Stranger Mobile's ultimate iOS release was announced on the day it came out.

Munch for Vita's release date (after a few false starts) was the same.

:fuzwink:

So is this the new release tactic now? Just don't say anything and one day just go 'Boom, new game, enjoy!'?

That does work to take away any false expectations, I'll give you that.

Crashpunk 01-06-2015 09:02 AM

I dunno. If NnT just dropped onto Steam, they'll be little to no hype. I want NnT on PC to be hyped so that more people will be interested in the game who aren't keeping track of it.

Maybe announce it a week earlier. I dunno. Whatever your planning, I just hope it's successful.

Manco 01-06-2015 09:11 AM

Can I just say right now I think this whole release date and fan participation argument is kinda silly and has nothing to do with my original comment that it's weird how long the PC and other ports are taking.

I think the hype train left. Even if they put up a release day a month in advance I think most people have lost their hype energy.

Holy Sock 01-06-2015 10:34 AM

I think that's the way with most ports, tbh, unless it's something big like GTA V or The Last of Us. But every time OWI mention something on social media they get plagued with comments about various ports - so some people are at least interested.

Unlike Munch Vita and Stranger Mobile I agree that there should be some sort of buildup. Although TellTale is getting away with it... but perhaps it's because they are more popular and the nature of the episodic model with free updates...

But, and this is just conjecture, I got the impression that the early announcement of a July 2014 release contributed to the buggy release of NnT. Another reason why they don't want to give us targets in case, at the last minute, they decide the game actually needs another month of polishing touches.

I really think that the amount of hype-loss is proportionate to how excited you are to begin with. The people here who knew about the release and have been watching it like a motherfucking hawk since day 1 are naturally going to be more disheartened when it takes longer than expected. The general public will get excited at "PC RELEASE OF REMADE OLDIE CLASSIC OUT NOW NOW NOW".

Manco, I think this discussion was inevitable. There are a lot of people who really want this game, and it's taking longer than we were told. The game looks really good, and we all want to get our hands on it as soon as possible. People just need somewhere to vent until we have more news.

Why would announcing it a week earlier be better than simply releasing it and then giving it the same level of PR hype at a time when people are actually able to go and spend their money on it?

Nepsotic 01-07-2015 01:09 AM

Honestly when I played the game at Play Expo i didn't see anything that I would've thought to take this long, just a couple of bugs. On the other hand, I didn't play through that much of the game.

Sure I'll critic something I don't like,

Lel don't make me laugh, Crash.

Shade667 01-07-2015 02:01 AM

And even if u did, u might not have found any of the problems they mightve.
Playing through the game for over a hundred times Ive found tonnes of bugs they still havnt patched.

I guess it wouldn't be. But I've always liked to be excited for a game to come out once a release date is announced.

What?

Holy Sock 01-07-2015 05:08 AM

Either he think's you're Dr. Everything's-great-and-there's-nothing-wrong-with-anything-especially-Oddworld or you said "critic" instead of "critique".

Crashpunk 01-07-2015 09:21 AM

Do I really come across like that? Please tell me I don't...

Oh and I misspelled critique? C'mon Nep. You should know by now that I cun't spill. :)

Manco 01-07-2015 09:33 AM

I for one am incredibly critiqual of CP’s spelling.

Varrok 01-07-2015 01:58 PM

I think Nep means that you're known as a guy who's usually very, very positive about stuff

Holy Sock 01-07-2015 02:00 PM

Good on ya, Crash. Not everyone has to be jaded and miserable!

Nepsotic 01-07-2015 09:07 PM

Holy Sick clearly hasn't been here long enough.

Hah nah, It wasn't that.

Well there's being positive, and then there's being blind to every inperfection. I'm not being nasty when I say that, it's actually quite sweet.

Xavier 01-07-2015 11:59 PM

There's a difference between "being blind" and deciding not to pay too much attention to each and every little imperfection.

Phylum 01-08-2015 01:03 AM

There's a difference between being a cunt and not being a cunt.

I guess what I'm trying to say is fuck off. You've been picking on Crash for no reason for what feels like months now. I literally have no idea what you're even talking about at this point.

Holy Sock 01-08-2015 01:18 AM

Well, from what I recall, Crash wasn't satisfied with the new look of RuptureFarms.

Crashpunk 01-08-2015 01:36 AM

Well I'm so sorry for being positive around here. Jesus. I'm not blind to imperfections. I just thing only bringing them up over and over again and nothing else causes more harm then good. Especially when they're minor little things.

Why I'm I so positive? Because this is Oddworld. My favorite game franchise. Finally come back after years of waiting. We are currently speaking on the Oddworld Forum.

I'm not overly positive and that criticisms shouldn't be mentioned. Hell no. it's worth mentioning them. Things like a bugs or major changes to the game we all know and love. (Let's say the logo or the new Rupture Farms.) There worthy of discussion and critique.

I just think to an extent. Nit picking is obsessive and not needed. Even if we are big fans of the series. I got really annoyed when some people could only highlight little nit picks and not say anything good about it.

New 'N' tasty is not perfect. Have I acted like it is? I didn't like it's controls at first, I had some pretty major bugs (save data deleting!) and the ending credit music was questionable. But it was still the game I enjoyed the most last year. And I want to see JAW continue with Abe's Exoddus and many other Oddworld titles.

:

Well, from what I recall, Crash wasn't satisfied with the new look of RuptureFarms

Your right. I wasn't. it wasn't a horrible design by any means, I just didn't see why they had to change it at all. The original was much better.

Shade667 01-08-2015 03:43 AM

Nonsense, New n Tasty is perfect.
That glitch that has me roliing forever even over gaps until I hit a wall or slide into a slog is just swell.

Personally, I cant wait for PC. Ill never play it on PC, but I want more people to start speedrunning.

Job McYossie 01-08-2015 07:18 AM

I still don't get why they made rupture farms all super hi-tech sci-fi'y, I loved the super gritty, greasy, nasty, industrially look of the original. But like crash said,
:

it wasn't a horrible design by any means
It's just that the original was so spot on that it was near perfect, so the change in design was confusing.

Manco 01-08-2015 08:25 AM

Perhaps it’s a jab at how modern consumerism has shifted from simple consumption of food and drink to the rampant amassing of computers and phones and gadgets. As humanity’s lusts change, so too must Oddworld change to reflect them.

I thought perhaps it was more along the lines of one of Lorne's original visions. Perhaps he wanted it to be high-techy and colourful but at the time graphical capability wasn't at that level. Thus, perhaps grunge and grime was born out of necessity.

Hell, at one point Rupture Farms was going to be a glukkon temple.

Or...an Oldger temple. :tard:

Nepsotic 01-08-2015 01:24 PM

Grunge and grime is much more oppressive and effective. It also makes sense in-universe because why would Glukkons care about cleanliness and style?

Varrok 01-08-2015 01:55 PM

Maybe they *learned*, Nepsotic. Gosh, you're so offensive

Job McYossie 01-08-2015 02:03 PM

learned? There is no progression of time here, this is the same time as AO, no?

Nepsotic 01-08-2015 02:07 PM

They learned in the nether-time, between dimensions.

Also, Crash I was just fucking with you, I didn't mean no offence.

Dude, multiverse theory. We're obviously in a universe where the Glukkons care about health and safety regulations.

Holy Sock 01-08-2015 02:32 PM

Well, fucking hell, they didn't enslave those Mudokons to sit on their asses.
