Yes, I will be gone for the rest of the week. I'm leaving for California for The Aquabats Secret Cadet Party. Since I AM a paid Aquacadet and all:p

It will be pure awesomeness, I cannot wait at all. Once I get back I will post up a summary of the show in this topic, complete with pictures.

And I won't miss you guys a bit:p

Well I googled it...the The Aquabats Secret Cadet Party is for something called Aquacadets.

I think it's some kind of group, and it's elite, meaning not just anyone can go, and it's saying the show will be filmed for a DVD...soooooooo

The Aquabats are a New-Wave/Ska band. Think 1 part Weird Al, 1 part any So-Cal Ska band you can think of, and 3 parts Devo.

Their songs are always goofy and light-hearted. They're also super heroes... or at least, they dress like super heroes. The Aquacadets are their die-hard fan club.

I've actually been thinking about joining the ranks of the Aquacadets (I don't join "clubs" very often).

The show was THE SINGLE AWESOMEST SHOW EVER. Easily the best of the Aquabats I've seen.

And as an encore, Pool Party.

As I said, it was absolutely amazing. It was the first time ever they've played Sandyface live, and they haven't played their cover of Oingo Boingo's The Controller since 1995, so I was really syked. I believe it was their first time for playing Hello Goodnight and Chemical Bomb as well, and the only the second time for Todd-1 (which was AMAZING).

As you know, it was an EP release party, and exclusive to cadets only. A tiny crowd because of this, no more than 250 people. It was awesome, felt so..."intimate". Anyways, since it was a cadet-only show they had a lot of cadet-only merchandise. I spent a total of 80 bucks just on merch.

Once I got there, I met up w/ all my California homies and we waited in line for like 45 minutes. They had to delay the show because the 2nd opening band, The Bear Claws, cancelled. So the show didn't really start till about 8 instead of 7.

This show was being filmed for the new DVD, and Mikey interviewed me. So my interview will be on the new DVD. During the show I was right up front against the stage the whole time. My dad was at the very back armed with a digital camera. At the end of the show, I got on stage with the bats and stuff, it was pretty cool. After the show I got to hang out with the bats and drink soda and stuff.

C'mon guys! Surely someone else must find it a tad titilating? C'mon you cynical Brit kids... imagine one of your mates following a band like that... would they ever walk again for the vast numbers of wedgies they'd encounter merely walking from class to class?

Hmmm. I admire they're originality. But that is because I am an all loving uber being.

But you see, it isn't a nerd thing. It's not like a Star Trek convention or anything; I am known througout the school for my obsession with the Aquabats, and I am very well respected. They're just all about being goofy and silly and being complete dorkwads, but being aware of it and having fun with it. When I go to the show dressed as a superhero sheriff, I KNOW I look like a dweeb, and that's why it's so much fun. The point of the costumes is to be funny and wacky. That's the whole atmosphere of the band. Nobody really thinks they're superheroes, it's just a funny thing. It's awesome BECAUSE it's so lame.

And then it's fun when we meet people like you who don't get it, who don't have that higher level of humor, and just think "OMG that's so lame, I'm so much cooler than that." And then we just laugh in their faces because of their stupidity and insecurity.

I understand the humour Mac, its about letting go living your innerchild... I just don't find it funny! I'm moe a satire, wit and irony kinda gal always have been.. farce just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid... therefore my initial reaction to the Aquabats was "Oh my God! 30 year old men in tights jumping around ripping off 15 year old's, parting them from their hard earned pocket money!"

Its not to do with being "cool" its just when I was younger I NEVER got involved with anything that was directly marketed for kids... because inevitably it was always gonna be a let down and a rip off!

For what you paid to see the Aquabats you could have gone to see an "adult" band... thats all! I'm am an old cynic... I don't see why a guy needs to wear his kecks on the outside to play good ska or to get kids skanking!

It ain't a real go at you (you looked cute in the mask... there is something very Keanu about you!) just my initial response to something that must be making these blokes a fortune! Wouldn't mind being a penny behind them... the whole piss-take kids band is an alien concept in Britain... we have boy bands for young girls but they're all very serious about things... there's the odd weird nordic dance band but other than that our music is kept pretty straight!

It's just weird!

I have been to many "adult" band concerts, including Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Cheap Trick, etc...The Aquabats put on the best show by far. And the tickets are only 10 bucks, not like the others who are over a hundred. Just because a band has fun does not mean that they cannot put on a good show. I've talked to many people, and they have all said that The Aquabats put on the best stage show out of all the concerts they have seen. Hell, even my dad thinks so. And he's, you know, old.

And about the marketing/ripoff thing...The Aquabats are a TINY band from the OC whom hardly anybody has heard of. There are about 5 other kids in my entire school who know who they are. They play in tiny venues to about 250 kids and adults alike. In fact, at the shows there are many more adults there than kids. So I don't see how it could be some big evil marketing scam.
