Taking Up Space, Thats right People who don't post, twenty pages of cra........

Thats right I checked the member list today and I found twenty pages of people who haven't posted a single thing for months. I know it may not be their faults but some of these people such as big butt, oddworldsucksshock and all the names are taken, really should go they are taking up space in our Community, its one thing for maybe a couple of months, but four to six, come on thats just ridiculous. But I am merely a concerned member,
the course of action must be in the hands of the administraters.

Thank you for your time

Sincerely, Al the Vykker

MunchOnThis 03-30-2002 11:16 PM

I agree with you al, what's the point of joining when you're not gonna post??!!! :fuzblink:

sligface202 03-31-2002 12:25 AM

That is true. Why register if your just gonna be a couch potato!

mitsur 03-31-2002 01:26 AM

Yeah!Al is the best!

Sl'askia 03-31-2002 02:05 AM

I agree...it is ridiculous that these peeps register...but never post. If ya want to register to a board...only do so if you are REALLY going to post there...
And if you decide to leave the board for good...email/PM an admin requesting that they delete that account.
Sheesh...it sounds like common sense to me...

Spider: A lot of peeps don't seem to have common sense...

Or at least don't practice it...*sigh*

Alcar 03-31-2002 02:12 AM

I agree with that fact that there are too many dormant members, but deleting members takes time, something which the Admins do not have a lot of, keep this in mind.

Alcar...

paramiteabe 03-31-2002 03:52 AM

Thats true Al I notice that too when everyday I see new people that are joined in. The thing is I never see them posting any topics ever. They join and they just don't use the site. That should be a new rule. If you join you have a certain window of time to decide weather your going to use the site or not. If you don't post in that time period you will be thrown out. ;)

abe22 03-31-2002 04:07 AM

I agree. I think if, when they first join and they don't post a thing in one week they should get an email saying that their account will be deleted if they do not post in the next week or two or something along them lines. They should get two or three weeks to reply to that message or something similar to that. If they don't reply to that message or start posting their account should automatically be deleted. Well that's what I think anyway.

Pilot 03-31-2002 07:35 AM

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspI have no problems with dormant members whatsoever. The member accounts take such a miniscule amount of space that it doesn't even matter whether or not someone joins. Besides, most of you are probably not aware of the technical background of such an automated notification system. It would be major overkill!

Niteowl 03-31-2002 08:18 AM

I only post if I have something substantial to say...I don't want to just post spam posts.
So I may lurk for quite some time..Or I might be out for a while if I have comp trouble...I'd be pissed if my account got deleted because of that..

MunchOnThis 03-31-2002 08:44 AM

If you want to join you have to post Nuff said. Anyhow there is another munch On This.....I think...

Precicely!

I've posted once on the Battleground: Halo Forums but do they delete me for my relative inactivity? No.

Pilot seems to have more common sense than the rest of you lot put together. Either that or he has a more in-depth understanding of the way the forums work.

Jacob 03-31-2002 11:46 AM

Dont have a problem...and i dont c y n e 1 else shud really.

Aye, you are also right Gluk Schmuck. Good Point man.

Do you want an organized forum, or unorganized that haven't even posted once to say hi or even respond to an off topic discussion, I know I should be alittle easier but just give me a break!

There are two extremes of user behaviour on forums in terms of post counts;
  • Theory X members who only post when they feel they can contribute to a topic and;
  • Theory Y members who post whenever they have nothing better to do.

(Just call me Tom McGregor! :D)

Which members would you prefer this forum to be filled with?
I'd prefer Theory X members.

sligface202 03-31-2002 09:34 PM

Al,i think you should PM Sydney or Abe Babe about this! Then, that could be a new rule.

Doug 03-31-2002 10:39 PM

This issue never, ever comes up with normal use of the forums. The only reason you would be aware of the fact that there are so many members with few or no posts is if you look at the member list; how often does anyone do that? And if you sort it by the number of posts, you don't ever have to get to the few or zero posters. This is a paper tiger, a complete non-issue.

Hurray for Theory X! (Wait... this isn't really contributing, so does that make me a Y?) :D

You're a Z, SeaRex. ;)

Al the Vykker 04-01-2002 12:01 AM

I'm talking about the people who haven't posted for moths not even one post!

Melvin:squeeking paramite 04-01-2002 12:06 AM

The point...?

I don't really see a point in any of this... It's pretty annoying that there are so many accounts never been used, but why should an admin delete them all? It would just give them more work to do, waste their time and be pointless, really. I have no idea why people join then never post, but why delete them all...? Maybe some will come back and post... I know it's unlikely but why take the time to delete so many accounts?

And Luke... You would have to be someone who manages to post in every single topic... Scary, really. I suppose that's a Z...

Because they;
  • Have nothing to say,
  • Decide they don't like the forum,
  • Are too timid,
  • Die, if you belive all the death notices.

Doug 04-01-2002 11:53 AM

I think a lot of people come for help on a game, and once they get it they're gone for good. That doesn't explain the zero-posters, but I think it does some of the ones with very low post counts.

I know that I had no intention of using the forums except for help with AO. I stayed after poking around a little on the other forums out of curiousity and found the nut jobs running around here highly entertaining. ;)

Jacob 04-01-2002 12:03 PM

Wot i find ALOT more annoying than people who dont post are people who do post, but post about rubbish...I.E Al. And second to annoying are the 13 - yr olds who encourage them by saying 'Well said' or 'Good point' when it really isn't. Sort it out children.

Al the Vykker 04-01-2002 12:50 PM

Merley Jacob, why do you have to post this to me when it is nothing better said then I? If you don't have something that at least is constructive critisism then don't even bothering saying it! I merely gave an opinion thats all!

Majic 04-01-2002 02:52 PM

Jacob, I wonder if you ever try to think of why people don't really consider you their friend... One that was very arrogant and untrue, I haven't seen AL go and post about nothing like Abes Son or Papya or Nads...(which is not aimed as an insult) I wouldn't really think you wouload sink to insulting the other forumers outright, you make it blatantly clear that you don't like people like Surf but I've never seen you og and insult people...

EDIT: I'm so sorry, I think I forgot to post what I think is annoying. Shorthand, stupid posts that go off the right hand side of the screen, and people who don't admit there wrong. I think its stupid the people never post, but its OK, if you wanna find a specific person just sort it by the alphabet...

Your saying 13 year olds are annoying????? I'm 13 and so what if they say well said or good point,in their opinion it's a good/bad point.O.K??
And leave Al alone he doesn't post rubbish, you shouldn't be so negative of others opinions.

Al the Vykker 04-01-2002 03:09 PM

Thankyou Munchy! I have a very great insight to Oddworld. and I am 14 and a half I have gained much knowledge in that time and one thing is Rubbish is something that I do not post I post what true insight I have. Unlike you Jacob.
