The new smilies suck

These new emoticons look shit.

I want the old emoticons back.

Sekto Springs 05-21-2004 01:41 PM

I agree.

What the fuck is this!>>

a flock of seagulls 05-21-2004 01:46 PM

its a guy gettin a broom shoved up his anal region. your right these new ones suck

Sekto Springs 05-21-2004 02:06 PM

They totally blow! I mean they're lined with white pixels, look like crap, and we have no reason to make all these recent changes and such.

oddguy 05-21-2004 03:46 PM

Not all the smiles have changed...just the basic ones. I like them I guess...except for the white pixles lined around them. So unprofessional. :dodgy:

Also, I'm not really liking the new graphics lined up on the startup page.

Ditto. Why all the changes, it's starting to look like a normal forum, when this forum is anything but normal. Death........DEATH TO EVIL EMIOTICONS!

Majic 05-21-2004 07:13 PM

Silly people. We just upgraded to the newest verion of vB. Some of the smilies and other images probably just need to be updated. I'm sure Alcar will get on the case of replacing the cheesiness as soon as he can. Honestly, you thought this was all done on purpose? Of course not. They're undeniably horrible.

Alcar 05-21-2004 08:34 PM

When vBulletin 3 Gold was released, it had a completely new style. As such, when we upgraded yesterday, the new style and all the accompanying images were uploaded over the old ones. The white borders are the result of the new images being based on a white-ish background. When Abe Babe has time, she can easily remove the borders and change them to any colour through the use of a handy vBulletin image development kit.

As for the smiles, I like them.

Hobo 05-21-2004 09:48 PM

I don't. Peter. You're rubbish. *old tongue sticking out smilie*

Xavier 05-21-2004 11:13 PM

I prefer the old ones...
the white borders are just crap

Fez 05-22-2004 01:09 AM

I want the old ones. Who's bright idea was it to change them?

Oh that would be Alcar. For some reason we need the *latest* release candidate of vBulletin that doesn't perform or look any different than the last one.

:

As for the smiles, I like them.

You're outnumbered on that one. They look shit.

I mean, compare this one:
To one of mine:

Esus 05-22-2004 01:22 AM

I think the new envelope symbols, they're very nice, and I like the new smilies without the white pixels. I compeltely understand why they do have white pixels around them, IPB does the same.
The new ":p" is a bit crappy though... :(

Seargentbig 05-22-2004 02:03 AM

What? I can't see any white picels around the smiles...

I like Death's better than any of them. They're so wacky and dark.:fuzwink:

Thank god the fuzzle ones haven't changed.

Oddish 05-22-2004 02:56 AM

Only 4 of them have white out lines, the rest seem normal to me. Yeah does out lines look weird.

Here I'll upload the rest so you can use 'em.

Alcar 05-22-2004 04:05 AM

I don't know what is happening with the smilies. I'd say we'll keep the old ones, but, I still like the new ones. Anything with a gradient shade is cool in my opinion. Which is why I like the fuzzle smilies. It gives it a 3D effect. Better than a plain one-colour flat background effect.

Once again, the white background on all the images are not going to stay. I don't have access to the Image Development Kit, so I can't change them. Be patient.

Also, the reason we update, is to get the new features, improved systems, and fixed bugs. Whether you believe it or not, the updates include updated material. It might not be shown on the front-end, but it does on the back-end.

LOL there funny.

Sekto Springs 05-22-2004 05:09 AM

I love them, but I still think we should stick with Death's wicked grey ones. They rule, and honestly I think that multicoloured smilies look a little....um...messy and incoherant.

I like the multi-colored ones! Anyway, can't we have both death's smiles and the cool colored ones? Like, in user CP you could change which styles you want to use. Is that possible?

-oddguyhttp://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...tid=1900&stc=1

Hehe.

Yeah it's very possible, I see no reason why we couldn't use my smilies, the fuzzles, the animated smilies AND the new smilies - giving people a choice.

Allowing people to choose in their CP which emoticon sets they would like would possibly require additional coding unless this is a feature that can be enabled. Although having lots of smilies doing the same expression is very possible, they wouldn't all be able to use the same syntax, meaning that some people would have to memorise different syntax than what they are used to.

Alcar 05-22-2004 08:28 PM

We could have multiple smilies, but it would make it an incoherent mess. Rather the one smilie for one "code". Once again, be patient, Abe Babe is still doing the necessary changes for the revamped Industrial style.

Alcar...

You just don't get this do you?

We don't want your fucking lame smilies - we want DECENT fun ones that make people laugh and really show expressions.

So far we don't have a "wtf" smily, a "suspect" smily, a "bang head" smily, a "silly" smily, a "what the... hahahah!" smily... I mean come on we NEED these things and they ARE relatively simple to add.

I don't see why you should object to adding more smilies so much. You could just use :wtf: for the "wtf" smily and :suspect: for the "suspect" smily, and :banghead: for the "bang head" smily... and :spin: for the "spinning head" smily... I see NO reason why it should be a problem at all...

Alcar 05-23-2004 01:27 AM

Because I don't handle the smilies, Death. Abe Babe handles the styles, as she is undoubtably 10 to the power of 23 times better than I am at creating them :p

If she feels fit to add them, fine. But in my opinion, we really have too many. It'd be better if we limited them to the old 15 or so.

Alcar...

Teal 05-23-2004 02:00 AM

Besides, even if you have 100 smilies, you'll end up only using about 5. ;) Just look at TSR... *innocent*

Although catslug rocks. Everyone needs a catslug. Or a dancing chicken.

I quite like the new smilies, but then there's not many in this world I don't like in the first place.

What the fuck? That's cool.

Codek 05-23-2004 02:56 AM

I don't think the issue here is having "too many smilies". The users deserve to be able to choose the smilies they want to use. Hardly like a few extra smilies is going to eat up all your bandwidth.

Alcar 05-23-2004 03:00 AM

I doubt they will eat up our bandwidth. But a forum is comprised of more than that simple issue. There are aesthetics. Too many smilies, and they don't get used. There's no point, and the serve for no reason.

Alcar...

But they will get used... that's the point... we need to get rid of these crappy bland smilies and replace them with decent new ones like the ones I posted. Smilies that show expression...

Alcar 05-23-2004 03:04 AM

I think the ones we have show expression :| They all seem the same to me. The only difference being choice of colour and gradient.

Alcar...

Teal 05-23-2004 04:14 AM

Hm. No offence, but I don't think Death's are BETTER than the ones we have here already, just different. If you want new smilies, there's nothing to stop you putting them on your own site and hosting them from there, like Dragadon/Sl'askia and myself did when we had made our own. The whole purpose of a smilie was originally just to show you weren't being serious and tirggering a flame war in the first place.

Majic 05-23-2004 11:50 AM

I must agree with Teal. And besides, they're just smilies. All they need to do is express an emotion. I don't like being at silly forums where there are overly used, colorful little teletubby style things. The grey ones, i admittidly like. But, as Teal said, you can easily just link to them...

And how do you suggest we remember every single link and its' corresponding emoticon eh?

Sekto Springs 05-23-2004 12:18 PM

I'm going to use my mini-moose emoticon from now on...http://www.inhousemedia.net/mf/moose.gif
