What game would you play?

I was watching Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey the other day. Well they got to a situation as to where they had to play the Grim Reaper - Death. If they won they got to go to Heaven or Earth. But if they lost they had to spend Eternity in Hell. So it got me wondering, if you had to play a game against Death, what game would you play?

the brew master 06-30-2004 09:08 PM

half life 2,halo or call of duty

Joshy 06-30-2004 10:55 PM

A game to test who is more alive.

Facsimile 06-30-2004 11:56 PM

A "who owns the least scythes" game.
Great movie, by the way, I love Bill and Ted. Especially the first one.

SeaRex 07-01-2004 07:47 AM

Great idea for a topic.

If we were talking video games, then probably Rainbow Six 3. Small level. Or maybe RTCW: Tides of War. On Beach Invasion. With Death as an Ally and me as a Nazi. One life. No chance in Hell he would win.

Otherwise, Blackjack. It's nice, quick, and based on more luck than skill. Death couldn't be the dealer, though. No, no. I would be pissed if I had to spend an eternity in Hell just because Death won by default.

Mojo 07-01-2004 08:27 AM

Hmmm... What game to play against the Reaper?

Strippoker? Heh heh heh!

Nah, prolly some videogame... Halo, for instance... FFA Slayer, unlimited grenades, on Longest :D.

Fez 07-01-2004 08:29 AM

Rock Paper Sissors.

SeaRex 07-01-2004 08:34 AM

Oooh! Good one, ferill. Risky, but good.

TheRaisin 07-01-2004 09:10 AM

Halo>Blood Gulch>human and Convenant weapons>unlimited supply of both types of grenades>all vehicles. I would use normal thumbstick sensitivity and inverted controls. I would use the sniper and grenades to blast him away at long range, assault rifle and pistol and grenades at close range, ghost to run him down if he was stupid enough to go out into the open or if he got on another ghost (I rule at ghost fighting), tank if I couldn't easily get to a ghost, and rocket launcher if I couldn't get to a tank. Whew. And that's exactly how the Grim Reaper would go down. Of course, I would hope the old coot had never even touched a game console, because I'm only halfway decent at video games.

The Bill and Ted movies were great.

oddguy 07-01-2004 10:22 AM

If I were to play a videogame against death, it'd have to be...Halo or Mario Kart: Double Dash. Both games I am very good at. It'd probably be easy to beat him, because it'd be hard for him to move the joysticks with his pointy, bony, fingers. Ahahaha!

Then, for fun...

Hide and Go Seek: Yes...it'd be timed, and there'd be three rounds. I'm awesome at hiding...and even better at seeking.

Paintball: He'd be an easy target. It'd be easy to hit him with his big flowing cloak flying all over the place! I'd win! :D

Fading Away 07-01-2004 10:26 AM

I like to play adventure games (like oddworld) and killing games like (gta3)

Statikk HDM 07-01-2004 10:34 AM

SeaRex, I won more money last year playing Blackjack than working in the cafeteria and let me tell you something: Luck ain't got nothing to do with it. A basic running count and rudimentary bet variance and you can get a two percent edge. Its even better if you can badger them into giving you late surrender, double downs on 3 cards, split and double after any split, more than one card apiece off of split aces, two handed, the list can go on and on. Get any two of those special rules and you're golden. Oh, and did I mention you're playing one on one with a single deck pretty much by default. I'd go for a strategy-orientated game that I've been playing for a long ass time like Monopoly, Chess or Checkers, or Magic the Gathering.

the brew master 07-01-2004 11:06 AM

hmmmm........russian roulete(sp?)

Except that Death is famous for being able to find anyone anywhere.

I first thought of 'Riddles in the Dark' like in The Hobbit but I can never remember any riddles. I'd try some sort of logic game cos I really don't think Death can think like humans (maybe I've read too much discworld)

I was thiking of something like that, but I wouldn't let Death ask the questions. I'd prefer to be the one asking the riddles.

I'd play Tetris. It's the only game I can really truly brag about. :D I used to play that game for hours on end, and end up having to turn it off, as I just wouldn't be able to die on it. Especially the original version. I used to find other variations of the game to try and challenge me, like hextetris and versions with different shapes, etc.

Fuzzles! 07-02-2004 03:42 AM

Shrek SuperParty. Sounds crazy, but I really am unbeatable at that game!!! :) :)

Smell 07-02-2004 05:19 AM

I'd play cluedo, Death would find it very interesting. Failing that, Monopoly.

Hobo 07-02-2004 05:55 AM

I'd play....

*Drumroll*

Who really exists.

Knowing me, I'd end up losing....

Cyber-Slig 07-02-2004 06:11 AM

Id play ''who has more skin''

You can thank us rushkies for that one.

I'd probably play Halo PC. I'm really good at that game. Especially in multiplayer.

And Joshy, your "who's more dead" game wouldn't work, since Death is niether living nor dead, and you are dead, since you have met Death. Therefore, you would lose.

TheRaisin 07-02-2004 10:30 PM

This really is an awesome thread.

Discworld, Magic: the Gathering, Tetris, and vicariously Russians are all just plain friggin' awesome. I love the portrayal of Death in the Discworld series. MTG is just the best trading card game out there. End of story. It's pretty much the original, and it is still and always will be the best. Tetris is perhaps one of the most addictive video games I have ever played, and its music is even more addictive. I consider the Tetris theme to be almost on a par with Halo music, but it's kind of a different ball game. Halo music is real orchestral music, after all. And that Russian dude who invented Tetris is awesome too. Isn't he an extremely brilliant mathematician?

BTW, the Tetris theme has been rehashed into an awesome techno song, predictably titled "Tetris". The musical group is Aphex Twin. Also, I recommend the short musical clip for the Halo 2 trailer. I forget who the conductor is, but the music is really awesome. It's about two and a half minutes long, I believe, and is done by this incredible orchestra and choir, and they've got these great string sounds and those vocals that are just like, "Wow, are those people singing?!" and it's really exciting and kind of haunting and you've gotta check it out. You can see the trailer on www.xbox.com. Just go to the games section, go to Halo 2, and there should be a list of trailers.

*knows all about this subject*

It's called Korobeiniki, it's a 300 year old russian folk song. Look. You want a better version of it? Go buy Ozma's Dubble Donkey Disc. It's got a rock version of it and it's qualtiy.

Even silly fez agrees.

TheRaisin 07-02-2004 11:20 PM

Ooh, stylin' Hobo. Thank ya much.

Another game I might play: Unreal Championship. Heh heh heh. I am t3h r0x0r at Unreal.

Smell 07-03-2004 12:07 AM

I'd play beat the Goalie, Poor Death wouldn't be able to save or kick a ball in the net.

You are SO on my buddy list.

...

As soon as I get around to playing Xbox Live again, that is.

ANN NEELY 07-03-2004 06:46 AM

I'd play Mario Party, Fuzion Frenzy, or Super Smash Bros. Melee, no one can beat me at those.

nads 07-03-2004 06:48 AM

One game where I'd have Death kissing the ground I walk on: Custom Robo. I only lost a few times in matches where there are more than 2 robos on screen.

Codek 07-03-2004 08:40 AM

Aphex Twin.

I've met him. I don't live far from him actually. Richard D James he's called. Not a bad guy.

TheRaisin 07-03-2004 09:31 PM

Wait, what? WHAT?! You actually know the guy? Hot dawg, dawg! That's awesome! What's he like?

Cranium is another one I might play against Death. Of course, we would need two more people. Cranium is the coolest board game I have ever played.

Codek 07-03-2004 11:43 PM

He's an interesting guy. The kind of person who's easy to talk to, you can sit about and have a laugh with him easily.

I've had him sign quite a few of my albums. In fact the first time I met him we bumped into each other in a shop - I had Selected Ambient Works Vol I in my CD player at the time and got him to sign it. I remember I bought a permenant ink pen especially to do that.

TheRaisin 07-05-2004 02:27 PM

Awesome. Simply awesome.

Codek 07-05-2004 02:37 PM

Awesome. Simply awesome.

Uh, yeh. It never really struck me as being so awesome to see him in the flesh though. Most people don't even know who he is, although there are still quite a lot of people who do. I wouldn't really class him as "famous".

Which reminds me, he invited me to his Lanner studio a while ago and it's coming up to the date. I shall have to make a note of that so I don't forget. ;)

Nate 07-05-2004 02:40 PM

This is probably going to reveal way more than I should about myself but I've actually spent the last week programming tetris from scratch on my computer.

*GEEK ALERT*
*GEEK ALERT*
*GEEK ALERT*

Well if I'm writing code it looks like I'm actually doing work and noone questions me.

BTW the tetris theme was also a traditional Jewish tune (I assume for people from Russia). We were very excited when we found that out as we had always hummed it as a joke but this gave us an air of legitimacy.

Codek 07-05-2004 02:47 PM

The song isn't Russian, the game is.

And you were excited when you found that out? Sounds like you have a pretty dull life to me.

TheRaisin 07-06-2004 11:11 AM

Curse that wretched Tetris tune, it is ingrained in my skull.

-humming Tetris tune-

D'oh!

Nate 07-06-2004 01:06 PM

russian game with a russian soundtrack.

I guess I shouldn't really have brought it up as it was a long-running joke among my friends that outsiders wouldn't really get. Like the whole "dental plan"/"lisa needs braces" thing

Mac the Janitor 07-06-2004 06:47 PM

Great movies, Bill and Ted. Mac <3333333's you for making this topic.

I would pwn Death at Parappa the Rapper. Seriously. I can make that dog rap like nuthin else brutha.

Hobo 07-07-2004 06:10 AM

But surely Codek, the original song from Tetris, Korobeiniki is a russian song, as it's a russian folk song. I tried googling it, but all I could get was the uber cool Ozma version

Killa_47 07-07-2004 06:11 AM

i would play a old roman times arena stile game.
