Steef might just be a game and actually a full legnth movie.
I was reading through dear Alf and the inhabitants interviews of this month and for me I got the impression that Steef might be a movie as well as the game too. heres the answer that made me think of that:
Alf: Hello Eduardo! An Oddworld RPG? I wouldn't rule it out, but we definitely aren't working on it at the moment. The focus right now is on that Stranger you saw on the Discovery Channel and possibly a motion picture. Thats intresting to here Alf mention a motion picture especially when he was refering to Steef. Could this mean OWI is also working on its first movie? I know it sounds far fetched because the first movie would be AO. But if Steef is going to be the next level in gameing from what we hear with OWI, they could be ready to take on two productions. This will make better sense, could they be working on Abe's Oddessy the motion picture at the same time as they are in production of the Steef game? OWI has come a long ways since the early days of AO and AE. They have a lot of technology where they could pull a movie and a game off at the same time. In that type of business squeezing in productions like that is common. You can have a company working on two different productions. Its possible its been done with ILM. |
Dude, the whole movie production thing was already realized by most of us...calm down...
And about the whole movie thing, I seriously doubt Steef will be a game AND a movie. It's most likely Abe's Oddysee. |
When was this realised I don't remember?
Paramiteabe...:fuzblink: |
People have been talking about it for a while in this thread...
|
When I read the last sentence of that excerpt it sounds like they'll possibly make a motion picture of Steef, but they're talking about a motion picture in general.
|
Thats what I was trying to say Steef might be a motion picture aswell as a game. On the X-Factor the poster for Steef looks like a movie poster. I wonder if that will happen?
Paramiteabe...:fuzblink: |
I'm sure OWI will make a movie of Steef, but I doubt it will be the first one.:fuzblink: But, then again, we pretty much don't know what is going on, so all we can do is speculate.
-oddguy:fuzcool: Read banner. Obey banner. Buy me a car. |
I am pretty sure the first movie will NOT be about Steef. The Oddworld storyline began with Abe, and so far he is the best character to represent it.

I mean in the future.:fuzblink: I totally agree with you that OWI should concentrate on the quintology.
-oddguy:fuzcool: |
The Quintology started with Abe. I think the films should too. It would be so cool to see how they would make AO into an actual feature film. Plus Abe was the first hero, and he has become a basic icon when someone thinks about oddworld, so it only makes sense to introduce him on screen the way they did in 97 when AO first came out.
|
I bet they'll have a sequence at the end of the movie that show all the stuff ups, even though the entire movie is pre-meditated (so much like Oddworld).
|
Who said the OW films will be based on the Quint? I hope they're not. Sure, have referrences to the games and maybe cameo's but don't base them around the games.
|
I agree, they couldn't remember EVERYTHING Abe did and said, but it is worth a shot

I agree the films should be of the Oddworld Quintology, as was always planned. A series of five films would show the Oddworld universe and story in so much more detail, beauty and darkness, and wouldn't have to stick with simple running/jumping/rolling, as the majority of the game's story does. There'd also be the chance to tie-up things that were heavily disliked about the games (thinking mostly about MO here) and set down a standard cannon for the story. |
well, i think they should use the fmvs of the games then fill in the gaps with more CGI action.
example between abes moon and bigface giving scars they're should be like a whole 40 minutes between them, seeing how abe going through paramonian and scrabanian temples was the bulk of the game. |
Yeah, and meybe we see how Abes life was before he escaped, how he got emplotee of the month and stuff like that...
|
My guess is that in the Paramonian Parts and Scrabanian parts they'd have Abe come across small villages of Native Mud's which they then tell him where to go or tell him of Mudokon past, etc. This would help deepen and lengthen the story.
|
The one thing that gets me is why does everybody think that Oddworld has to strictly be about the Mudokon race and Abe? Yes he is the savior of his race and the most important character of the quintology, But one thing we have forgotten is that Oddworld is huge.We only scratched the surface with Munch and Abe. Oddworld is about the inhabitants that live there not just the stories of the Mudokons. Its a biosphere of stories viewed through the eyes of the inhabitants wraped up in a cornacopia of games and movies. The quintology itself may actually be 20 games plus movies for all we know since AE was a bonus game and it was really part of AO's story. Now we come to Munch whome could have 3 bonus games all together and maybe a movie. Think of it! Now we are side tracking from the quintology and exploreing some of the other inhabitants that don't play a role in the destanys of the characters of the quintolgy are happening at the same time of the events of the quintology and that is Steef.
So why is it wrong to have a movie based on Steef before the movies of the quintology come out. Change is good people. Oddworld is about an alive expierence and the future can very well become a combination of games and movies that tell the stories. Thats what I like about it.:D |

Why do they have to base the movies on games? Is it necessary? So far i haven't played more than one game that would be good to convert into a movie. And that one game is 'Dead to Rights'. Rubbish gameplay but the story is very well done. Besides, what makes you all think people will want to go and see a movie based on Aliens? And they're not even "scary" Aliens. On a sidenote 'Underworld' looks thooper!! |

|
Err no...what do OWI's know!? Think about it...just, just think.
|
I say 20 games because the concept of Oddworld is very complex in the interaction of the inhabitants. A total of five games with tons of bonus games to go along with them and maybe movies to explan that depth of the odd. Five games alone I don't think will fully explore that idea. Ok maybe I over exagerated there how does ten games sound? Five Oddessy games and five bonus games. But yet some games we hear might have more than one bonus game. I don't know!
|
I hope the games are long enough to show the main "depth of Odd", as you put it, in its entirity. I like long games, they're thooper. Like 'Dead to Rights' for example. Crap gameplay, long, good story. The story was the best part about it. Same with Buffy, but that was a better game cos of the gameplay. So yeh, hopefully their next games will be immensly long with different scenario's for different actions etc
|
I really can't wait for a movie to come out... I'm tired of replaying the same movie clips, I just wanna press play and watch everything through seemlessly for an hour or two.
|
I agree with Jacob, all the next games doesn't have to be like the MO StoryLine... a bit more in depth woud be great
|
i disagree i dont know why but ive got a bad feeling about that
