Who like's Family Guy?

Do you like it and whats your favorite episode?

Godlesswanderer 01-01-2005 06:12 PM

Yes and my favourite episode has to be either the nudist neighbours one or the Christmas one.

Silversnow 01-01-2005 07:08 PM

I like it, but I'm not sure which one is my favorite. I do like the post-nuclear one simply because of the giant chicken. :D

Facsimile 01-01-2005 10:09 PM

I love Family Guy, but I have only seen most episodes once, so I couldn't say my favourite.

Majic 01-01-2005 10:51 PM

I love Family Guy. Everybody loves Family Guy. I bought the volume one DVD set, which kept circulating through various friends of mine for a good while. I'd buy the second volume, except I'm tempted to not blow all my Christmas money so soon of recieving it.

Facsimile 01-01-2005 11:04 PM

I'm going to buy the season one and two boxset someday, but I just spent a lot of money on CDs, when I'm saving for a computer.

sligster 01-01-2005 11:30 PM

I love family guy... I watch reruns whenever I can, so I've seen most (if not all) of them. Can't wait for the next season.

I can't say which is my fav... I love them all!

I like the one where Lois's Aunt dies and they get her house. Stewie is eating and talking to his Butler "Cut my eggs!" "Your eggs are cut sir" "CUT MY MILK!" "I can't sir it a liquid." WELL FREEZE IT AND THEN CUT IT YOU NITWIT!" "Now you 2. FIGHT TO THE DEATH!"

mawk 01-02-2005 09:53 AM

I don't like Family Guy. I just don't find it all that funny. It is mildly humorous, but it really doesn't have much on Futurama and Space Ghost. The jokes in those just crack me up. (although admittedly Futurama can be pretty weak at times. Bender seems to make up for that though...)

Haha.

Anyways, Family Guy is awesome. But I've also only watched the episodes once, so I can't comment on my favorite.

And mawk, how could you say that? Futurama better than Family Guy? Not even possible. Space Ghost is pretty funny though...

I can say that because it's my opinion.

And yes, I find Futurama funnier than family guy. Thus, it is in my opinion, better than Family Guy. I can sit through an entire episode of Family Guy and not even laugh once, finding myself distinctly unimpressed by it, but so far I haven't watched a single episode of Futurama without at least once being in tears with laughter.

One of my favourite futurama jokes was the one where Bender was asked to shock the professor (because the professor was unconscious) so Bender shouted "Your tax return is late! Things cost more than they used to! Young people use curse words!" at the professor.

That kind of joke will always be (for me) phenominaly funnier than the somewhat tiresome Pinky and the Brain ripoff baby who has aspirations of world domination. It's almost as bad as the Invader Zim "DOOM!" joke.

The whole cartoon plays off like the classic American family sitcom, which is a format I loathe with a vengeance. It just does nothing for me.

Languor 01-02-2005 10:43 AM

I guess I'm not intelligent enough to get that humor. :( Granted, Family Guy can be (well, actually... most of the time, is) a little stupid as far as the humor goes. Still makes me laugh though.

Maybe Futurama has improved since I last watched it, I dunno. I watched a few of the very first episodes a few years back, and haven't watched anything from it ever since... so I suppose my opinion isn't quite valid.

Meh, you're entitled to your opinion. Personally I would advise that you give Futurama a bit more of a chance. You are right though that Futurama does take an above average level of intelligence if you're to get most of the jokes, whereas Family Guy merely requires a pulse in order to actually get the jokes. (finding them funny is a slightly different matter however)

I can't really compare Futurama to Family Guy since they are both so different. But I can definately tell you which one I find funnier.

But like I said, give Futurama a watch sometime. I think you'll be pleasantly suprised by some of the newer episodes.

Languor 01-02-2005 11:15 AM

I'll watch it next time it's on, but I don't think it's on here in the U.S. anymore. I'm pretty sure Fox cancelled it. I might be wrong though.

Oddly Insane 01-02-2005 12:43 PM

It's in the USA. I don't have cable so I'm not really sure. But I have 1st and 2nd season on DVD. I LOVE IT.

I'll have to find out when then. I didn't think it was... shows how much I know.

Adult Swim

Cartoon Network at 11:00 pm

Futurama

kthx

Languor 01-02-2005 07:31 PM

Cartoon Network? Lol. I haven't watched that in years.

Majic 01-02-2005 10:01 PM

Cartoon Network did suprisingly well with the addition of Adult Swim. Granted, adult is referring to the target audience of teenagers, but that's besides the point. The comedy lineup is damn good, if I do say so myself, and Saturday night anime could be worse. Or maybe not. I'm not well briefed upon the specific show selections.

Facsimile 01-02-2005 10:29 PM

I was a fan of both Futurama and Family Guy for ages, but now, a couple of years down the track, I can see Futurama trying to be funny, but failing (Which saddens me because I used to love it), and Family Guy always beeing laugh out loud.
And mawk, non-intelligent people don't get a lot of Family Guy, trust me. Sure, they laugh at the parts where someone gets hurt, but that's about it.

Wil 01-03-2005 07:42 AM

Family Guy is hilarious. Sky One just never shows it.

Hobo 01-03-2005 09:24 AM

Family Guy > all those other fox cartoons.

Unless i already posted in this thread. Then *some kind of spam*

Adult Swim is the adult-oriented program on Cartoon Network. It plays at night... around 10 or so for my time I think? I dunno, I've only seen it once or twice. I've never heard of this "Adult Cartoon Network" before though.

no, it's Adult Swim...

it's not technically aimed at adults, but some adults may find it funny.

I'm pretty sure there is no ADULT CARTOON NETWORK with anime porn...... or whatever...

your friend is either bluffin, or doesn't know what it is...

SeaRex 01-03-2005 07:07 PM

Well hey there, ya muscly-armed paper boy! I'm wonderin' when your gonna bring me some good news!

I've got some popsicles in the cellar... you like popsicles?

Ugh. I'm so bad at remembering quotes, but Jeebus, I love Family Guy. I keep hearing rumors about a new season. Honestly, I hope they're true.

I've heard them too. I've heard it's coming out *looks at watch* this year.
If it's not true, then I'm going to burn the GameFAQs message boards to the ground.
...
That is, if they don't accidentally do it to themselves.

Personally, I'm sick of "Family Guy copied The Simpsons" comments being tossed and thrown around.
Never once, while watching the show, did I ever see it as a Simpsons rip-off.
It wasn't until I noticed that people were getting really worked up about it, that I started to notice it.

But I think Family Guy is it's own show. Although it continuously parodies everything, and although it seems to leach off other shows, I've never considered it to be a clone of any TV show.

When it was cancelled, I personally think it should of stayed cancelled. At least it would of ended on a high note.
And the idea of The Simpsons having to compete with FG would hopefully perish too, then maybe it might return to the old style.

This is what I think of the characters:

Peter. It's hard to describe his character. He seems to have a new characteristic, or a catch-phrase every episode.

Now, he's just a little too over the top. They've really crossed the line with him; so much so, that it actually isn't funny anymore. If they take him back to the Season 3 or possibly Season 4 standard, then I might enjoy his character again.
He just annoys me heaps. He's basically everything I'm against, and I find it extremely hard to get into his character after that.

Lois. She really annoys me.
I don't like her voice. And she seems to be a pretty cheap "Marge Simpson" rip-off.
Sometimes she "nags" but she doesn't do it in an innocent, or funny way like Marge, she does it in a bitchy, slutty way, and I find that pretty off-putting. That's how I generally see her character.

Chris
. He's not much of a character. He usually has about one line an episode, and it's usually just a cheap joke to fill in time.

Meg. I love Meg. I love it how they're all really horrible to her.

But as the series progressed, they've started doing less and less of that. She's kind of becoming "accepted" into the Family now, so it isn't all that funny to watch her anymore.

Brian
. I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it again.

Brian was always my favourite character. In the early seasons, he seemed to be the only "sane" character.
He was opinionated and actually had a soul. A good example of this, is the episode where he goes to jail for drinking from the water fountain or something.
And no, he shouldn't have a girlfriend. That might sound a bit...weird, but it just doesn't work for his character.
He's a dog, they're trying to make him into Peter II.

Stewie. Wow. Stewie's gone from being 100% evil to 94% cute, 6% evil.
It just doesn't work like that. You can't make him that cute, and that evil at the same time.
They did it somehow in the first two or three seasons, and they made it work brilliantly. I don't know how they did it, but that was one of the reasons I really latched onto this show.

But now, it's just like he's two different people. It gets really hard to like, feel for, or get into his character when he's being cute immediately after he's done something cruel or shocking.

I'll finish by saying: Although it isn't one of my favourite shows, I will never deny how brilliant it once was.
It was filled with such excellent, unique humour that I'd never really seen before.

As for my favourite episode? I can't just name one:

I Never Met the Dead Man
Peter, Peter, Caviar Eater
E. Peterbus Unum
Running Mates
Fifteen Minutes of Shame
Da Boom
Lethal Weapons
Emission Impossible
Petarted
PTV

No, I don't think Family Guy copied the Simpson, there are big differences. Anyway I prefer the Simpson, and especially the horror episode!

Ok, excuse me Hobo.

"HEY LOIS! REMEMBER THAT THAT TIME I *insert activity* WITH *insert celebrity* DURING *insert time period here*?"

Seriously, the show is overrated and pure crap, and if you like it, you're a discrace to the human race and should be shot in the crotch to prevent breeding.

Hobo 10-05-2007 08:14 AM

Ok I forgot to close it and now look stupid. Looney-bin your opinion is wrong.
