I never finished my dragon egg adventure...

It'd be sad to see it go, but I recognise the sense of the decision. But it'd be nice to have some sort of sendoff party. Preferably one that doesn't involve destroying everything, as that would really break my heart.

Slightly gutted now I start thinking of all the things we left unfinished. But it got old, and when attention started waning it just became less fun.

Actually your adventure thing is one of the main reasons I haven't made up my mind yet. I know how much work you've been putting into it and I would actually like to see it finished before shutting down. It could be the farewell event at the same time :). Even if I shut down the Tekkit server I would be willing to keep the regular server up for a month longer so you can finish it, provided that's enough time?

Also I've been planning for a long time to do a video tour of the entire server, highlighting every build with some fitting music. I'll start working on that soonish so we have a proper memory of the place when it goes down.

Manco 11-24-2012 06:55 AM

I’ve had a really dumb idea: anyone want to build an Olympic-style cauldron? Build it, light it before we start any hypothetical farewell events, then put it out to mark the closing of the server.

It’s dumb and sentimental but it could work even just as a small collaborative project.

Splat 11-24-2012 01:59 PM

Havoc, I had that thought myself. I'd quite like to, though there are a few issues. Chiefly time, and also that I'm not sure how good I can make it. If you'd be willing to edit in some mob-spawners...

There were a few things I was wondering about; could you put a plugin to prevent explosions breaking blocks (if areas are dark, I wouldn't want creepers ruining things). Also, would it be possible to make it lock night time until the evil is defeated (dread powers and that)?

Manco, I kind of like that idea.

We never did have a Spleef tournament. :(

EDIT: Actually, to make the ending more of a community thing, would people be willing to have different roles to fill in the adventure? So All who wish come along, but some of you I'd give instructions to in advance so at certain times you could say, 'Ah, well I know what happens here...' And tell people what to do next, or fill in an NPC role, or whatever.

Means of giving me more space to work with, and to make more of a tour of things. Obviously it'd take some organisation...

EDIT2:I can't get on to the server; probably shouldn't have updated my Minecraft.

Hulaabeo 11-24-2012 06:19 PM

I had an idea, not sure if you guys will agree with me on this.

If anyone is familiar with Jesse Coxx/OMFGCata, he does these "Outside the Block Videos" where he does tours of Minecraft worlds/servers. I thought we try to give him sort of a tour of our own world. I think it's fairly impressive, with our rail system, massive builds and whatnot.

So, what say you?

P.S: I was behind all the Azkes BS and what not, never got around to finishing everything. Don't kill me.

Phylum 11-24-2012 07:47 PM

I think we had all figured out that you were doing that Azkes stuff.

Wings of Fire 11-24-2012 08:02 PM

I figured it out from this thread alone!

Phylum 11-25-2012 12:40 AM

What I mean is that there were several posts back at least 30 pages ago where we all decided that it was him.

Crashpunk 11-25-2012 03:47 AM

I have plans for my Temple of Time. Making it into a separate map for people to download, I could perhaps try and fix the Redstone doors before that though but I might need some help.

I need someone with MCedit to help me with that. I've also said before that I would like a copy of the entire world. I don't want to lose it, especially genesis. So many great memories...

Splat 11-25-2012 04:00 AM

Hey, I've been thinking about my plot for the Enderdragon Egg. I'd like to extend the final part to cover large areas of the server, with other people running or organising small parts in various areas, and thus make a big event of it, a swansong for the server as it were.

If people like the idea and would be willing to take on a role, say so here and I'll see what we have to work with. Then we can set a date and have some fun with it (maybe around Christmas if Havoc is willing to keep things going that long).
Roles will vary from you providing a voice for an NPC in a certain location, say voicing a villager, showcasing a build of yours somewhere, running a particular event as part of the adventure like a Spleef tournament, or playing a role in the plot. So as I say, if you're interested, post here. Feel free to PM me if there's anything specific you can see yourself doing. Once I know who's happy to have a role I'll put together a plot of sorts. I still need to do some builds for it, and to hear back from Havoc about the stuff I mentioned in my last post (explosions, spawners and time, specifically - I may also ask for some stargates as I'd like to relive some pre-Ma'Spa events that are not really do-able with the new layout of the world). I'll get on with building once the server's up to date.
Anything people want to finish building first could be included if you let me know and I can think of a reason for and there aren't too many and I trust you to get it done on time and it's not too hard to get to.

Anyone would, of course, be welcome just to turn up and join the adventure on the day without any particular task. But if I have a few people to help I can make this a big thing, rather than a walk through a disappointingly un-threatening area where all the work is done by the people who run fastest.

Phylum 11-25-2012 04:12 AM

I'd give something a go, but my Windows computer has died again already, so I don't know how reliable I would be for something like that. With my latest hardware upgrade I'm also probably one of the best people to record things, so it might be better if I was experiencing them rather than reading a script.

MeechMunchie 11-25-2012 04:35 AM

I'll do something, I'm sure.

EDIT2:I can't get on to the server; probably shouldn't have updated my Minecraft.

I can set the server to peaceful so you have full control over what mobs spawn where, if that is something you can work with. I can't prevent them from spawning in the dark. I'll look into the night thing, no promises on that. You could still manually keep it night though.

As for giving people roles in the adventure, don't you think that would spread the few people we actually have to GO on the adventure rather thin? There isn't much use if 6 out of 7 people are part of the quest we're supposed to go on.

Server has been updated to Craftbukkit 1.4.5-R0.1.

Splat 11-25-2012 01:16 PM

On the topic of spawning, I meant can you program mob spawners for me, if I tell you where? As far as I'm aware, it's still the case that they have to be placed and correctly programmed by a server controller otherwise they just spawn pigs.

As for the quest, I meant everyone travels with the group together, but at certain times members of the group take control. So they all take part in everything, but occasionally people have a part where they're giving the instructions or reading the script. For for 95% you're just a player, but then we reach the bit I pre-arranged with you where you stop just playing and tell everyone what to do until we've completed and accomplished your section.

Phylum 11-25-2012 01:22 PM

If the game is on peaceful then mobs won't spawn from eggs in dispensers. Someone would have to manually change difficulty when you wanted mobs to spawn.

Splat 11-25-2012 05:08 PM

I want mobs to always spawn!!! I never said I didn't! If I didn't want mobs to spawn I'd put a torch down!

Havoc 11-25-2012 05:46 PM

Good news! I can disable Creepers doing damage to blocks.

Maybe make one last set of hi-res map renders, too? So everyone can see the full scale of what was built.

I'll just leave this here.

Important Server Announcement

After all your feedback I've decided to shut down the Tekkit server at the end of the current billing period (December 14th). I will be backing up the world in its final state on December 13th. You will not be able to log in anymore after I start the backup. I will upload a copy of the world somewhere so everyone can download it and use something like MCEdit to extract their creations if you so desire.

I will be keeping the vanilla server open for an extra month so Splat can finish his adventure. After that (january 14th) I will be shutting it down the same way as the Tekkit server.

Thanks, I will certainly look into this and see if it's feasible to render our entire world with that.

DarkHoodness 12-01-2012 09:07 AM

It was fun while it lasted - Also I'll be quite happy to take on a role during Splat's adventure.

Special thanks to Havoc for hosting this, and to Dripik for starting it, and of course to the rest of you for being so fun to play with while it was active. :)

Splat 12-01-2012 09:58 AM

Havoc, is the vanilla up to date with Minecraft yet? Couldn't get on last time I tried.

Havoc 12-02-2012 03:42 AM

Minecraft server has been updated to Craftbukkit 1.4.5-R0.1.

Should be updated now. Sorry about that, haven't been paying much attention to the MC updates lately.

DarkHoodness 12-02-2012 09:09 AM

Got a request: Is it possible for me to have flying or creative mode on the classic server again? I'd like to make a short movie showing off the highlights of both servers before they close.

Thanks. :)

Hulaabeo 12-02-2012 10:09 AM

I'll have to start taking pictures of my various dwellings.

I was already gonna do that :|

DarkHoodness 12-03-2012 09:46 AM

It won't be a complete tour unlike what you want to do, just the highlights in a short movie mixed in with clips that I've taken previously of when the server was more active... Nobody will watch it anyway apart from you lot.

Now you broke Splat's heart, dude. Not cool!

Crashpunk 12-06-2012 08:53 AM

I was thinking. Whatever we do to say goodbye to the server, perhaps Wil and Glitch could upload the recording to there channel? They have the most subs i.e. more people can see the server go and it would get more attention. Just a thought, it's completely up to them of course and if not, I don't mind uploading the recordings.

Splat 12-07-2012 06:04 AM

Oh my gosh; now I don't want to quit! You're blowing up all my happy memories! I hate to think that no one will ride Ma'Spa Rail or explore the buildings or adventure in the wilderness anymore!

:( Now I feel really down.

In other news, I've just got back from a week away from home and would like to reiterate the previous query; is anyone willing to give aid in running a small section of the final adventure if I give you something to do, from reading a script to running an obstacle to setting up a treasure hunt?

To reiterate, people who help me will still be able/expected to explore the whole of the challenge with the group; you won't have to appear in character or anything. Just, when we reach your bit, you get to do the running. And, if necessary, the setting up in advance. I have a couple weeks off for Christmas and would like to at least know who's doing what by New Year's Day so if you want to help out, let me know then. Everything will be finalised in the first week of 2013, hopefully.
There are some specific things I want to include and may ask you to run, but there's also a reasonable chance that you'll be able to offer suggestions if you do want to help, for areas you want to go and maybe things to do.

dripik 12-09-2012 01:13 AM

I would be glad to help, Splat. Where can one find you nowadays (as in, Steam chat, Skype, etc.)? Also, when would be the best time to do this?

I'm not particularly sad to see the server go. I mean, the whole point of it was to create a game world where OWF can interact and create stuff, and I believe we have achieved these goals. This might be the reason for why people would miss the server, but the possibility for such interactions does not go away completely with the server. I can always set up the old server for smaller groups, be it a game of survival or an adventure map, and there are always other games.

Making some videos wouldn't be a bad idea, just for the sake of memories and to immortalize the server world. I'm also thinking of a video of a different kind, but I'd need to make quite a lot of drawings for it. There is also the question of whether one is allowed to use the music of MC for such a video if it is to be uploaded on YT, but that's not too big of an issue at the moment.

DarkHoodness 12-09-2012 02:08 AM

@Splat - I'll help if you want me to. Talk to me on Steam.

@Dripik - Using MC's music for vids that you'd post on YT shouldn't be a problem.

Splat 12-09-2012 03:58 AM

Thanks, chaps. I'll play some games on Steam over the next week and speak to you then. Never did finish a second playthrough of Black Mesa.

Hulaabeo 12-13-2012 04:01 AM

Shame it has to go really, I'd be more than glad to run a small part of the adventure. Freaking love adventures.

dripik 12-13-2012 07:47 AM

I'll try to do my best on my part so that adequate adventuring may occur. Which reminds me, I should probably get to actual adventure building.

Havoc 12-13-2012 11:42 PM

The Tekkit server has officially been shut down and the world backed up. Enjoy the vanilla server while it lasts, guys!

Crashpunk 12-14-2012 11:28 AM

R.I.P

I never got into Tekkit to be quite honest. I tried so hard to love it but I just couldn't be arsed with it all in the end.

I still like it but Tekkit and even Minecraft in general has lost it's appeal to me.

Splat 12-19-2012 07:21 AM

Havoc, I've been working on the adventure the last few days, and noticed a problem. Few/no mobs have been spawning, either at night or underground or in my poorly lit building. This could be because I'm constantly in creative mode but it's not had that effect before, or in single player.

In other news, would it be possible for you to find/install some sort of plugin that would give me a command to stop time? Or is that very unlikely?

Oh, one more thing. Could the game world be backed up just before the adventure (if the answer to that is 'no' I'll refrain from what I'm thinking of doing)?

Havoc 12-19-2012 07:42 AM

I'll look into the mob problem, could be there are a bunch of mobs trapped somewhere in a cavern if you are working in and around the same chunks all the time. The mobs are then not despawned and this prevent other mobs from spawning since there is a limit.

I can't find any plugins that properly pause time. The ones that do somehow reload the server and I dunno what effect that would have in the middle of an adventure.

I'll back up the world just before the adventure. Just double check with me to make sure I didn't forget before you start blowing shit up lol.

Wil 12-19-2012 07:49 AM

You can set time with command blocks. If you hook one up to a repeater, you could keep set the time to the same time. This would, of course, cause the sky to keep flicking back and forth, but you could hang a lampshade on that. Alternatively, keep it set to midday, when the sun hangs at absolute up for a minute or two.

EDIT: Is there a rough idea of when the adventure will be? If you want a couple of Tools to record and upload the whole affair, we'd love to be there to see the server off.
