So far I think most of these new characters look great, not all of them mind you but just a few of the few we've seen so far. Im really eager to get some good info on what they are and the such. Oh and Max, you should either be getting your package any day now or really soon (when I sent it the post office said I wouldn't be able to keep track of it sience it twas out of country.).

Scrubs 07-11-2003 06:42 PM

I just watched Monsters Inc, again and i realised that Randal (bad guy) looks like those new salamander creatures!

TheKhanzumer 07-11-2003 09:20 PM

I wish I could see the Discovery Channel video. I'm very tempted to ask someone to type of an overview of the whole video (the oddworld stuff at least), but I won't be dissappointed if nobody wants to.

That karate blob is sort of wierd...

Btw, I said I like the hickens Max, not the salamanders. Those salamander things will piss me off evertime I look at them until they get some serious graphical tweaks to make them look more realistic. Then again maybe they look better in action. I've only seen that picture of them. I hope they are mudflubs.

sorry to disapoint you but it would surprise me a LOT if they were actually mudflubs

I wish. It just looks like a blob to me. With limbs, a wide face, a few hairs and a spotty back, that is.

Sorry, my mistake.

I did type out a transcript of the Oddworld bits in the X-Factor video when I couldn't see the pictures from the downloaded version. It wouldn't be a tremendous job for me to update it a bit.

I love oddworld for it's creativity and, well...oddness!
I'm sorry, but the guys in the pic look like fat, hillbily chickens who lost all their feathers. Is it just me, or does anybody else feel this way?

I know that oddworld is a huge place with many stories that have not been delved into, but I didn't want to explore the strory behind fat chiken guys! Personaly I'd like to see more of that hunter guy!

To talk about the pic, the chiken guys have those ponytail things; kinda like mudokons.

I am with Oddguy on this one.

TheKhanzumer 07-12-2003 02:40 PM

That would be great if you could do that Max and PM it to me.

I'm starting to agree with the whole "lacklusterness" of the new creature designs. So far they are almost all humanoid to some degree or another which is kind of repetitive.

I'd be really surprised if the salamanders are mudflubs too Xavier, I just think their appearance sort of fits how I picture a mudflub.

Someone agrees with me? Yea!

Hey...are those guys really called hickens, or did we make that up?

Xavier 07-12-2003 02:59 PM

it's just a name we put up to refer to them :fuzwink:

Sekto Springs 07-12-2003 07:01 PM

ok i spent half an hour on oddchat just now dissussung how that hunters name is Grub, for all of you who can watch it on TV (doesnt turn up well on computer) LISTEN in the area of the Green Light meeting where lorne shows Ed a book of drawings of buildings. listen he says, "the poacher Grub"

Wil 07-17-2003 05:50 PM

Like I told you in OddChat, I couldn't hear that, neither on my downloaded version nor on my Oddsvillian VHS. However, I've just noticed in your post you heard 'the poacher Grub'. Assuming your heard accurately, that tells us a teensy bit more about the mysterious 'Hunter', or should we now say 'Poacher'?

Either that, or the poacher is in its grub form. Pffftt...

EDIT: I had to edit my last post in Niteowl's Loading Screen topic because of the new anti-double posting what-not, so some one'll be kind enough to bump it up if you have anything decent to say, won't you. Read it yet?

With the horns, I feel they may be Steef's, in which case perhaps the 'moral' of this new game is to do with hunting, which I'm surprised nobody mentioned before. Perhaps they did and I was busy looking in the other direction. It's the horns that reminded me of this. Plus, we have the 'Grub' the hunter...or as SligSlinger thinks he hears, the poacher, which makes the whole hunting/poaching thing even more strongly defended.

It's all speculation, I should mention, but what do you think?

i agree, a very big PFFFFTT! if Grub is infact a grub, i would hate to see his evolutionary state...ICK!

anyway your speculation has the most logic, it may be such a game involving hunting, i beleive that there might be certain bounties you could play in order to gain money for your 'journey' or whatever it is you will do OW4.

Wil 07-18-2003 04:08 PM

I was actually trying to say I think hunting and poaching, in particular of certain parts of animals (like elephant tusks or rhino horns) is the issue, or an issue, that the game addresses, in the same way that AO addresses slavery, MO addresses animal testing, plus various other issues folded not-so-deep into the game and story. I think Steef's horns are a good reason for why Grub is after Steef. Something I didn't mention, Lorne mentioned that Steef has "gotta have horns," almost as a side note, but he was very eager they be included (sorry, Khan, I forgot to sort out the transcript, I'll get started tonight, should have it done by tomorrow). Before I'd just thought it was a random concept Lorne was hooked on, but now maybe I'm think it's part of the storyline, and that in describing how Steef was created, he needed to mention the horns, but couldn't talk about the storyline. The only option would be to just add them at the end of the Eastwood/lion/centaur (he says minotaur, I should think he meant centaur) talk.

Yes, hunting within the game would work. It reminds me of one the parts of MO that was left out, you could possess a Slig, but in order to open up a new part that was necessary for completing the game you needed more Moolah than the Slig had. That meant the only option was to actually perform the duties of the Slig until his bank balance reached the right level for the game to progress. It would be quite humbling if something like that were part of the gameplay, something to counteract the action and FPS. Like the nurturing part of MO that was left out, except pretty much the opposite.

TheKhanzumer 07-18-2003 05:02 PM

Poaching.

I think, given what we know, this could very well be a major part of the plot. People who bounty hunt and poach for a living, depending on what is easier and makes the most money, all fighting for certain "catches". That could be why the hunter is chasing Steef. Either he (the hunter) wants to remove a rival poacher or Steef has a bounty on his head or is being hunted like a an elephant for illegal profit.

BTW Is it "official" that Steef transforms into the four legged horned thing? Also, Steef in his normal form has no horns right?

And thanks for working on the transcript Max.

Wil 07-18-2003 05:11 PM

By 'normal' I assume you mean the 'disguised', two-legged form. In which case, it's difficult to tell, because he has the hat and the masses of hair. Lorne, pointing at the two game-engine models of Steef says, "And here's after he grew horns," so I should think you're right.

paramiteabe 07-18-2003 05:51 PM

We can rest assured that Steef will be like what Munch was originally suppose to be with maybe a few new surprises to go with the things we missed before. Alf said that, Lorne said that and the inhabitants are saying that through the little clues they give in the inhabitants interviews on how they are so excited about the game. Lets face it Munch was a failure that was never suppose to be, Steef will surely make up for that. But I am not holding my hat until we see it but look at it at this angle, so far theres no switching systems and it will be 2 years when it does come out. If theres no switch from now until the game comes out which will be another year and a half I bet, then their game will be as described on the X-Factor or even better. Thats the little blind faith I go by here. The only thing we have to do is hope that there will be no switching of systems. If that happens then Steef will end up like Munch.

Sekto Springs 07-18-2003 06:14 PM

well, about the poaching of Steef's horns situation, after seeing how Grub was chasing Steef in his two legged form maybe steef does not grow horns, besides i know lorne said "the horns weren't completely finalised yet, i still want to do some testing on it" meaning the horns could just be technacality that lorne may add...nothing seems officially cleared up yet, so i don't expect anything until then.

oddguy 07-19-2003 12:35 AM

I think you guys have the right idea...Steef has to be in disguise so his horns aren't seen. I still haven't figured out how Steef tucks his legs so it looks like he only has two.

I also have to ask if anyone got the OWI christmas card. Inside it says something about a bountiful new year. Anyway if anyone has it, you'll notice it has horns and arrows in the picture...Two things we know now. Steef has horns and he also has a crossbow that shoots arrows. And it also has a christmasy setting...the release date is in winter, right? When my scanner starts working I'lll post it up.

Sal the Mudokon 07-19-2003 03:07 AM

damn you guys are good...

keep it comin'.

oddguy 07-19-2003 04:16 AM

Here's that Christmas card pic. Notice the how simalar the horns are...and there's arrows! :D

Wil 07-19-2003 07:42 AM

Thanks Oddguy. But I already talking about the arrows and horns a few posts ago, plus I posted the card (from Matty's server) in the picture request topic. ;)

oddguy 07-19-2003 10:17 AM

Really? Always a few...or a hundered steps ahead of me! :fuzwink: *goes somewhere else* :flames:

paramiteabe 07-19-2003 06:16 PM

What were those huge dwellings we saw in some of the conceptual art they showed on the X-Factor for Steef? They looked sort of look like giant Mudokon windmills in little ways but I am not sure. My guess is that maybe they are sort of like these huge grain silos for those hickens. What do you think? I will try to get it since Oddsville sent me a tape of it and post it here.:D

Sekto Springs 07-21-2003 01:28 AM

i dont see the mudokons building something for those hickens

oddguy 08-14-2003 07:16 PM

For those who haven't seen X factor yet, the Discover Times channel is replaying it for your viewing pleasure. I looked at the Discovery Times website and here is the schedual for X factor all this month. It's called Inside Microsoft, but may I assure you, it's the same show. X Factor Schedual

I looked on the regular Discovery Channel, but they aren't playing it this month.

("Discovery Times" is short for "Discovery and New York Times Channel.")

I posted this up in another thread, but nobody was looking at it and I wanted to make sure everybody gets a chance to watch!

Nate 08-27-2003 01:29 AM

I've been trying to download the the discovery channel show from the cbadvance website but neither the link to the .wmv file or the website itself is working. Is this just me? Is there anywhere else I can download it?

oddguy 08-27-2003 01:42 AM

I tried going to Depths-of-Oddworld to download it, but it doesn't work there either........last time I checked anyway. I'll go see if it's working there. *checks*

*comes back*

Sorry, it doesn't work there. I'll try to come back later with better news.

Hmmm says something about Clint Eastwood. Somehow Squeef's comical appearance does not make it seem right. The eyebrow thing is there however, but since I have not seen the video stream, I don't know whether the "Clint Eastwood" style of talking has also been incorporated.

Does the stream even work? It didn't for me :fuzconf:

It seems that the oddworld characters are taking up more familiar forms (i.e. chickens) rather than their AO/AE counterparts.

How about chicken coops? I can see something else being built for them:
Glukkons-->Profit-->Slaughter-->Ovens-->GFC (Glukkon Fried Chicken)

Squeef?
are you talking about the Steef (probably hero of Oddworld 4)
or are you talking about Squeek (next hero of the quintology that we have not seen yet)
