Who Was Driving The Train?

In the intro to AE there is a part where Abe and his friends are walking across a desert. There is an overhead rail line above them and a train starts traveling towards them, they panic and dive to the floor and the train drives above them where a bone falls out of a truck.

My question is who or what would be driving the train? Would it be a Slig? If it was a Mudokon then how would that work since I thought all of the Mudokons at Necrum mines were blind so they didn't know what they were mining. I understand there are normal Mudokons in the game at Necrum Mines but still I thought the idea or blinding them was so they didn't know what they were mining.

Phylum 06-11-2011 03:46 AM

The train driver might not have to see his cargo.

Dynamithix 06-11-2011 05:17 AM

Why did you make a new thread about it? The "Oddworld Questions & Answers" thread is there for a reason.

Nate 06-11-2011 05:20 AM

Because it's a question without a definite answer and plenty of room for speculation.

I think they run automatically. But why couldn't it be a slig? They do more than just guarding duties.

OK then, split all such questions out of all Q&A threads.

Crashpunk 06-11-2011 05:50 AM

Yeah a Slig driver does seem right. Glukkons won't and couldn't

STM 06-11-2011 05:50 AM

Ah shut the fuck up back seat mods and angry real mod.

I always reckoned it's a slig but that doesn't explain why said slig allows Abe onto his train when he travels to Slig Barracks, Soulsorm Brewery and Bonewerkz.

JennyGenesis 06-11-2011 05:59 AM

I assumed that there was nobody on the train and that Abe simply stole it.

moxco 06-11-2011 06:42 AM

I always assumed it was automated. If the industrials could program the snoozer (or what ever it's called) and the greeter, I doubt making a train run along a track by itself would be that hard.

The only real reason (most) trains on earth still have drivers is for safety - something glukkons don't appeared to concerned about

JennyGenesis 06-11-2011 07:48 AM

They could be automated. The only sign I can see of a window for the driver to see out of would be the orange lights. Sounds bizarre but they could be windows and headlights.

I assumed the driver was in the observatory mounted on top.

Dipstikk 06-11-2011 09:00 AM

It was actually Abe's acting coach who piloted the train. He also threw that bone at him, hoping to beam them with it. He was bitter because despite months and months of training, they all still acted as if they were performing for kindergartners. He was ruined, and was sent to Necrum as punishment.

but they still let him drive the choo-choo because they are not complete and total cocks

:D

I thought that was just the exhaust.

Am I looking at the same top-mounted observatory you are? That's some pretty detailed and mechanical-looking exhaust.

JennyGenesis 06-11-2011 09:07 AM

DOH! I didn't mean exhaust! I meant radiator.

Sekto Springs 06-11-2011 09:08 AM

The exhaust is clearly coming out the back. You know... where exhaust usually comes out. There's an air horn on top of the observatory, if that's what you're referring to.

EDIT: Radiator? What? I'm talking about the thing thats obviously an observatory tower jutting out of the trains "forehead".

Yeah, hey, wait a minute.

If Abe's an internationally wanted terrorist, how is it possible for him to go from level to level in a train without being noticed?

Those things MUST be automated.

Or there's a suspenseful game of hide-and-seek going on inside the trains that we never get to see.

Sekto Springs 06-11-2011 09:16 AM

Not necessarily. Train conductors usually never see who's boarding, and it's the job of the hosts to check tickets and manage the passengers. The Feeco rails don't seem to have any hosts, or tickets, or any actual security around the trains themselves.

JennyGenesis 06-11-2011 09:23 AM

Yes I can see the big tower coming out of the forehead but at the bottom of the tower there appears to be a grill where I thought a radiator might be.

Sekto Springs 06-11-2011 09:40 AM

Maybe to keep the conductor warm? I can't see the practical applications of a radiator. It was probably Farzad just filling space with mechanical flotsam.

Dipstikk 06-11-2011 09:46 AM

ALSO, SINCE THE TRAINS IN THOMAS THE TRAIN ARSE ALL HAVE HUMAN FACES, DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE FEE-CO TRAINS ALL LEAD SECRET LIVES OF TEDIUM AND SPEAK TO ONE ANOTHER WITHOUT MOVING THEIR LIPS?

And George Carlin narrates their lives.

FROM BEYOND THE GRAAAAAVE

Hi nate

STM 06-11-2011 10:50 AM

OH SHIT GUYZ!

Sanssouci 06-11-2011 10:57 AM

Who is driving? Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

It would be pretty awesome if you got to play inside the train, sneaking around trying to get through it undetected.

Considering it's size, I can't imagine it would be a very engaging level. Maybe Abe possesses the conductor?

Mr mudokon 06-11-2011 01:26 PM

Maybe..

maybe its something we will never know!

It would be sweet if it was a level you were in while the train travels to the different locations.

Jordan 06-11-2011 01:44 PM

I didn't think of the size. Imagine stretching it to form a decent level, I'd have enjoyed that!

Am I the only person who noticed the mud standing at the door?

EDIT: Okay, I think. that might be Abe. But why would there be a door to train that just transports cargo?

Phylum 06-11-2011 04:23 PM

Especially if it's automated.

STM 06-11-2011 04:26 PM

I always wondered why the feeco trains don't have carriages...do you just sit in the actual train?
