yeah, saw something too, on a dutch site: http://www.gamer.nl/nieuws/24577

Incognito 12-10-2004 12:49 PM

But it's ODDWORLD Inhabitants!

But then again it could be a good thing, it'll be like Oddworld's having a little brother.

:

"We have plans for both Xbox and Xbox 2, and of course PS2 and PS3. We missed out on PS2 with Oddworld Stranger's Wrath because we got on board so late in the day, but we don't intend to miss the opportunity again."

It could also mean more publicity for OI? And with a Stranger Sequel in the works or sort of, I'm sure there not going to be leaving Oddworld behind.

Esus 12-10-2004 12:53 PM

The March UK release of Stranger is highly disappointing, in regards to it being released in January for America.

Xavier 12-10-2004 12:55 PM

here is the original article:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=113078

I have to post it on oddblog!

oddguy 12-10-2004 12:57 PM

The original article was linked in the one I posted.

Anyway, for some reason I'm a bit sad. I guess I shouldn't be...but I am.

erwinraaben55 12-10-2004 12:58 PM

What I think is that they put too many work on their heads. Actually, too many promises. I don't think they will ever gonna make all oddworld games that they are planning too. (quintology + bonus games=7; + Hands of odd + maybe stranger 2? + new game is a total of 10 games at least.
I don't think we ever gonna see the quintology finished, or have bonus games for them.

Xavier 12-10-2004 01:07 PM

Oddguy... I feel exactly the same as you are...
I kinda hope Citizen Siege is a one shot game, but something tells me OWI is realy going to create another universe with ceveral games on it

I don't know what to think about it.

but please, please, carry on making games located on oddworld!!!

Incognito 12-10-2004 01:08 PM

:

Well Lorne did suggest that the quintology may be continued as movies, so maybe with this new non-oddworld game, the quintology games are probably being shelved to in favour of quintology movies? Oh I hope not.

March??? Where was that mentioned? Is it in the original article cos I've not read that yet. Argh that's four months away! :fuzsad:

Esus 12-10-2004 01:11 PM

Yeah, in the original article.
:

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Lanning's upcoming Xbox title due for a 4 March 2005 UK release through Electronic Arts,
Compared to January 25th for the US.

Only five and a half weeks different then!!!!!!!

Wil 12-10-2004 01:13 PM

I really don't know what to think about this. Oddworld Inhabitants have every right to break away from the Oddworld series, to produce something that's not Oddworld, so I'm most certainly not going to criticise them for doing that. I'm also not surprised, as I'm aware that OWI are highly cynical of the political state. But what erwinraaben says makes me... well, I haven't decided yet. Right now I'm feeling as though the Oddworld Quintology is slipping further and further away, lost amongst a myriad Lorne's creative genius outburst.

Just a couple of hours ago I read an article by Raymond Swanland about how he loved the fact that Oddworld was uncovering a world so rich in its own culture and history and life - that too is part of what I love of Oddworld. No matter how deep the political satire, social messages, stunning art and great storytelling, I'm never going to find anything so magical about Earth. I remain open minded.

Xavier 12-10-2004 01:17 PM

well I realy hope Oddworld Inhabitants will expent quickly making 2 games at once (one Oddworld, one Citizen Siege) and maybe even some movies...

OWI realy has to expent, they have a huge potential!
Of cource I trust the team... but I wan't more games located on Oddworld!!!

on the other hand I didn't see the Citizen Siege world yet...

oddguy 12-10-2004 01:23 PM

I kinda hope Citizen Siege is a one shot game, but something tells me OWI is realy going to create another universe with several games on it

I don't know what to think about it.

I hope I'm wrong, but it feels like Lorne wants to phase out Oddworld until technology is better for his vision of it.

*sigh*

Xavier 12-10-2004 01:55 PM

or he absolutly want to explicitely give his political opinion trough games right now
things he can't say with oddworld

Oddish 12-10-2004 02:02 PM

Whao, I never suscpected this from oddworld, becuase OWI said they will only make oddworld games.
What I think lorne is trying to do is to give a big break from oddworld itself becuase of the tecthnology and their new project, just like with Munch's Oddysee, and then made diffrent oddworld games, Stranger's Wrath. And now he wants an earhtly project, but is it going game, or movie?

But I do like his idea, I mean it's more inportant, but I hope one they back to it and carry on with lornes oddworld storys.

buckminster 12-10-2004 02:57 PM

Part of the point of the Oddworld series is to be allegorical towards all that is bad in our world and the hope to overcome/abolish it. I do agree that they have every right to create games that don't have anything to do with Oddworld, but unless they are attacking some specific people that are in power (i.e., "senators and congressmen"), how could they not easily put an idea like this into Oddworld?

Wil 12-10-2004 03:08 PM

Possibly because Oddworld, so far as we know, does not have a government to rip apart. The land of Mudos seems instead to be a technocracy, ruled by different families, or holding companies. There can be no promiscuous presidents or rigged elections or under-the-counter signings of bills allowing the destruction of ancient woodland, because those things don't exist in Mudos.

That's one possible reason.

Nepharski 12-10-2004 03:10 PM

Good Heavens...leave Oddworld? B-but...the Quintology! I...

*Scuttles off into the shadows. Breaks down into an emotional wreck. Returns.*

Well, to each their own...

Scrubs 12-10-2004 03:12 PM

Man, I think im in shock! I can't believe they are breaking away from the Oddworld universe, i don't understand why they can't tackle these issues on Oddworld. I always imagined them tackling loss of civil liberties etc inside the Oddworld universe!!

Guess i can't really judge until the game comes out, but the best of luck to them. Just don't forget Oddworld please!!!!!!!

Oddish 12-10-2004 03:13 PM

Dose that mean the Oddworld is going to change? That's what the quintology & other OW games are based on. Or are just going to keep the same ideas, or even not produce the oddworld series.

Scrubs 12-10-2004 03:24 PM

NOOOOOOOOOO, I have to wait until March. Waiting for this game has been torture.

The Marching Mudokon 12-10-2004 03:24 PM

I never would of thought OWI would break away from the OW series (even if it is for a little while), but I trust their judgement.

oddguy 12-10-2004 03:28 PM

I didn't make it clear before, but I agree that OWI has the right to do whatever they want to.

odd chick 12-10-2004 10:14 PM

OWI has the right to step away from Oddworld and venture into different territory. After all, they are the developers and they are the ones with new ideas. ;) But at the same time, I just hope that future Stranger games, the rest of the quintology and even more games won't have to be put off for too long because of it. Either way though, I still think it will be interesting to see what OWI come up with in this upcoming game!

Software Bug 12-10-2004 10:58 PM

I like the idea that they make other games but i think they have to make the OW series complete first...

Xavier 12-10-2004 11:49 PM

well I simply hope they will continue to provide us oddworld games at a decent rate...
I want Oddworld!!!

erwinraaben55 12-11-2004 05:33 AM

We all want oddworld !!!!

Esus 12-11-2004 05:38 AM

The article says the Oddworld series will continue, whether they do Citizen Siege or not.

Odd Trusting 12-11-2004 06:03 AM

Yes that it is true they may never deside to do it, sorta like a Hand of Odd that never is done

Scrab Watcher 12-11-2004 10:05 AM

When I first saw this I was shaken but now...well good luck to them.

As long as they don't leave Oddworld behind I suppose I don't mind...but...
:

a world so rich in its own culture and history and life - that too is part of what I love of Oddworld. No matter how deep the political satire, social messages, stunning art and great storytelling, I'm never going to find anything so magical about Earth.

I can't see Earth ever having the same magic as Oddworld. On Oddworld, many of the beautiful things still survive, on Earth, things are pretty much too late.

Remember the first time you gazed at those ancient Mudokon ruins, remember how you marveled at the strange creatures spread before you, remember how you held your breath and then released it as the next portion of the planet was unveiled in all it's glory. That was a big part of Oddworld for me, as much as the criticism of the problems of our world.

Odd Trusting 12-11-2004 10:13 AM

Scrab Watcher your making me cry *sniff*, DOn't worry guys as from know Odd Trusting will act like a true member, I do think that this Citzen Seige will end up on the list of Oddworld game that need to be done but I don't think it will intrude on our bountiful Oddworld

Alcar 12-12-2004 04:00 AM

Good find oddguy! :D

Yeah, Citizen Siege may not eventuate in the end. It sounds promising, especially the part about upsetting the US congress, and I'd be stupid not to buy it. Though I do fear they'd take even longer developing games if they did make Citizen Siege.

Alcar...

Nate 12-12-2004 01:31 PM

We have this huge long thread of themes we want in future games and I'm sure that Lorne has his own list. If you read that thread every second one says 'I don't know how they'll work this into Oddworld but..." So this is probably Lorne's way of fitting in his belief system into a game.

PS if the Oz release date is March 4 it would be strangely appropriate. Thats my birthday

Rich 12-12-2004 01:36 PM

Even if they do make citizen siege, big deal. I'm sure we can all wait. Plus it'll probably be really good.

Alcar 12-12-2004 02:22 PM

I find it rather interesting that they are creating a new series under the company name Oddworld Inhabitants. The company's name sort of gives it away that all their games are Oddworld based. Though it doesn't mean they can't make other series, and I can't wait to see concepts for the new game - such controversy :D

Though it does seem weird.

Alcar...

Xavier 12-13-2004 09:28 AM

The more I think of it, the more excited I am about this project!

I think the political ideas that lorne gave could be realy well transmitted by a game, and we all know the OWI team has the talent needed to make such games!

I want to know more about!

Scrab Watcher 12-13-2004 12:14 PM

*is attacked by idea. rubs head. Jumps up ad down*

Hold on...what if it's not literal! I mean...what if they're creating a universe! Not just a futurized Earth. An actual world!

Could be nothing, but you never know...

*is hopeful*

Nate 12-13-2004 12:22 PM

They've already created a universe, an actual world before. That would be nothing special to do again (at least, by comparison).

Besides if a game/book/movie is set in the future of planet earth it has more resonance and meaning than a complete fantasy.

Xavier 12-14-2004 08:59 AM

NDW I agree with you, by locating the game on earth the impact on the people is bigger...
they will directly realize it's about them
