Did anyone try to run AO and AE under Vista?
I am thinking about getting the new Windows Vista system. I am just bored i guess cause its a useless thing to get, being a Mac OS X user (Windows fans: Vista is impressive i admit but im Mac-fan).
Anyway. I will only get it if someone can confirm that both AO and AE run under it well. So please keep me posted please. Thanks. |
Dont get vista till versoin 2 comes out, v1 will have to many errors and crap trust me wait till version 2 comes out.
|
Actually, systems with Vista already installed work fine. It's the systems that you attempt to install Vista on that spawn errors.

Microsoft made Vista securer than XP, so it's probably just your PC!! |
Actually, ive heard about bugs associated with this young version of Vista as well Jonder_Boi. I guess its the same story as it was with XP: a few Service Packs and it will be working fine.
I agree with you too Snuzi. Its more hardver-softwer compatibility issues than Vista itself. But than Microsoft is cutting its own rope because most home users will not buy high end hardware setups... It would be smart for Microsoft to come out with their own hardware configs like Apple does, built for their systems. Thats why im a Mac-fan. Pretty much seamless hardware-software communication. But anyway, this thread is not to bring down Microsoft or Vista, nor it is to make Apple look nice. Please try and stay focused on my question, that is all im interested in. Thanks. |
No trust me wait till servise pack 2 comes out.
|
OK, OK, OK Ill wait till that stinkin think comes out! But does it run AE and AO??? please, answer my question!
|
I dont know, It should though.
|
Seeing that AO and AE were never programmed with Windows Vista in mind, there is actually little reason why they should work. Many installations of XP, for instance, refuse to run either game. Although I have no interest in Vista, I am interested in whether it will accommodate AO and AE.
|
Microsoft has put in a lot of work to make Windows Vista good for games, including a high level of compatibility. I haven't heard anything specific about AO and AE, but they should be fine.

The main reason i am interested it Vista is security features Microsoft is talking about. I hope they mean that on virus protection not just file protection... Im tired of all the third party applications i have to run constantly to protect Windows. But i do need a good Windows machine for gaming. |
Doesn't Vista have a compatability menu which says you can run AO and AE under Windows 98? With XP you can run programs under Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2K. I'm sure that sort of thing is available in Vista.
Glokstar, don't listen to Moxco, he's posting a load of crap. :p |
Yes there is a system emulation option, ive read and heard about it. But there are still some programs with backward compatibility issues. Under XP i couldnt run some old games either no matter if i emulated Windows 98. I will only get Vista if someone can confirm the OW games work 100%. Its not crucial to get Vista.

Did anyone try to run AO and AE under Vista???????
Well is there anyone out there who is playing Abe's Exoddus now on winXP?
Then please, send me a PM with how he get it running and with what system requirements. Because I found the discs back in an old box and ive tried so much but it still gives errors and sometimes the message that AE not runs under WIN NT. And i must say those games must get a remake just for the statement and the nostalgy. |
I've played Abe's Exoddus on XP some months ago, it worked without making any changes. Try changing Compatibility when right-clicking on the starter icon. It helped me with some games.
|
Is there anyone else you know with Vista? Because you could ask them to try it out for you, presuming you already have the games.
|
I play AE on XP currently, with no problems at all. :)
|
:
Im running both AO and AE under XP without any problems. Yes, try emulating a Windows 98 system like dripik said. |
I play AO on Pc i dont know if it helps or not.

|
Pfffff! Well im sorry but not much :p Most people play it on PC and some on PlayStation. Im interested in the type of PC you play it on, more precisely wether you play it on Vista.
|
See, if I had succeeded in my motion to make stupidity a bannable offence, we wouldn't have to put up with that sort of thing...
*ahem* I think I shall draw this thread to Alcar's attention. |

|
Oh. Sorry. Take my two comments seperately - that's what the *ahem* was meant to represent. It's a good question but one that only Alcar can answer, as he has Vista.
|
Oh, i see, ok please do draw it to his attention than.
Thanks |
I believe very little has changed between XP and Vista in regards to gaming functions. I do believe that you will still have to change the game's compatibility mode as you would in XP.
Alcar... |
But you havent tried it, right? Sorry for being so picky... But whatever...
|
I tried using mine on Vista, but then it gave me the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!! So, I just use XP :D.
|
if you want a second opinion I will try when I get my new laptop in 2 weeks :p
|
I would like as many opinions as possible.
The famous Blue Screen of Death? Gosh... Whats funny is that on neither of my XP systems have I once experienced it. And now Vista comes and a simple game kills it... Im not sure i really need this op system... But i do want to hear more people. Thanks for sharing! |
