Yeah I played 4. It was good, I enjoyed it, but I just don't feel like it was as good as RE2. I think one of the main reasons I even like RE4 as much as I do is because Leon's the main character.

Vapid fangirl opinions ahoy!

Slog Bait 10-10-2012 07:49 PM

Essentially. I never got to play Code: Veronica either, which originally I only wanted to play because Claire was the main character.

I should have probably phrased that in past-tense. It's certainly not how I feel about the games anymore.

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 03:17 AM

I haven't completed Code: Veronica yet. I picked it up at Entertainment Exchange about 10 months ago, but I found it pretty hard, same with Zero.

Wings of Fire 10-11-2012 03:20 AM

Code Veronica is the hardest, but it's probably my favourite after 4 because of that.

Plus Claire (Vapid fanboy opinion ahoy!) and Alexia Ashford. Most definitely minus for Steve Burnside and Alfred Ashford.

Also it was the first to really deal with an overarching plot and the last where the plot wasn't abyssmal.

Slog Bait 10-11-2012 03:25 AM

I heard Code: Veronica is arguably the most difficult RE game. At some point someone in the house snagged it off psn, so whenever the ps3 is available I can play it.

I don't think I'll ever get a chance to play zero though. I don't have a system I can play it on. It was the last in the series to use the survival horror gameplay, right?

E: Woah WoF, where'd you come from

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 07:01 AM

Zero is pretty hard. It's available on the Wii and Gamecube, in my opinion, it isn't anything too special.

On another note, I just now completed 4 again, all this talk of Resi made me want to play it.
I've been building up my Resident Evil collection for years, I've got Zero, 1, Director's Cut, REmake, Deadly Silence, 2, 3, C:V, 4, 5, Outbreak, Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles, all the awful live-action films, Degeneration, and the new animated one, and I STILL don't have 6.
Also I have had the misfortune of playing the hellspawn of the Resident Evil series, Survivor, Ugh...

Wings of Fire 10-11-2012 07:18 AM

Marcus killed my interest in 0 and a lot of my interest in the direction of the series. It's in my opinion when the series excesses really started to become apparent.

I'm playing a zombie survival horror game, not a fucking JRPG.

Slog Bait 10-11-2012 07:21 AM

I have Director's Cut, 2, 3, Survivor, Outbreak, Umbrella Chronicles, 4, 5, and as of recently C:V and 6. My dad unironically loves the live action movies and he owns all of them, yet we don't own either of the animated ones.

As for 0, our Wii is busted and I never owned a Gamecube. So, even if I get my hands on a copy I still lack a console to play it on.

I really should start on Nemesis before I get sidetracked again...

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 07:27 AM

Ooh, Nemesis is my favourite of the classic ones.
2 is arguably the best, and 4 even better, but out of the classics, 3 will always be my favourite. Nemesis is such a badass, although, T-103 from Resi 2 is probably even more badass.

How when Nemesis is an upgraded T-103?

Varrok 10-11-2012 07:34 AM

Windows 8 is an upgraded Windows 7

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 07:39 AM

Nemesis isn't an upgraded T-103.

Nemesis isn't an upgraded T-103.

Oh yes it fucking is. It's a T-103 with a Nemesis Parasite added.

:

Much later, in 1998, the Arklay facility suffered a viral outbreak in which the entire research staff (bar Wesker) were killed or infected by the t-Virus. An investigation of the facility's mansion façade by the Raccoon City Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service led to their discovery of the T-002, a fully-developed and combat-ready Tyrant. While it was killed by the S.T.A.R.S. officers, Umbrella got their hands on the combat data required to ascertain its effectiveness.

Shortly afterwards, Umbrella Europe began to partner at least Nemesis parasites with the newly-created T-103 series, which were designed based on the same acquired data. The outcome of this development was Nemesis-T Type.

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 07:47 AM

The NE-α parasite, but it was never a T-103, it was a completely new model of Tyrant.
The NE-α Parasite was only added so that Nemesis could keep some intelligence, hence why it can use the rocket launcher.

E: Here we are
:

Created via:Primary t-Virus infection
Surgery

NE-α Type parasite[1]
Based:Human, Tyrant
Height:About 7' 03" tall
Purpose:Intelligent Tyrant useful as an alternative to Military forces
Status:Deceased

Model history

Development

The European branch of Umbrella originally developed the Nemesis as an offshoot of the American-led Tyrant project, with the emphasis on increasing the host's intelligence and ability to follow orders without compromising the Tyrant's inherent strength and power. The breakthrough came with the creation of the NE-α Type parasite. This parasite could take control of its host's brain stem and act as a second brain replacing the host's now useless original one.

It wasn't a T-103, although the Tyrant virus was used. It was used in Nemesis T-type anyway, not sure about the other one.

What I linked clearly states the biological base of the Nemesis was the T-103. That's from the ResiWiki. How about more evidence from Project Umbrella?

:

By administering an artifical parisitic organism to a B.O.W., it could enhance the B.O.W.'s abilities greatly, and its brain would also be controlled by the parasite. This was the "Nemesis Project", a completely original biological transformation technique advanced by the Umbrella Europe Sixth Laboratory in France. After transplanting the "NE-α Type" parasite into the spinal cord of the new mass produced Tyrant (T-103 Type) at the cellular level, it devoured the t-virus cells in the creature to reproduce, and formed an independent "brain" around the medulla. Meanwhile, the parasite also eroded the creature's central nervous system and destroyed its frontal lobe, then linked the rest of the brain functions to its own brain. Through this, the host's entire neural network was changed. Nemesis had taken complete control of the host's mind and body and enhanced its intelligence and susceptibility to suggestion.

A chemical known as "VT-J98" was necessary for the cultivation of the specimens, and stock of the solution was ordered from the Umbrella sales office in Raccoon City. 4 In addition, there was an interesting report about the original test specimens. During the process of cultivating Nemesis-T, some specimens attempted to escape from the facility. This example showed that the intelligence of the specimens had been vastly improved, and also showed the danger of a new intelligent life-form which could rebel against humans just like other developmental B.O.W.s. As a result, a specially-designed protective coat (similar to the "limiter coat" featured on the T-103 series) was wrapped around the specimens to limit and detract their power and prevent them from going out of control and rebelling.
Normally I wouldn't give a shit, but saying 'You're wrong' and not backing yourself up when I quote evidence irks me.

Nepsotic 10-11-2012 08:02 AM

OK, I was wrong, I'm sorry. I was just so sure.
And, I just now noticed that quote in your previous reply, that's why I still thought you were wrong.
I was also confused as the T-103 was completed around the time of the Raccoon City outbreak, so I found it weird how the Nemesis T-Type was also completed around the same time, especially as at the end of RE3 when Nemesis transforms into a super Tyrant, it feeds on one of the dead T-103's in the room.
It kinda makes sense though, as T-103 was the most successful Tyrant.
Now you can all mock me.

E: I just now watched the new CG resi film, I really enjoyed it. It was much better than the last one, and all the references to the older Resi games was a nice touch. (Like when Leon and Ada first meet in RE4, that fight was pretty much recreated, but with the Russian president.)

I also liked how they used Las Plagas, though I don't quite understand how it can be used to control T-virus creatures, like the lickers. Even though it was control Plaga, how was that possible? Control Plaga should only be able to control other plaga-infected creatures, I thought.

Also, the scene where T-103 transforms into its R form and starts mutilating Lickers was epic.

The Lickers were another issue, they seemed much faster than standard Lickers, and tougher, but looked like the Licker Beta's from RE5, but it can't be them, since they were only deployed in africa at the Tricell research facility. So that was weird.

Overall, I enjoyed it, even the plot wasn't as horrible as I'd have thought.

Mr. Bungle 10-11-2012 12:18 PM

Skyrim. A year later, and it's still one of the finest RPGs I've ever played.

Also cmon guys we have an RE thread for a reason.

Slog Bait 10-11-2012 08:07 PM

Sorry, that was entirely my bad.

However that doesn't change the fact that right now RE3 is a thing I am playing.

Skyrim.

Yeah, I just got that and I'm gonna start it tonight :3

I just got Starhawk (just the multiplayer portion) and it's okay: I really just got it because it has planes and mechs in multiplayer which seem awesome but the servers for this game are fucking dead so I can't say for sure.

Dynamithix 10-12-2012 08:36 AM

I beat Jet Set Radio and damn that game was fun to play. And if anything, the soundtrack is a good enough reason to play it through. The final stage was a bit too easy, I was expecting a huge showdown with the Golden Rhino leader but it was sort of disappointing that there was no boss battle or rival tag-out. Still, it was good.

Oh yeah and I bought the latest Walking Dead episode from XBLA (it's the fourth one) and played it through. It was great, slightly better than the third one though the beginning wasn't that interesting.

I'm really looking forward to the final episode and I just need to know what will happen (HUUUUUUGE SPOILERS) now that Lee is bitten and Clementine's missing. It just can't go well and I'm almost 100% sure that there's going to be a REALLY tough decision that you have to make at the very end, they have been hinting towards that in the last two episodes. My god Telltale can create good characters.

e: Fixed a few things.

Mr. Bungle 10-12-2012 01:22 PM

So, Borderlands 2.

It's fantastic. Might be the best non-Valve FPS I've ever played. The story is well put together, the characters are all unique, vibrant and fun, and the guns are fucking crazy. It basically takes everything that wasn't great one about the first one and turns it awesome. So many great setpiece moments, lots of variety in the environments, and absolutely hilarious writing. Seriously, it's not often that I laugh out loud at a video game. Thumbs up. Everyone should play this game.

Crashpunk 10-12-2012 02:41 PM

Pokemon Black Version 2

I've only played it for about 3 hours and what can I say? It's a Pokemon game and I am enjoying it. I'll give a proper verdict once I've got further into it. However I must point out I like how they've put in previous generation Pokemon in the wild so your not just stuck with the ugly 5th gen ones. Good call Game Freak. :)

I've also been playing Metal Slug Anthology

It's a collection of all the Metal Slug games (if you haven't already figured it out). I'm a huge fan of Metal Slug, I love the gameplay, the difficulty and the beautiful 16-bit graphic style and sounds effects. it's got to be my favourite arcade game. I've spend a lot of time and money playing them in the arcades and this is the first time I've ever bought a retail copy.

I bought the Wii version and it is brilliant. The controls are simple with the Wiimote and the gameplay is still additive as it was back in the arcade. I was disappointed to find out that it doesn't support a Classic Controller. It's no major problem to me. it's just the controller really could of worked with Metal Slug and despite using the Wiimote is okay, the D-Pad is a bit too small for this hectic game, My thumb starts to hurt after a while :/

Mac Sirloin 10-14-2012 12:03 PM

I'm playing Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final mix with a patch to make it halfway understandable (apart, of course, from about 90% of the tutorial boxes explaining how some of the bazillion different gameplay tweaks work.) I tried watching the opening cutscene and, well, I'll be honest: It was pretty gay. I think we can all agree that the concept, design, plot and general vibe of Kingdom Hearts is 'Pretty Gay'.

I've heard great things about the gameplay and remember having some fun with the first KH game roughly 6 years ago, so I thought I'd give the newest iteration a shot. I'm playing as Terra, because he's the first option and is the only male character who isn't a supa kawaii ten years old boy (Ventus).
Ventus, by the way, is a stupid name. It's like the greek word for the buttcheek that is primarily flapped when you fart.
There's a lot more dumb Disney stuff floating around so far, which is better than a bunch of dumb Square Enix stuff, but seeing the grumpy wizard from Fantasia telling Mickey Mouse (who is wearing more leather than most cows have on their bodies) that 'Something dark is coming' or 'I have a shivery divery feeling' or WHATEVER his line is was silly and dumb and oh god why do I care fucking Kingdom Hearts guys.

After skipping literally 5 or 6 cutscenes I got into the actual gameplay and it is wonderful. A very fun, fast battle system that takes maybe 5 or 6 minutes to fully adjust to. My only gripe is that it needs Monster Hunter controls. And less wacky controls for choosing your attacks. Apart from that it's a really well designed system and I know I'm being a bitter critter when I say this, but it's wasted on fucking 'Pretty Gay' Kingdom Hearts. These people have had the most robust action RPG engine sitting under their butts for at least a decade and all the fluff they can come up with for it s 'WE MUST HAVE GET MICKEY SAVE US FROM THIS DARK THE DARKNESS SAVE US ANIME BOY WHILE WE FART IN YOUR MOUTH THBBBBBBT'.

Wings of Fire 10-14-2012 12:13 PM

I enjoyed playing as Terra, but he is an awful stupid cunt that I wanted to beat merrily every single cutscene.

Also his habit of yelling 'IT'S THE UNVERSED!' every five minutes is hilarious.

I recently started playing Dead Island again. I played it about a year ago when it came out and found my self having the same problem as I did back then. For the first couple of chapters you find yourself running from zombies, or breaking every half-decent weapon you find around their fat undead skulls. Once you enter the city, and you gain the ability to use firearms then the gameplay mechanic is drastically altered, making a well aimed shot the difference between a fight between a group of zombies usually lasting a couple of minutes, to 30 seconds, tops.
I also dislike how when you set off to the prison island you can't go back, i did appreciate how it warns you that you can't.. but still, I don't like being herded in one direction.

Customisable weapons... That is all.

E: I only just found out they're making a sequel, Dead Island: Riptide. Looks good from the CGI trailer.

Nepsotic 10-14-2012 02:17 PM

Yes, but the first Dead Island looked good from the trailer, and it was a huge pile of wank.
