Character pics!" but I forget where I got to. Was it 6? Anyway.

...*pause* *bares teeth and bullies forum into accepting attachments*

These are just some silly doodles I ran off while watching television tonight, one inspired by a picture in the front of The Book, and one just because I felt like doodling out some silly pictures...

"Two Newts?"
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...achmentid=2677
...well, since one of my characters was originally supposedly to be a hybrid of primarily mudokon and Oddworldish-newt, with a few bits and pieces of other creatures in there, (although at that point nobody knew if there were newts on OW, She was just a case of "OMG NEWT must have a newt yay newtiness!") Seeing the picture of the warrior newts in the front of the book, how could I resist? ;) (I know, I know, they're Grubbs or Salamanders or something, but with those short little finny legs I like "newt" better. :) )

"Creatures"
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2678&stc=1
The two-legged one was just a "telly on, what shall I draw... something like a whale... yeah..." I was musing over the fact that if oddcreatures are lacking a pair of limbs, they either move about only on their arms, or else have only one leg for hopping, there's not many biped armless creatures out there... I was thinking this'd be a grumpy desert predator, or something. The other doodles are just silly - one's supposed to be a bird, with a longer, broader tail, and the other a "desert rat" taking its inspiration from a kangaroo-rat (hence the fluffy tail and whatnot) (and a camel for the biiiig eyelashes).

Yay. Artzes. I'm polishing them up, although we'll see how far I get before getting bored. :P

Edit: Argh spelling mistakes.

Edit2: hehe, post number 1066. *runs around waving sword*

Biggy Bro Slig 01-07-2005 08:48 AM

Wow Teal, those are really great.

Oddish 01-07-2005 09:03 AM

Those are so magicifent! I like that way you make oddwolrd creatures lively, good grubbs.

Kimon 01-23-2005 05:58 PM

Great stuff. Keep it up! :)

odd chick 01-23-2005 09:10 PM

Yeah, those are really nice, Teal! :D I love your desert rat-it's so fluffy!!! :) You have to post more up soon! :)

Rich 01-25-2005 10:23 AM

cool stuffs. I like. :)

Teal 02-10-2005 01:52 PM

Yay, people DO look. *hugs all peoples what replied*

I've been working on this one on-and-off in front of the telly for a while now, and keep on getting all grr-ed by the fact it's not working the way I want it, but hey, that's the way of art, right? And yes, I was inspired to finally scan it after seeing the other "lady mudokon" topics. ;)

Anyway. Backstory. :) This is Bea, short for Beatrice, Lady of the Lights. She should have been a queen, but you know what these "young professionals" are like - the young shaman tasked with guarding the clutch her egg was in let her get too cold, so when she finally hatched she was not a queen but sterile, and withered. Instead she chose to study in the ways of the shaman, and was destined for greatness; her consort was an energetic young male called Renetheska, to whom she was destined to spend the rest of her days and so their life-forces were linked, to increase their power and protect them from the inductrial forces that wished their destruction.

But Renetheska grew impatient of council trivialities and began to dabble in the black arts; it poisoned his heart, turned his skin ashen and eczematous, and he grew steadily more insane as days passed - so the council imprisoned him a small, distant cave and let him die.

Or so they though. While his life-force was so irrevocably intertwined with Bea's, he could not die, and although his body crumbled to dust his mind lived on in spirit, trapped and growing steadily more insane and twisted with every day that passed. And while he "lived", Bea could not die either - she grew old, and hunched, arthritis so crippling her hips and ankles that she could barely walk without a crutch, and abandoned the shamanic ways that had cost her so much. She moved to Khufa, a small town by a great lake in the forest, becoming advisor and 'social conscience' to the council, and all became peaceful, until the antics of a certain "Abe" stirred up Industrial resentment and things began to simmer once more.

Then, of course, the younger members of the town council decided to try and steal back some mudokon eggs, in the hope of finding the precious queen thay had heard Sam had laid, and managed to steal a slig's egg completely by accident. And that is kinda where my stories start, although the early Bea was not so old (I clocked her at about 200, just before I killed her off) and not quite so crippled. So yay. :)

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2795&stc=1

Yeah, I tried to take inspiration from the pic of Sam and make a more "realistic" old lady mudokon, but she just looked surreal and didn't match the picture from my mind's eye, so I gave up. There IS a character walking next to her - Drek - but until I get him to look right I won't bother rescan it. Cartoon sligs is easy, making them look more realistic is a pain, especially when they're lacking parts of their face so it's harder to use references. Grr.

Edit: I SOOO badly cannot spell tonight. *bites fingers* Pfft, they can stay there. *razz at spelling errors*

cherie 02-10-2005 02:42 PM

nice art. i like how bea came out.

odd chick 02-10-2005 02:43 PM

I love that one, Teal! She does look a bit like Sam in the book. :) It's great!

Teal 02-13-2005 11:21 AM

'Nother working doodle. Not quite "Unlikely Friend", maybe more of an "Even MORE unlikely..."

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2801&stc=1

I'm taking such liberties here today. ;) It was more of an excuse to go mad with silly Star-Wars-esque hair/feathers/stuff, but hey. We'll see if I manage to finish it.

smerles 02-13-2005 11:39 AM

Tealish, your art's very niceish!

cherie 02-13-2005 11:49 AM

aww, thats sweet. glad i'm not the only one who thought of a slig/mudokon love realationship. it's not offical story though. it's zander paired up wit ha female mudokon char of one of my rpg friends. i just created their child, indy.

in anycase, great picture:) can't wait to see more.

Angel-FoX-crescent 02-13-2005 12:38 PM

Yeah I think it's cute too ^-^

odd chick 02-13-2005 02:31 PM

Yeah, that's so adorable, Teal. :) I love it!

Dipstikk 02-13-2005 04:47 PM

Very great job, Teal. I suggest inking, however. It makes the lines much more noticable. :)

Yeah, but then I'm not quite finished that one yet. I like to upload the "in-progress" doodlage as if I don't, I never finish it and forget to UL it. :P Inking is my nemesis, mind - it's a biro or nowt, these days. Meh.

When you employ a creature as high-strung as a slig, yelling in their ear when they're employed in delicate work isn't going to make for efficient labs. (For what it's worth, Ivy is a "synthoid" - artificial construct - and I'm blaming her humanoidness on the fact she was designed by a Vykker who wanted "best of both worlds", slig-dexterity and mudokon-agility (well, agility being relative). So no whingeing about "no female sligs!")

OMG background!

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2811&stc=1

Edit: Argh, I see a stupid-word. *kills it* *corrects it*

cherie 02-15-2005 02:11 PM

heh,i'm not complaining about the female thing. i have female sligs so i won't complain if you won't ;)

in anycase funny picture. really isn't a good idea to yell into a intercom in a lab. one of thease days theres going to be an explosion.

odd chick 02-15-2005 02:28 PM

That's a funny pic, Teal! I like the idea of a female slig-it's cool! Yet again, great job with the drawings! :)

Angel-FoX-crescent 02-15-2005 02:57 PM

I luv the expression lol

Teal 02-16-2005 09:03 AM

What can I say? I have been CORRUPTED.

When you can look exactly how you like, why not? Ivy invests in some Weapons of Mass Distraction.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=2813&stc=1

...never been very lucky in love, has this little girl. Maybe she hopes they'll help her situation. :P

A little more saturated than in real life - I fiddled about with the scanner settings - but hey. :)

Angel-FoX-crescent 02-16-2005 09:19 AM

Cool I like the shade and tone the pose is cool too ^-^

cherie 02-16-2005 01:35 PM

neat:) i like the shoes.

Alpha 02-16-2005 02:09 PM

Brillant you are an artist however the colour one freak's me out.

Phat_man 02-16-2005 07:56 PM

Everything you make is one word... magnificent.

The Marching Mudokon 02-17-2005 02:46 AM

Your drawing are very good, keep up the great work!

Teal 02-17-2005 04:49 AM

:

the colour one freak's me out

That's partly the idea. ;) But you know, if Lanning wasn't in control of Oddworld and the people in charge were inclined to pander to the masses, that IS what you could have ended up with...

:

i like the shoes.

...glad someone noticed them. ;)

Now, gotta finish that other one. Trying also to work on a more dramatic scene (well, a "non-static" scene, anyway) but we'll see how that goes. Not so brilliant at Vykkers, must practice. :P

Alpha 02-17-2005 08:45 AM

What theme are the other's on?( I mean what animal are the other's based on?).

odd chick 02-17-2005 11:56 AM

Nice drawing, Teal! :) I love the flower that's in her hair-it's cute!

Teal 02-17-2005 02:46 PM

Which pics are you referring to? Since most of them are just brainfarts and not inspired by anything much ;)

T-nex 02-17-2005 02:55 PM

Hey, i've colored you slig-female-thingy in photoshop. I tried to match the colors as much as possible. Hope you like it ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...icturecopy.gif

EDIT: Just have a little question: What do you think of the background? Does it match?

Abe's son 02-17-2005 03:00 PM

I don't know why but that disturbs me greatly in ways you don't want to know...

Don't know why but just thought you'd like to hear that.

T-nex 02-17-2005 03:05 PM

hmm?? Disturbing how? If there's something you don't like about it, then feel free to give me feedback.

Teal 02-17-2005 03:06 PM

Heeh, groovy. :) I thought you meant the plain one - that is, the one with a scene in the background. The more "sane" one. ;) And any background is good - I'm just lazy or I'd make half an effort at putting one in...

One of these days I will learn to use computer-colouring programs. I just lose patience and die on the keyboard and never finish anything. (Having said that, I don't often finish things I draw in real media either... *shifty eyes*)

:

- *rubs hands gleefully* Eeeexcellent, my plan is all coming together nicely... The female brain is not to be deciphered. ;)

:

I'm assuming he's referring to the subject matter rather than your colouring. ;) *muahaha*

You SHALL all be corrupted...

The colouring is good it's just the pic.

Phat_man 02-18-2005 08:38 PM

Seriously it's just disturbing entirely.

Leto 02-18-2005 08:56 PM

I agree with Phat man. Dude- that's just wrong. Good detail, good colouring- but, dude.

Teal 02-19-2005 02:34 AM

MUAHAHA. You little ones are all so easily frghtened. ;) *wonders about taking inspiration from a comment on her devART comment and trying something on a related note... ;)*

T-nex 02-19-2005 06:19 AM

... I don't see why it's disturbing.. I really like that drawing....
