I was talking to Dark yesterday about making the server more open. I agree. It would be awesome to have more people.
I also mentioned maybe people who are currently on the server and who are big contributors to it could maybe become moderators once the server becomes more active. I put my name down for it. I would love to be a mod on the server eventually. I also thought of special JAW Ranks for JAW employees. |
As long as the people are cool dudes and as long as they stick to the established rules and etiquette, I got no problem. I actually have a friend who’s big into Minecraft and might be interested.

Er. Something odd is happening on the server. I can't open any doors or use any buttons or leavers. When I try to, It comes up with this.

You just can't do it. Get over it. Make your own levers you can open
|
No you don't understand. That error message shows when I try to open or use any door or lever. Even my own. (The one in the picture is my own.)

I've had a look - Seems the permissions plugin has broken, but I wouldn't know how to fix it. The categories of user groups are still as they were, but they don't seem to work any more so nobody has permission to do anything.
|
Does that include other things that can be locked, like doors, pressure plates and chests?
|

|
Whoops, sorry guys. I'm working on re-doing the permission system. I thought I had put the server was offline. Sorry about that.
|
EDIT: Ah right so that's why, I thought it randomly broke or so. Mystery solved I guess.
|
I would love to come on this server, shoot some videos on here since I come from a gaming group.
|
Man, I missed so much fun going back for ender eyes!
|
Server is back up again with a new permission system. Please report any errors and things set incorrectly.
Edit: And a nice demonstration of our new and shiny anti-griefing system. |
Yay official update post!
Server has been updated to Craftbukkit 1.2.5 R4.0. In addition permissions structure on the server has been changed. There are now 5 usergroups.
Guests appear with a white username and have very few permissions. They can walk around, open doors, use buttons and basic commands but they can not place or destroy blocks at all. They can be targeted by hostile mobs. Trial-members appear with a green username and have restricted permissions. They can build and destroy blocks, but don't have access to potential griefing material like TNT or Flint and Steel. They can acquire lava in a bucket, but can not pour it out. A lava bucket can only be used in a furnace. Water buckets work as usual. Members appear with a yellow username and have all the rights they always had. Building, destroying, blowing shit up. As long as its your own shit. Moderators appear with a blue username and have all the 'cheat' commands at their finger tips (which we trust they will use responsibly). In addition they can kick, ban, tempban, IPban or undo all of those. They can also promote and demote players between usergroups up to their own group. Moderators also have the ability to inspect blocks using the CoreProtect commands and rollback a certain area as far as they want. Moderators are immune to kicking and banning. Administrators appear with a red username and control all other permissions that aren't covered by the other groups. They also have access to server commands like restart, stop, save, backup, as well as permission commands that add new permissions to groups on the fly or create new groups all together. As you can see in my previous post we also have a new rollback system. Mods and admins can use the inspect tool to see who placed or destroyed a block (even indirectly such as a fire burning down a house). It displays how long ago the block was altered and they can then decide to revert back the change that was made based on time and radius (for example t:10m r:100 would mean you change 100 blocks around you back to the way it was 10 minutes ago). This can go back all the way to today, unless we do a purge of the logged data. Finally I guess we're officially opening the server up a little more, so if you applied for a spot in the past and were rejected, feel free to try again. Have fun! |
Hmm. Hopefully the server will become a little less empty now. That's largely why I stopped playing on it.
|
Awesome! Great work Havoc. I'll ask my mates if they want to pop onto the server as guests sometime to try it out.
I'll be on today, I need to finish the Temple of Time :) |
Hey, that first bit with the tnt reminds me of that thing that may or may not have ever happened with an enderdragon.
|
:tard:
|
ARGH THE CATHEDRAL oh, oooh, neat. :)
|
Thanks for making me a Moderator. Very much appreciated guys. :)

I know it's bad of me, but when you destroyed your house I couldn't help thinking how hilarious it would be if the rollback hadn't worked.
But seriously, it sounds like you're doing good stuff, and it's looking good. Do guests have permission to access chests/place minecarts and boats (the latter at least I think they should)? And do they have a means of gathering tools like swords and food? Oh, and is it possible to turn off friendly fire just for certain groups? For example, I wouldn't want someone killing me and nicking my highly valueless inventory :dodgy:. I'm also thinking of the possibility of a griefer killing all the animals in a farm. Not that I expect we'd invite people like that, but, well... is there ought that can be done about it? Oh, and does your inspect block thing say who detonated creepers? I'm aware this is starting to look paranoid; mostly I'm just wondering. I'm aware that we can't cover every possibility and it's a risk I think we're all happy to take. |
Guests can collect dropped items and use just about everything, they just can't place blocks or destroy them. They also can't craft anything, so no swords or armor either. If they get them trough other means they can use them though. I might add a chest restriction as well.
PVP is a good point, I'll make it so that guests (and trial-members?) can't damage other players. The same could be done for animals. It doesn't say who detonated a Creeper but there are logging plugins that do that. I'm still looking around for a good one, though. |
Can you control whether creepers do environmental damage when they explode? Can that be limited usergroup?
If guests can't open chests but we want to permit them use of boats and minecarts, it's not a problem to set up dispensers at all major transport nodes. |
Creeper damage can not be controlled per usergroup, no.
Also I might have found a good logging plugin that also has a rollback feature. Might replace it with our current one, or have them side by side. Gotta do some more research. |
I just logged on briefly to see if buttons can attach directly to dispensers (nope) and accidentally creepered the corner of my home. Rollback fixed it in one second! Hooray!
|
And so the cheating begins! :nonono:
That was a joke. |

|
Oh god, don't get him started on that again! :fuzemb:

*Hums a song about TNT*

Sorry to double-post, but I had a thought for a community project that I really wanted to share, 'cus I think it'd be really fun, get us all online for a bit, and generally be cool. It's simply this:
I propose that we hollow out a large underground cavern and build ourselves a large, underground city, in the same way we built Exoddus. Start with a large cavern, say 200x50x200 blocks (I'm not sure how practically big that is really, so those lengths are negotiable) with the ground on y:10 or a little higher to avoid the lava layer, then dig further outwards from there as people need. Have a large, central column in the middle of the 'square' that provides passage to one of a few small, discreet buildings on the surface that tell nothing of what lies beneath. As we need more space, we can either expand the square or build tunnels reaching out into suburbs. Keep the shape of it all a bit fluid and organic-looking, maybe leave ores undug here and there for decoration, or just leave dug-out sections unfilled, light it with torches and other light-blocks - it could look very cool. If this idea is popular, I believe there's a large chunk of wilderness north of Ma'Spa with little there but a rubbish house I built once when I was being emo and lonely. It'll also be fairly straightforward to build Ma'Spa Rail north there and have an overground station, or have it descend to a station in the city. Obviously it'll take a lot of work, but we can say that all iron found is to be used in the initial digging and hopefully that'll work out. It could be fun, it'll get us all online, and the end result ought to be pretty epic. Make Israphel's underground castle look a bit pathetic by comparison. Plus it'd give us a huge supply of communal stone for people to take from as they wish. What'cha all think? |
