Save your CD:s

A tip for you all:

If you are afraid of getting your Oddworld CD:s damaged, install the games and then copy the whole content of the cd(s) into the install directory.

All those files fit on a normal cd, and can be run without a cd in the drive.

mlg man 10-28-2007 07:00 PM

OddYouko 11-05-2007 05:14 AM

AlienMagi 11-05-2007 08:42 AM

No worry.I can download the new one.

Paul 11-05-2007 09:32 AM

Which would be illegal, also CD's only last for about 25-30 years, after that nothing will read them anymore.

Excuse me, but I'm downloading AO, I know I am a "pirate", but I need it and I can't find it in the web!!!!!! The last AO in eBay (Italian) was that I've bought one year ago. Then I delte my downloaded games, I don't keep them in my PC.

I have no idea why did Max edited my post...And why would that be disrespectful? I actually want to give an advice from..... <---(I won't finish, so Max won't delete)

MeechMuncher 11-05-2007 01:17 PM

I have bought all oddworldgames so far, including the old PC-ones which were hard to come by in sweeden, and I just think that It feels safe not to have to use the original cd:s everytime u play them. I know pirating is wrong and that you "steal" money from the gamemakers, but if the games are bought second hand they don't get any more money, and if the games arn't sold anymore then there is no way to buy them from the original gamemakers, so should it not be legalized to download discontiniued software, like old DOS-games and some ATARI-roms? or am I completley wrong?

Anyway this is not a pirating discussion, but a helptopic for saving your data in a playable state.

You are an idiot. Of course I will delete it, because OWF has a responsibility to prevent illegal downloading wherever possible. This includes deleting references to sites which allow you to do this, and our devotion to protecting this interest stretches to officially reprimanding members who violate this rule.

Hence you are being officially reprimanded, which, given your existing two reprimands, means you have a week‐long ban to enjoy. MoxCo. Executive and abe is now!, you also get one each for infracting. You silly three.

You’re talking of abandonware, and while a desire to see people enjoying Oddworld is shared by me, the fandom at large, and even Oddworld Inhabitants, it doesn’t make it any more acceptable. OWI were looking not so long ago to re‐release AO and AE on the PSP. It would not help sales of the game (and hence their profits, and hence the amount of investment investers and publishers are willing to give OWI to make future games, films, merchandise, ete.) if people can download the games freely, or have already done so.

Ya didn't understand me and I didn't explain me well: I downloaded AO just one time and it was an error! I needed absolutely it only to try the english version of the game: I ask to OWI (if they will know it) to forgive me, I am not downloading any game now (I wrote a wrong thing) and I delted the game.
Anyway I have AO and AE for PS1 and I bought them.
I ask to you to forgive me, because I didn't want to offend OWI and other people.
So, sinecerely, excuse me.

Hobo 11-06-2007 04:58 AM

OWI does not forgive and does not forget. EVER.

LaraRaider 11-23-2007 12:16 PM

I made a ISO copy to my harddisk
3 Cd copys of AO and 3 for AE too.
More 1 of AO and AE, to keep on my "secret room".

Havoc 11-23-2007 03:18 PM

In response to the downloading thing, IMO if you once bought the game it's fine by me to download a copy should you have lost the disc or something. You still paid for it, if you get the game content from a website or a CD is irrelevant beyond that point.
That said, games like AO and AE are hard to get as it is, even by download.

I agree, but in fact, its still breaking the law.

I agree too, but if I lost the CD I don't have the right to download the game.
Let's stop with this, the tittle hasn't nothing about piracy.

If you upload IS.
If you own the game isn't.
Isn't safe making a ISO, if you format the hard drive you know what happens.

abe is now! 11-24-2007 02:03 AM

And if I burn the image? Is it illegal?

Havoc 11-24-2007 02:58 AM

As far as I know, making/downloading a backup of a contentholder you already own (CD, DVD, HDD) for personal use is very much legal, no matter where the backup comes from. Remember that downloading itself isn't illegal, uploading is. And if the cops do show up because you downloaded something, if you can show your AO box then they won't have a leg to stand on.

Breaking the copyright.
You can't copy your own cd. Just make a ISO (if you own the game).
Is like, you make a copy of AO and sell it. So don't

Ack, read your EULA's people you CAN NOT copy your own game for a backup if you own the orignal disc or not, you can't upload it (you'd have broken the first point if you did this anyway), you can't resell it, you can't decompile it.
In short, if your disc is broken you have to buy a new one, it seems unfair but thats the way it is.

It depends on the laws of the country. In some places, backing up a disk that you own legally is allowable under fair use but in others it's illegal but generally not prosecuted.

Software comes with it owns terms in the EULA though, I bet if you translate all the others they say exactly the same thing as the english one ;)

And if I copy the CD with Alcohol 120% (for example) and then I move my hard disk to another PC and then I use the game there?

ParamiteSurprise 11-29-2007 10:12 AM

So... Its legal to copy it and backup a disk, as long as you Do Not Sell it?

Yes. And don't give to someone who doesn't own the game.

Microsoft says: "Do not transfer OEM software to other computer."
