What did OW ever do to IGN?

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/524/524...html?fromint=1

This made me angry when I saw it.

IGN described OWI as a "down-in-the-dumps" developer. Okay, while slightly irritated, I could understand why they could think that with all that's been going on at OWI with Microsoft. Then, Douglass C. Perry continued by saying this...

"All we can say is "wow." With the poor sales of Munch's Oddysee and a general lack of interest in that universe, coupled with the company's previous lack of technical knowhow and a loss of several team members, we're surprised EA showed such interest in the game..."

Now that just pissed me off royaly.

I say we e-mail IGN and let them know that we're offended by what was said and that Oddworld has fans that are very interested in the Universe.

Who's with me?!

I'm with you!
I think a petition would be ideal, when we have enough we can send it
here is my addition:

Wil 06-17-2004 11:36 PM

What the hell? Who does this Douglass C. Perry think he is? Lack of technical knowhow, that doesn't even make sense. IGN should bring back Vincent Lopez to report on OWI, he was always enthusiastic but fair. You can add my name to the list any day.

I think IGN has their nose out of joint becasue as we know, the media love games that provide them with lots of information. Because OW has remained very quiet on OW4 info, IGN are probably annoyed because they haven't got any information for their site to report [info = visitors = money].

Still, it doesn't mean they should go and slurr OW like that ... but that's my guess as to why they are acting that way.

Abe Babe...

paramiteabe 06-18-2004 03:51 AM

I am in IGN is nothing but bullshit and they should be burned at the stake for being such pop nosed fools inwhich they are. They fooled me about release dates and all this crap and I am tired of them! :fuzmad: Bastards they are indeed!

Heck now that I am hearing this I am seriously considering writeing a letter to LL that we support him in everyway and telling him about IGN. We can have that and the patition. I can write a letter, mail it out to one of you and then you would sign it then you would mail to the next person and they will sign it and then they will do the same until all of us have our signatures on this letter. Then the last person can send it back to me and I will easily mail it to OWI by FedEx. I have OWI's address on the back the Christmas cards they give us every year. It would be a letter with all of our signatures on it supporting LL and OWI. The thing is we just need to get everyones address.

But add my name to the patition. Its time we the fans take action and we are not going to let IGN slur OWI.

Alcar 06-18-2004 04:19 AM

IGN are entitled to their opinions, and no matter what you do or say through emails or whatever, they aren't going to care. But I don't agree with them, Oddworld has a lot of technical know-how!

Alcar...

oddguy 06-18-2004 09:20 AM

I know...I'm not trying to change opinions.

I just think an e-mail would let them know that Oddworld has fans. Also, I think they should retract the statement about OWI not having technical know-how. I've come across multiple articles saying the exact opposite.

I'll see what happenes. I'm not going overboard with this though.

coupled with the company's previous lack of technical knowhow
Either this guy is from another plannet or he never played and seen anything about Oddworld. I never, EVER, saw a game back in the year 1996 that had such good graphics. Just last weekend I was browsing a game magazine which had a cover review of Abe's oddysee. I read the review, looked at the picture. Then for the fun of it I compared it to picture's from other 3D games...
Those picture's where, compared to Oddworld's Abe's Oddysee, plain out rubbish! And now this guy come's in saying OWI has no technical knowhow?! OWI started a revolution conerning game graphics!

Viva la Oddworld!

I agree wiv u havoc i had a issue of PS1 official back then and oddysee had great reviews compared to others and the graphics were excellent and i think that that guy is from another planet cause EVERYONE has played an oddworld game and they should not call the series down in the dumps!!!

Jacob 06-18-2004 10:37 AM

I agree with Alcar, i don't see why you are all acting like you've just been touched in your special places by a fat man, at the end of the day it is his opinion and, if OWI do become successful with their next games, he will be eating his words. As it were.

oddguy 06-18-2004 10:50 AM

True. You and Alcar are right. An e-mail wouldn't hurt though.

An E-mail would do nothing but make OW look worse, and oddworld fans look stupid.

Jesus, stop acting like little bitches about it. How irritated would you be if a bunch of pre-teen fan boys wrote you everytime you expressed your negative opinion about a game or company?

Just shut up.

Oddsville 06-18-2004 05:27 PM

If any of you are to write your disgust then I suggest that you just critique the writers article in a profesional manner. Like DI said, it'll just make us look bad if we all go and freak out. In the end it is his opinion however unbiased it is.

oddguy 06-19-2004 09:53 AM

Of course the e-mail will be professional. Our thoughts will be presented in a calm manner. Then, the names of the fans that agree to the e-mail will be below the letter.

-oddguy

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2004 11:13 AM

It's still a stupid idea.

Uh oh, I hope I don't get a petition from all of the forumers asking me to stop being so negative.

*prepares to sign a petition telling him not to be so negative*

I disagree with u its a great idea and i would happily join in.

Alcar 06-19-2004 05:36 PM

You can send the email if you want to, but the Oddworld Forums as a whole do not have anything to do with it. The words "Oddworld Forums" should not appear in the email, use only the names of those involved. I don't think I need to stress the legal implications of placing the OWF name in the email.

I would be interested to see their response, though. Could be amusing.

Alcar...

Wil 06-20-2004 04:51 AM

What ticks me off is that the guy is indeed registering his opinions. If he were talking on a Forum, as we are, or a message board, or in an opinions collumn, or a blog, or a review, then fine, he can diss OWI as much as he likes. But IGN is a news site, and what I despise is opinionated journalism. A reporter's job is to report, not to shove his ideas unto others, whether they're right or wrong.

Oh well. An email or letter is not going to make much of a difference, unless IGN somehow see themselves as losing popularity for offended a whole bunch of people. In which case maybe we can expect an apology back. Whoopie. *reverts to level-headedness*

Sekto Springs 06-20-2004 05:52 AM

Max is right, the best we can expect is an apology but it doesn't mean they'll alter the article, unless, like he said, they feel they're losing popularity to an extreme level.

Nate 06-20-2004 02:06 PM

okay, lets get logical about this. if you want to organise a petition, go to www.PetitionOnline.com and set it up. May I suggest that one of the mods go and do it (rather than 10 of you all set up your own one) and write a polite but firm letter to IGN telling them why they are wrong. We'll then all sign it and they'll realise that OWI still has fans that support them through thick and thin

Xavier 06-21-2004 12:53 AM

hmmmm, I let Max do it, he is far better then my to write polite maills :p

Cloverfield 06-21-2004 12:58 AM

Although it never hurts to try, sometimes sites just "ignore" such emails. I know it's rude, but going from personal experience I have contacted some larger organisations through email [both gaming and non-gaming] and just never had any kind of response.

Abe Babe...

Wil 06-21-2004 08:21 AM

Sure, I'll write an online petition if we think it's a good enough idea. Support for it so far seems to be hit-or-miss, which is understandable. If IGN ignore it, then there's no harm done. If they take us as a bunch of fanboys and fangirls, so what? And if they apologise, mission accomplished.

Just give me a few days.

oddguy 06-21-2004 08:30 AM

I trust you'll do a good job, Max.

oddguy = Matthew Mattingly, USA

And here are the other names we have thus far...

Xavier De Coster, Belgium

William Bunce, UK

Kai W. T. C. Fern, US

PA had his name up, but took it off later.

Any other people supporting this should add their names to the list.

Cloverfield 06-21-2004 08:31 AM

Wow ... the terms "fangirls" and "fanboys" is sneaking into the OW community now. I'd never heard it used over here up until a couple of days ago ... it's widely used in the FF and anime communities.

*realizes she's starting to destroy yet another topic since her return*

Abe Babe...

Sekto Springs 06-21-2004 08:52 AM

If they ignore us we'll just keep sending and sending until they finally say something.

Abe Babe...

It was used during the Schism a couple of years back. Looks like it never made the Forums then, but that's where I got the terms from. The opportunity to use them has arisen plenty of times since then, though.

SS, one thing I definitely will have no part in is re-sending the thing over and over. If they ignore it the first time, I'm off board. Pushing ourselves in front of their faces just won't do any good, plus I don't want to be unnecessarily annoying.

Cloverfield 06-21-2004 09:48 AM

Schism? Never mind. I am a self-confessed fan-girl. ;)

I agree w/ Max on the multiple sending ... sending something over and over is a bad thing. I remember hearing of people who would spam up OWI's email after the Xbox deal was made. It really doesn't give anyone a good impression, and if they're going to ignore you, then by sending over and over again ... well that's just going to make them think of you as some immature kid.

Abe Babe...

Sekto Springs 06-21-2004 10:19 AM

It was just a suggestion. It seems foolish and even childish but it honestly works (well, sometimes). But, what do you propose if they do not respond? Are we just going to give up and drop it?

Wil 06-21-2004 10:36 AM

Yes. Really, it's not that big a deal. We're all reacting to it strongly because we're so firmly pro-OWI. If they don't care about what we have to say, then there's no point in getting even more worked up about it.

oddguy 06-21-2004 11:24 AM

Agreed. No multiple sending. Just the one professional e-mail Max is going to write up. Sounds good to me. Even if IGN doesn't respond...we'll still know we did a good thing: defending OWI.
