I haven't been on Portal 2 in a while but what I remember is that the DLC hurt mine and Havoc's brains.

We did get trough it though.

Yeah I requested to necro-post here, there's something small I wanna share.

Ever wanted to play the original Portal in Portal 2's updated engine and level style/design? Last night I found someone making a mod for Portal 2 doing just that, and they have released a demo of the first few levels. It's something I was waiting for someone to do for a little while.

I dunno how I missed his own showcase vid, but I did, and made my own vid (even though YouTube loves to corrupt my stuff lately). However one of my suggestions was that he should re-introduce the original soundtrack to retain some atmosphere from the original game, and my vid still demonstrates that (I added it in editing):


There are some bugs, and perhaps the starting chamber should be like the original and not look like the hotel room, but otherwise it looks very good. Will be keeping a close eye on this.

whoever did this has talent. i hate the look of the original, the test chambers are really 70's style and tacky, whereas portal 2's test chambers look futuristic and new, like they should.

this is my favourite game of 2011, but the best is by far Skyrim. But I do love Portal, it's probably my favourite game of all time.

I agree with this in lots of ways. While there are games with more content and more playability I don't think I've every enjoyed a game as much as Portal 2. It was like playing a really well written movie.

I would agree. It was a very well-paced game. To name another example, Rayman 3. Not a revolution, but it understood level length, player reward, introduction of new elements etc.

The underground section in Portal 2 went on for far too long and was boring as sin. The only saving grace of it was Cave Johnson's narration and the two or so puzzles at the end which were actually mentally stimulating. I hated the gel. Hated, hated, hated it.

Also I didn't care for Wheatley.

That being said, Portal 2 was an amazing game.

Wheatley is probably my favourite game character, and without him, portal 2 wouldn't be nearly as funny as it is now. Stephen Merchant pulled of the whole "moron" thing really well. also, the early Aperture levels from the 50's and 70's ect, were my favourite, maybe a bit boring sometimes, but god, did you look around at all? that place looked amazing! the 70's vibe worked brilliantly, and those old enrichment spheres (test chambers) were a very nice change.

His banter with GLaDOS towards the end was great however.

Thisthisthis. I thought that the opening tutorial (Put cube on box, open door, etc...) and everything up until you getting dropped was perfect but the transition from the old test chambers to fighting Wheatley was too sudden.

That sounds more like a criticism of Portal 2 than a defense of the middle act.

It's also wrong, and even if it was right then it should be wrong.

but it is right. I liked those test chambers, and even if they looked like the new test chambers, you'd still be able to tell that they were the old ones, purley because of how they are set out, what the goals are ect. And yeah, portal 2 is similar, but that nice change kept it fresh.

not when you don't use the portalgun it isn't. thats what annoyed me, not so much a problem in chapter 7 though

Chapter 6 was almost entirely comprised of large rooms with discreet walls you had to shoot portals to in order to progress. Chapter 7 was better, but still had way too many unclear routes.

That's precisely what made them so bad. All you needed to do was search for the one, single white wall and shoot your portal at it. Puzzle solved. And within the test chambers, there were generally a few more white walls, but only one would have a blinking neon sign declaring "ME! ME! SHOOT A PORTAL AT ME!"
