I didn't notice them. I however did notice this after watching it again this morning.

Well best of luck for E3! Can't wait to see new footage, hopefully some lengthy gameplay to get a sense of speed/pacing :)

You heard it here first, folks: Anguished Abe is a vital development tool.

Suffice to say there's a difference between altering a game that's hard to find and not available on modern consoles, and one you can buy on Steam for a couple of bucks. Even in the worst-case scenario, where NnT is mediocre, anyone with a passing interest is a Google search away from discovering the originals. |

You know how there were 3 surprises or something that JAW mentioned? Have we been given any hints to those yet?
|
Surprise #1 is probably the credits song.

Yeah i like the old dirty look too, so ill play Abes oddysee to get that feel but if they did this remake and changed nothing itd kinda be defying the point of it right? That being said im stoked to check out whats changed and whats the same when its done.

And yeah, bitching over the song in the credits is really nitpicking, but it's also something that can be changed in a matter of minutes. So why not give feedback while we still can? |
I honestly think it won't be in the game at all. I feel like it was only used to highlight the emotion of Abe's story in the trailer. It doesn't fit anywhere in game. Not even in the credits.
Anyway, Not long now guys. Some of JAW (including Wil) are at LA right now. And The Sony conference is at 2AM tomorrow for me. [hype at dangerous levels] |

One thing I've just wondered is if Abe is going to talk to himself like he used to throughout the game. Seeing how he looks at Scrabania in awe in the trailer, and the absence of any speech from him, it feels very abnormal, not what I'd expect. It doesnt paint Abe as the goofy character that he is. He's always felt more like an oblivious kind of guy, who'd be more likely just to stroll right into such an environment without really considering its dangers. A lot of his character comes through when he's talking to himself, or makng goofy noises in reaction to stuff. This doesn't come across in the trailer, and I've only just been able to pin this down as the reason why the trailer gives me the impression that Abe lacks character (or, at least, the type of character that I'm used to).
His look of awe seems too appreciative. For me, Abe has always been quite thick, and just wouldnt really have a sense of art. His facial expression seems too thoughtful. Usually his displayed emotion is driven by quite primitive emotions like fear or feeling safe, or seeing that his friends are okay. Has anyone else felt this? Also, I really hope that song doesn't make it into the game. I love the Michael Bross Oddworld style of music they used for Oddysee and Exoddus end credits. You can't have a good human vocal performance in a game where there are no human-like voices. It just doesn't make any sense to me, and feels very off. You need the organic sounds of Mchael Bross' material. One more thing, Abe seems to have lost his dark circles around his eyes (At least I'VE always interpreted them as dark circles, but maybe they're just shadows inbetween his wrinkles and skinfolds - regardless, the darkness is missing). Without them, his face seems too youthful and bland. I coloured them in a bit and I think it makes a slight but significant difference (bottom left, above and below): http://i59.tinypic.com/dwx992.jpg |
No because it's a trailer.
I'm guessing we'll still have that monologue throughout the game. It is one big flashback, after all. |
I do think that Abe looks cuter since 1997, it looks like he's had some sort of a face lift, but he is still very recognisable. I don't think the new look is too bad. Where you said 'talks to himself' is that like the noises he makes when he jumps down from a ledge, Hoists up to one and jumps/rolls into a wall? The Pre Alpha Footage showed on stage had Abe make those noises

I think you're just gonna have to accept that his character model is a bit different now. Just like Molluck's.
And it's not so different. http://www.rightsprite.co.uk/wp-cont...13/11/nnt3.jpg |
I think we can all agree that regardless of the changes, they still look damned good. :)
|
The new facial expressions are amazing though. Seriously, damn.

A photo of the E3 booth. Main menu looks familiar.
|
Now that is insanely beautiful. Exactly how I hoped the menu would be - it pays homage to the original whilst still looking sleek, sharp and updated.
Yay. |
now we just need some footage
|
I'm glad they stayed with that type of Menu, it's one of those things that made AO so different from other games
|
That looks b-e-a-utiful! I wonder what is locked.. Maybe it's one of the 3 'Big Secrets'...
|
Yeah I was concerned they would change it; so glad it looks how it does!
|
We're pretty bad, but it got put into context a bit when Double Fine announced they were remastering Grim Fandango, and this happened:

That menu looks pretty sweet, but what's with the "Locked!" in the bottom right-hand corner? 0:
