Oddworld's movies
If OI makes a movie is it going to be a quintology, stranger or fangus movie, has Lorne said anything about it?
Lorne was talking about starting a movie, an oddworld one. My bet will be one Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus movie ;).
Yeah definetly going to be an oddworld movie, but I can't help but think "Munch's Exoddus"
Abe's Movies...
covering AO's and AE's stories |
i just hope they dont do tv a movie would be fine though
i know i wouldnt like to think owi sink to the lowly level of ordinary television (shivers)
If they make an abe movie would they make abe's oddysee and abes exodus one movie cause they take place right after each other where as in munch's oddysee there seems to be a time period between it and abes exodus.
I doubt the plots would be too similar to the games. It's possible - nay, probable - that the Abe game involves Rupturefarms, at least as a starting point. But games and movies are different beasts and require very different plots (with way more characters and dialogue) so we can't know for sure how similar they will be.
come to think of it, it would make more sense if they made an Abe Oddysee-Exoddus movie, so there future movies will appeal to more than just the current fans.
I don't think Lorne and the crew would want to repeat themselves, so I'm guessing they'll make something new. They said they'd like an Abe movie, so I'm hoping for Munch's Exoddus. :)
i dunno i think they should make a movies that is completely different than the game
I severely doubt that an Oddworld movie would start out with Munch's Exoddus. Lorne states in his G4 interview that he plans the films to be released worldwide, and I doubt most audiences would be able to comfortably jump into the middle of such a complex saga. It'll have to start with Abe's Oddysee to be understandable, as I see it.
I also have a hunch that the movies' stories wouldn't strictly follow the games' stories. I think Lorne would want to add in all the things that were cut from Munch's Oddysee, so that a MO film would feature the Glukkon and Mudokon queens. |
:
My guess is that the company will use Abe's Oddysee as their movie. It's got a compelling plot, and re-introduces an old favorite character. I also think (and vote) that Munch's Exoddus will be done in a game when the time is right and they have the technology to make it what it should be. Though, I wouldn't mind seeing both Abe's mom, as well as Molluck's ass in a courthouse against the towering Queen Maggie. Edit: Damn, Angalok! You're fast. |
Well, from the most recent interviews Lorne seems really optomistic about this medium of entertainment, and he mentioned both movie and TV publications. I think a movie has been on their long term agenda for some time. From what I've picked up they stepped into the gaming industry with Oddworld with the intent of one day creating a film. He's also made it clear, whilst talking over these subjects, that they retain all rights to all their characters and that implies to me that they may have movies, or other non-game forms of media, based around one or more of their existing characters planned.
Going off the Oddworld subject directly and into movies in general, I'd like add add my two bits on the movie industry in its current form. One, it is about time it slipped back into the world of the wild wild west. Taking a look at some influencers of the movie industry, and what the movie industry influences you will see a spark, just a spark mind you, of wild west material seeping back into entertainment after this epics age we've recently gone through. You've got Steven King FINALLY finishing the story of Roland in The Dark Tower series, a very heavily western-based epic. You've also got Stranger's Wrath and Red Dead Revolver on the gaming front with much acclaim. And lesser, but always influenced by modern entertainment, one of Todd McFarlane's latest most sought after figures in the Spawn series is Gunslinger Spawn. Keep an eye on TV specials as well soon, see if some of the more classic westerns start getting played again between the Die Hard weekend specials. Because, you know, Die Hard 4 should be getting some coverage sometime soon. What I'm saying is that the entertainment industry is showing the first signs of a shift. If they've got a movie in mind and want to start it soon, accounting for production time something based on or around Stranger's, or Stranger's rugged world may suite them quite well. That's just my take, and even with a great deal of Oddworld love in there it's more based on my movie love. This is what happens when my passion for Oddworld and my passion for movies collide. I get all intelligent. |
Personally, I don't think the Western has ever faded completely from entertainment. Even if the costumes and environments change, the concept of a lone warrior enforcing justice in a wild and lawless expanse is eternal. The same themes of honor and bravery play out whether you're in the Old West, Feudal Japan, or the dark streets of New York. Good stories transcend setting.
As far as how the movie industry operates, I think of it thusly: a movie comes around and is very successful, and then for the next few years lesser film companies will try to copy its success. Hollywood is a town of copycats in my observation, and it takes a while for audiences to get so burned out that innovation is demanded. There was a surge of Westerns in the 70's, a surge of gory slasher flicks in the 80's, disaster movies in the early 90's, and so on. I mean, even Finding Nemo had a direct copycat in Shark Tale. |
:
I mean not the same way we saw it in the game itself |
I'm not going to say that it will be the story of the games because we really don't know what story it will be or even which characters will be in the movies as of now, but if it's an Abe movie that they're going to make, then I think that it could be the story of the games, but with more added to it that we hadn't seen in the games. Maybe to thicken the plot a bit, if you know what I mean. ;) Is that what you meant by your post above, Xav?
I agree with odd chick. Obviously a movie can't consist of Abe running from floor to floor, saying "Hello" and "Follow me" to 99 Mudokons. They'll have to expand the introduction to Oddworld, illustrate the Mudokon's plight, show RuptureFarms despoiling the landscape. Luckily, the reason we all love Oddworld is the layers of story and character that define each game, and as such it'll be much easier for these games to translate to film than most others that have a negligible plot.
Although something just occurred to me today: Lorne stated in his G4 interview that the next Oddworld game would coincide with a feature film. If the first Oddworld movie is Abe's Oddysee, does that mean the next video game will be a next-generation console remix of Abe's Oddysee? RuptureFarms in 3D? Elum platform jumping? Just a thought. |
The movies will almost definitely have a begining with Abe, Lorne himself has always said that the Quintology were always originally ment to be movies. So Im sure he'd wanna start off in the begining and finally progress with the Quintology like he always wanted; althought it'll probalbly be very different from the actual game in more of a character development type of way. Then again Lorne might decide to go with some of the original story concepts for Abe and change the Quintology completely.
I just hope they use the most current version of Abe (with teeth and three fingers). I couldn't stand the look of the toothless Abe in his first games.
And they need to give Molluck and the other Glukkons voices that don't sound like oatmeal running into a drain, gloppy and undestinguished. We have great Glukkons in Munch and AO, with great voices (I love the ones that sound like characters from a Mafia movie.) Molluck's got to have a deep, sinister voice. One that sends chills down the audience's spines and makes them think, "Oh yeah. This guy's definately a bad guy..." |
Huh?
When did Abe get teeth? Did I miss a movie in MO? Anyway, It'll be good to see Abe back again, in movie or game. I'm most excited. |
Yep, Abe and the other Muds all had little flat teeth in the FMV's in Munch.
Hmmm... interesting.... *strokes non-existant beard* I suppose however OI (or whatever they are now) decides to portray them is fine with me.
Yeah, it's true! If you look very closely at the MO videos, you'll see that Abe and all the other muds miraculously grew teeth! :D
Yeah, things are weird like that, also sligs miraculously changed their masks! Wait, never mind. :fuzembarresed:
:

The poor sligs are like, some of them only get shoot 4 muds a day, no wonder their are so much mass sucides, also have the vykkers made anything better than the slig pants? Like Bio-engineered legs? It would be great for torturing fuzzles and sligs.

Oh i read somewhere, I think on the g4techtv site that lorne was so dissipointed with Munch's Oddysee, and he was gonna wait before he started up the quintology, wait for what u might ask? wait for better technology, I think he might have said that he might make the quintology into movies, 5 stories 5 movies. I think it will be a hit, and I dont think there will be a munch's exodus, why? because they still need to introduce squeek, if it was a six series movie i could see it, but they would need one moive called like: Saviors of Oddworld or Triforce of Oddworld. something like that where all 3 characters have already been introduced and are well known on oddworld. Cause in munch's oddysee when u say to muds follow me, with munch they just laughed. I think munch wasnt reknown enough, just repeating myself i think they need a movie where squeek munch and abe are all known throughout mudos or even throughout mudos. thats just my idea
But why would we need Squeak?
I dunno, but I would still like to see squeek, maybe he is like a rebel kinto slave....OOOO now I have an idea for a drawing :D
well you know guys named tiny are actually really big most of the time. Maybe the name squeek is like that. when really he has a lowd booming voice like a 7 foot tall man who has been smoking since the age 6. lol |
