Thanks |
Nowtun, how did you texture Abe like that?! looks really good :)
|
:
I did it in lightwave and then changed the UV (shrunk or expanded it) which doesn't effect the model. Hows your texture going? |
nOWtun... Abe is naked!! ahahah anyway is much better then MO!!! keep it up!

The texture.. haven't really started yet. I've just been messing about with it, trying to get my head around with how to texture .. ya know, the basic stuff :P.. and I started painting the lips, and realised I would probably have to get better at painting :S.. so then I started searching for text on colour theories and ended up reading about how you get green if you mix blue and yellow, brown if you mix a primary colour and it's complimentary secondary colour, all of which I already know ;(...
And then tonight I saw that 'rough' Abe you'd textured, and just thought I'd texture that scanned image instead of trying to paint the whole thing myself, coz it would just suck badly!.. so, I plan to attempt to texture Abe using that scanned image tomorrow, so I hope it goes ok :D.. :S |
Cool sounds like a plan...just need to remove the tattoo and his skirt, hair and eyes are not on the scan so you might need to do those.
Do you want me to have a go at doing the UV for you???? |
ermm, shall I have a go first? One of the problems I know I'll encounter is, you know the scanned textures.. I don't know how to map them onto the model and have them blur together at the seams.. do you know what I mean?
|
yeah have a go....I think that the scan pictures may already be blurred but I was thinking I was gonna have the same problem....was gonna try to use GIMP.
|
Nowtun, it's turning out ok :).. I've arranged the bodyparts from the scan into a compact image. I'm UV'ing over the image, so this is gonna take some time... I've started on his face, so when I get up tomorrow, I'll finish the face and head, and take some pics to show you how it looks ;)

NEW WEBSITE
THE NEW WEBSITE: FANWERKZ Fanwerkz is back from the dead, this is the official release of the new site. Nowtun, his wife, Avenging Gibbons and recently myself have all banded together to help and now I have added a site to bring the game project to the masses. http://fanwerkz.moonfruit.com/ Click the link to experience the Odd in 3D Kudos to Nowtun by the by, doing this all from as far as I can see, scratch, is amazing and inspiring! |

Wow!! Stunning is all I can say. The levels have left me speechless! :D
Everything looks great so far, nowtun. Very cool what you're doing with such a classic game! Cannot wait to see it all when it's finished. |
Nice! Dude do you have anything at all in mind for who/what you're going to use to do the programming for the actual game? This is going so nicely since I looked at it last. You ARE a god to me.
|
:
:
I dont currently have a programer but I have people looking for me and thanks again :-) |
Hmm what engine are you using again? I can find you a programmer ;D
|
:
I was using Unity. thanks man |
Here's a link to the latest video of Paramonia path 1 (Complete)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdqQ2ef9HwE nOWtun |
Where's elum and can you fall down from the path?
|
:
|
Yowza, I hope he doesn't fall that's some drop. Oh and effing A*** for the graphics
|
:
|
Yeh I noticed that but I can tell despite that that you have worked your socks off, nice to see you have the copyright at the end although might I be so bold as to suggest writing everything after "THIS GAME IS IN NO WAY ENDORSED BY EITHER GT INTERACTIVE OR ODDWORLD INHABITANTS" is written in smaller font? =)
|
:
|
looking better and better. And you've added some gameplay mechanics. It's starting to look like a game now :)
|
Ah ok, fair enough..oh and what Fartuess says!
|
Nowtun, I'm getting a graphics tablet for xmas :).. I got fed up with texturing Abe coz the seams are obvious due to the colour difference. I would carry on, but then I had a more adventurous idea to repaint the whole lot in photoshop. So, I can show you the colour difference if you want, and then you decide whether I try to finish them and try doing some photoshopping to blend the seams together (I'd find that tricky), or I can wait until xmas and then attempt to repaint the whole thing, which could turn out crap, amateur-ish, or truly awesome. I think I have the potential to make it awesome, but I'd need to learn some things.
PS. Do you use a graphics tablet? |
:
and no i dont use a tablet, but I have considered getting one... but only for texturing purposes as i dont see any benefit to making 3D models. Edit: thanks Fartues and STM |
Ooohhh, good thinking, and I've forgot to say that the video you posted is really REALLY nice :).. btw, that elum sign, in the video, is that the old one? It looks better somehow..
Oh, and also, when I had to import the abe model, I didnt realise that by default it imported it all triangulated, so I was trying to texture him using a triangulated mesh! :S.. anyway, I will make sure to import him in polygon format, or whatever it is you call it.. should make it a whole lot easier!! durrrrr.. silly me... |
:
yeah abe is Triangulated, I modeled him using squares but had to convert into tris as the game engine wouldnt accept him as square poly mesh, it nearly doubles the poly count but isnt really a problem untill you have to readjust him in anyway in modeler. |
Ok all, first dev diary is complete, head on over to Fanwerkz 2.0 to see what we've been up to. Please acknowledge Nowtun's enormous workload as well, he really is working so hard on this.
|
I'd love to help out on this project as a mapper guys. Sadly, I don't know Lightwave, but I have a fair knowledge of the Source SDK (half life 2 mapping engine)
If there was a way to convert files FULLY over, I'd love to be part of this project! |
what do you mean by mapper guy?
|
he mean someone who create levels.
|
so level designer and environment artist... thats me then
i do still need a programer though |
Can you PM me some of the code that you already have by Tria, I will take a whack at it so long as it's C++, no promises for something amazing but...I will take a look.
|
i'll send you it as soon as i figure out how to get into the code off the demo
|
Okey doke
|
Actually unity isn't using C++. It's using JavaScript and C#. But there is script reference (all unity code functions) on unity website, so you don't need to have all knowledge in your head :). C++ knowledge will be probably enought to start.
|
okey doke, thankee
