In our own minds we are invariably the hero. We see ourselves as imbued with logic, and the people surrounding us as needing the benefit of it. In fact, we are more like animals than we care to admit. When complimented or given the opportunity we will puff up with pride and attempt to manufacture similar circumstances where we can be the hero again. A victory is a victory, be it large or small. When confronted we lash out and attack.

I have been reading a lot of my old posts. To my own horror, for the most part. I have been a giant dick. A giant, glistening cock who aimed to destroy who ever came in my sights with my superior intellect. Unfortunately, my intellect isn't so superior. I'm closing in on 30, working in an industry that I never had the slightest bit of interest in, with no room to advance. I have advanced as far as I can go. I am on the board of directors in a company that does something I could give a shit less about. I have half assed my way through almost everything and the only reason I have succeeded at this is the fact that people of even moderate intelligence don't even attempt my job. They have better things in store. And through all of this I have still considered myself to be better than you. I am not. I'm a fuck up and I never should have treated most of you the way I have. Were I not a fuck up I still should never have acted the way I did.

It's legitimately only applicable to my online persona. I for some reason cultivated this personality here that I have never really had in real life. I mean, I have the same sense of humor but I am always careful to avoid making people feel bad about themselves. But then I come here and I'm like "Hey, you're a fucking moron". I think it has more to do with the facelessness of the internet than with a fear of reprisal. I have little to fear in the way of bodily harm from most people. It's just that I didn't really see most of you as real people. You were merely the means to me feeling better about myself. And I don't feel good about that. I think I always knew it. I just didn't let myself see it.

I think it's a good thing made even more respectable by the fact that you really didn't need to for us, because we put up with you like that anyway.
