To keep the decency of the Oddworld Forums, may I suggest that we ban the usage of foul language and sexually inappropriate content for a safe and secure society?:fuzsmile:

I think this forum is made better by our willingness to openly use enriching swears and discuss the less socially acceptable things in life. Also, such a rule would crumble in the first day.

I think it takes away some of the pleasures in life, having to see foul language on half the posts in this forum.

The problem here is that such matters are subjective. How about you create a list of what words are acceptible and what should be banned? Also define some way of defining what is innappropriate content. Then we'll consider it.

I don't mind anything else, but I agree with Stan. I think this place needs to tidy up (just a bit).

Given the average age of the more active members, I'd say we've found a balance between inappropriate remarks and what not.

Why do they bother you so much?

How do you define disgusting and disturbing? I mean, would this preclude discussion of topics such as zoophilia or masturbation (both of which have been successful topics in the past)? At what point does a silly joke become disguisting and/or disturbing?

I don’t mind swearing as long as it's not over-used. Swear words are just strong adjectives (in most cases) used to express deep emotions (usually, but not always those that are negative).

And as to sexual references I would completely hate it if these forums adopted the sex-taboo of most societies. Sex is merely an act in which both parties experience great pleasure and in some cases a new organism comes into existence. What is unsafe and insecure about this? I personally find it biologically fascinating.

It seems like most of the "foul language" is found in Off-Topic. So, if we want to give a good first impression, I think we'll be fine as prospective members aren't coming for the Off Topic section. Plus, even in Off Topic, it seems like this kind of speech generally stays within the more flippant threads.

Come on, you're gonna hear foul language almost everywhere, it's real life. Lessening the use of it will make things around here boring. If you don't like it, just avoid the places where it's most common. You joined this site because it's the Oddworld Forums, if you focus on Oddworld Discussion, you aren't going to encounter whatever it is you don't like. Spending time in Off-Topic then moaning that there's too much swearing is stupid, if you don't like it, then don't go there, it's easy enough.

It's a much worse place than this.

I occasionally go on a forum that's far, far worse. Not only does it have a spam filter that won't let you make a post containing the word "grape", but it's against the rules to tell anyone your name or age - not sure about gender.

It used to be a really great place, but it's degenerated since I joined.
