AO, AE, MO or SW?
There was one of these threads not that long ago. but that got old and out of date and there are new members now anyways.
Heres the question: [drumroll please....], "what do you think the best oddworld game is?" |
Munch's Oddysee i like.
Exoddus too. |
SW, hands down, because it's completely new take on the OW franchise.
Awesome story, too. |
Jeeze that's a hard one. I'd have to say Abe's Oddysee. That started it all for me.
|
Is this really necessary? Abe's Exoddus gets my vote.
|
I couldn't decide, so I voted for liking 'em all the same.
|
for me, abes oddysee started it for me. It had that gritty, scary and slight isolated feel to it, which is what i love about.
|
Well, this is kinda hard to decide since they were all good in so many different ways, but I'd definitely have to say Abe's Oddysee. It just has the distinct atmosphere of Oddworld that no other game could replicate. Not to mention the art -- everything looks so realistic and nothing is out of place.
AE, though, probably is the one for diversity. Gameplay expanded to very different levels, and other possibilites were explored, what with such things as possessing wildlife creatures, Mud emotions, exploding farts, etc. and all. MO, imo, is on one level with AO in regards to the storyline. Munch is a character for whom you really feel, since he was just a victim of circumstances. But I didn't vote since I really can't decide. |
I’m going to allow this. The last discussion held about our favourite of the four may not have been so long ago, but the last poll held was a great many months back.
What originally drew me to Oddworld was the atmosphere and soulfulness of Abe’s Oddysee, and I agree with Skillya that it’s a truly fine essence that I don’t feel has been replicated in subsequent games. It can still strike me with its quirky charm, even after almost a decade of playing. |
I voted for Munch's Oddysee, reasons being because:
I liked the story. At the time, I was fascinatd by the gameplay. I love the soundtrack. I loved the graphics. I loved the Fuzzles. I liked the, well, sickness of the Vykkers. Don't ask me why. It was interesting to see the newer industrial creatures such as Interns. I liked possessing slogs. I liked making my mudokons beat/shoot the crap out of the 'land muggers'. It was the first game I got for Xbox. I almost chose Abe's Oddysee, then nearly chose Abe's Exoddus, then I thought "Nah" and chose Munch's Oddysee, as it has one more reason than the others. Not a good reason to choose, but, still. Althouhg I agree with what has been said, Abe's Oddysee does have an atmosphere that can probably never be achieved again. The atmosphere in the Stockyards (escape) uneased me when I first played the level. |
I voted that I loved them all the same, because I haven't played them all, and each one has a certain quality unique to it and makes it hard to choose.
|
I like AE and SW the same (gameplay)
but the best mood is of cource in AO so I voted for AE :p |
They're all god, IMHO.
|
It all depends on what you are asking from us. Do you want to know which story we like best, which game has the best gameplay? What?
The first two games get my vote for story for sure. Gameplay... I can't really decide. |
I wish I could have voted for two games. Actually, I like AO and SW the same. Oh, well...
|
I voted for AO because it started my liking of Oddworld. I mean, if I never got AO, I would've said something like, "What the hell is Oddworld?". Oh, and I hate to be all petty, but you spelled Oddysee wrong.
|
Abe's Exoddus. :)
I always liked 2D game better than 3D ones, and I really hate XBox and Microsuck. Abe's Oddysee is a really good one too, they both have great advantages. (Farts, Mine car, quick saves and more creatures to posses for AE, Elum, Bells, Bees and Passwords for AO) I Choose AE because AO lacks for quick saves and creatures to posses, and I really like the mine car and farts. (Yet I still miss Elum :() |
I voted for Abe's Exoddus^^
|
I can easily say Abe's Exoddus. It took the first one and just expanded the world. It really showed just how deep Oddworld is. The satirical marketing slogans and evil corportation theme was brought to comical new heights and the mystical civilization of the Mudokens was shown much more closely. Abe's Exoddus is what made me fall in love with the world, not just the game.

I think that it would have been really cool if you could mount him, ride over to a Mud, and have the Mud hop on so you could take him to safety.:p |
Definitely Abe's Oddysee. That's what got things rolling in the first place, it's the original and no other Oddworld game has managed to live up to it in the same way. That's one reason, but another is that I still remember playing it as a kid. I must've been about 10, maybe 11 years old when I first played it. Still remember the genuine feeling of the Odd. :)

No you can't. MO is the only game in which you can possess slogs.
|
I like them all the same. And the possessing slogs, snuzi's right, there's no way to in AO and AE. Yet, in AE, in the Boiler, when the slogs are after you, if you quick save when the slogs get zapped, and quikload, and the slogs won't be able to kill you for a few seconds or minutes. But still, I like all Oddworld games the same, they all have good points and bad points.
|
AO.
wildness especialy.... so real.. so dark... At ae everything is mixed.. i dunno.... .... to much things on one screen... |
I have to agree that AO is really realistic.
In AE the only realistic parts are the first levels. Yet when it comes to gameplay AE is the winner for me. I hope OI will see that poll and make another 2D game, or some extension for AO/AE, or even a level editor! :D |

AO for the same reason as everyone else, namely the feel of a plutocratic hell.
|
I can't say why I chose all of them because that would just end up with a huge wall of text.
AO captured my heart. AE continued to keep the flame alight, but it was quite miraculous in itself. MO wasn't the game I wanted it to be, but that didn't stop it from making me love all these new characters. SW freaked me out, but showed me that it was still Odd in the end. |
I love all them! I love them good!
But really, I can't decide. AO has it's unique dakr tone, AE was fun to play with since it had quiksaving and all the extra stuff, MO was fun because it had a new character, a new story, and new gameplay, and SW was so different and such a fun first/third person shooter that I enjoyed it very much. I voted on option #5. I love them all the same... |
