oddworld back on PS2???

well hi every one,

i'm quiet new in here but i'm a oddworld fan from the very begining.
i was wondering, i notist that stranger also will be released on the ps2 but does any body of you guys now if abe himself will once walk back on the ps2

thanks
keep things ODD

Xavier 08-16-2004 12:18 AM

We don't know about that

But if Oddworld stays with EA, then it's very probable to see the quintology (and thus Abe) back on the PS2 aswell, yeah.

Welcome here, enjoy your stay

Well, as long as the future games will be on PC or Xbox, I'm happy. I don't want to buy a PS2 just because the next game will be only supported by PS2. I'm sure that PS2s are great too, but... Oh, anyway.

I hope there will be an Xbox version. According to the screenshots and stuff I saw about Stranger, I don't think they will make it for PC. It's kind of like MO. The graphics are better than the earlier games, and it needs a strong platform. What do you think?

Wil 08-16-2004 06:15 AM

I have no faith in PC games. I have no faith in PCs, either, so that's probably why. But I hope that OWI find multi-platform to be a great thing for Oddworld, sales-wise, and will be encouraged to remain that way. The more people who have access to Oddworld, the better.

Xavier 08-16-2004 06:44 AM

I don't like games on pc either... my pc is never powerfull enough :p
that's exactly why I have a console, so you put the game in it and it runs smoothly without changing 50 options

Adder 08-16-2004 08:29 AM

I NEED them to be on PC. I've got the first two working on my XP (a miracle in itself, since they're both legal copies) and I can't afford another console. So unless they come out on PS1, I need PC.

oddguy 08-16-2004 10:22 AM

I'm not a PC gamer, but if I were to get a PC game, it'd be Halo. The PC version of Halo has new exclusive multiplayer arenas. I vwant zem!

Doesn't look like it'll be on PC, unfortunately. :( But there's always emulators. :) And if it's on PS2, it'll suit me fine. I just hope Oddword won't be X-Box exclusive anymore. Sure, the X-Box probably is a good console, just X-Boxes are out of my grasp. And I'm not buying one just for a single game, especailly since it seems most X-Box titles are on the PC, even if it is an Oddworld game.

BTW, Halo maybe good, but keep an eye on Half-Life 2. If it truely is as good as it looks, and if Half-Life 2 goes the same way as Half-Life 1 with all the mods and stuff, then it'll be the best game yet. :)

That's a pity, but at least it'll be on PS2. I find PC's to be much more superior, my 9800 Pro would kick my PS2's ass tbh.

lestat 08-17-2004 07:01 AM

thx

just wanna say thanks, i realy hope it will come back for pc, ps2, and (this is for shure) x-box,...

i'm not gonna buy an x-box just for one game of oddworld, i hope they make a ps2 version of munch. iff i would buy an x-box i would have to say bubye to my new uitar (wish is 2000€) so maybe later.

""""there's an oddworld behind the horizon"""-myself-

Leeum 08-18-2004 12:10 AM

The idea is we shouldn't have to do that, at the end of the day it's us that has to suffer. At first i had the attitude where the PS2 would better becuase it can continue series' from the Playstation such as Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider etc. But at the minute i'm paying for that choice, not only did i pay £300 for one of the first PS2's out (Version 3) i've had to replace the lazer numerous times. I'm sick of all this rivalry between consoles at the minute becuase nobody wins, we shouldn't have to guy and buy every console to play a series of games such as Oddworld.

Wil 08-18-2004 01:02 AM

[quote=Leeum]The idea is we shouldn't have to do that, at the end of the day it's us that has to suffer.[quote]
Not wanting to sound hostile, but I don't think the term 'suffer' is used at its most appropriate when referring to an entertainment system. I'm sure if linked to the recent typhoon in Japan or flooding in Cornwall it would be much better suited to its task.

You're right, no console will ever win the Console War, but then it's not a war that wants to be won. At the end of the day, Sony and Microsoft want more to earn money than to 'defeat' each other. Both have, in the past, issued statements that say a single console on the market would be a tragedy, as there would be no competition to drive for better games and services. But I also see where you're coming from talking about a single series of games. When one of those starts skipping between console exclusivities, then people are bound to get fed up.

It's just that OWI actually said that they wouldn't release MO on the PS2 if they found a console that was better. Lo and behold they found that console.

Paramite catcher 08-18-2004 10:45 AM

Personally, I hope that it is on the PS2 I hate the way they switched from sony and jumped on the microsoft wagon. I'm sure it's a great console, but both the previous games were on ps1 and I expected them to continue the legacy by going on to ps2, but they switched to xbox. I hated that. I'm so glad it's back on ps2.

Off topic: I have returned, not that I was popular to begin with, but still.

Fuzzle Guy 08-22-2004 11:38 PM

I do not think that Abe will appear on another sony console.

The reason Munch's Oddysee switched to X-Box was due to the Graphics, being better on X-Box, but when you see games like 'Ratchet & Clank', the graphics are amazing, wich is why I recon that they have made it on both consoles.

Eriken 08-24-2004 03:27 PM

The quality of a game is based 100% on the ability of the programmers. There's a secret area in Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando where it shows off the original water effects that they were going to use for the game, and they are quite literally the best water effects ever seen in a game. Ever. (If you ever have the chance, I recommend you check it out). The reason they didn't use it is because it taxed the system too much and they didn't have time to perfect the coding so it'd run at a decent frame rate. But if they could have, then the system could have run it no problem. It's quite true that no game has ever used 100% of the PS2's power (and no game has probably even used 40% of the Xbox's power either).

The problem is that it's harder to develop games on PS2 for several reasons, including the requirement of idealized code to get things running smoothly. In the beginning of this console generation, this caused several developers to either make shitty games for the PS2 because they were lazy, or just abandon Sony all together (which was the case with OWI). But all of the big name developers like EA, Square, etc knew that abandoning Sony would be just like taking a big bag of money and burning it. So after a while of creating shitty games, Sony stepped up and told such developers that if they didn't start using the PS2 to it's true potential, they'd discontinue their support.

So now people are taking true advantage of the PS2's power, and we're ending up with gorgeous games like Ratchet and Clank, Jak 2, Silent Hill 3, FFXI, etc.

So @Fuzzle Guy - Graphics had nothing to do with OWI's decision to switch from PS2 to Xbox. They just wanted an easier route. Munch's Oddysee could have easily have been on the PS2. And because of their decision to make it an Xbox exclusive, they lost a shitload of sales.

spacemarinehunter 08-25-2004 12:27 AM

it better come on ps2, because ive wnted an xbox so bad just to play munches oddessy or however u spell it, but im not wasting 300 euro just to play a game, and besides ive only played the abe games

Xavier 08-25-2004 12:31 AM

the official pice of the xbox is now 150 euro and the game is now to find at 25 euro
so only 175 euro to play the game :p

Wil 08-25-2004 12:47 AM

That's a very good point, Eriken. OWI left the PS2 because of the hardships they had developing on it, not because of any graphical disadvantages (apart from the whole anti-aliasing kerfuffle). But still, I imagine the prospect of the greater graphics capable on the Xbox was an enticing factor.

Jeez, now I can't stop wondering what would have happened if either OWI had stuck with the PS2 or Microsoft hadn't been so demanding on the game being a launch title. Sadly, I'm a whatif person.

here in shitty ireland its 200 euro, the game is 50 euro that makes 250 euro, nearly 300 quid

Xavier 08-25-2004 01:51 AM

the price of the xbox should go down by you in the coming weeks
and you can get MO in the "classics" serie, which is cheaper

Killa_47 08-25-2004 02:01 AM

I hope it is on the ps2 and on xbox as then almost all fans would be satisfied.

Xavier 08-25-2004 02:13 AM

you hope?
it's official, Oddworld Stranger will be released on both platforms :p

Killa_47 08-25-2004 02:41 AM

I haven't checked for a while, thanks xavier, aprieciate it.

paramiteabe 08-25-2004 03:46 AM

I think their move to multi platform is a considerable and a great move on OWI's behalf. One because us, the fan base is different among each other in decideing what system we want to play our games on. Some of us like X-Box some of us like PS2. In this case multi platform is the way to go. It balances out the market and will definitly sell better and be more successful as oppose to one system. The world of consols is moving rapidly in this day and age and perhaps all games should become multiplatform. We are beginning to see that no longer games that are for single systems makeing as much success as what the hype on them is made out to be. OWI this time around made a very wise move. What I am saying is its better for us and its better for them.

going commando? was'nt it just called ratchet and clan 2?I really doubt they would release it on PS2.I REALLY doubt it.But future games will be on PS3 and X box 2....If they are released by then...

Eriken 08-25-2004 07:16 AM

Ratchet and Clank 2 is subtitled "Going Commando", while RC3 is going to be subtitled "Up Your Arsenal".

Munch's Oddysee will never be seen on another console. I frankly couldn't care less, as it's only the graphics that really sparked my interest in the first place, but I can't stand the gameplay. Platformers should have stuck to 2d sidescrolling.
Stranger's gameplay looks considerably better, but the lack of dynamic lighting has really made the graphics seem incredibly bland, especially since it lacks the color palet of Munch's Oddysee and other previous games.

Stranger 08-26-2004 07:41 AM

I am pretty upset that Oddworld Stranger is also coming to PS2. Munch Oddyesee was a exclusive game for Xbox and it was great. And plus i pretty much dont like PS2 even tho I have it the only reason I am keeping it is cause of Grand Theft Auto and Platforming games but PS2 really sucks in my opinion its almost 6 years old how can they release such a new great game on an old system that cant handle good technology? Xbox is awesome it has 100X better graphics , games, etc... PS2 is too old no offense to PS2 fans but I think it sux that Oddworld Stranger is coming too PS2.

Xavier 08-26-2004 08:34 AM

sorry, but why do you think it's bad for stranger to be also on ps2?
I don't see any valid point in your post.

buy the Xbox verion and be happy :p

I have Xbox for 2 years now lol

Xavier 08-26-2004 09:04 AM

so what is the problem about OWI releasing stanger on the PS2 aswell?
