slig_hunter72 06-15-2003 07:55 PM

Dont worry, I didn't forget about you and kahnzumer. I actually have another question too!

I just got all 300 mudos in AE and it said something about Abe's mother, which I know is Sam, but you were supposed to find out more about her in MO. You never do though? Why did they not include the info on Sam?

Wil 06-15-2003 08:10 PM

The reason is the same reason that so much of Munch's Oddysee didn't make it to the final game - everything from new species such as Kintos and Skeeters, to extended parts of the storyline such as the return to RuptureFarms and the rescue of Sam, to aspects and the actual game such as Munch's ability to mimic other creatures and the whole lifecycles thing.

It's because development on the PS2 was a lot harder than was originally anticipated, and OWI kept coming across many 'potholes' in the technology, which of course had to be solved, using time, money and resources which should have gone into the game. Annex onto this the fact that the Inhabitants were pretty much experimenting with the new 3D world, plus their hopping onto the Xbox bandwagon that limited the timeframe they had to work in.

This answer coming to an FAQ near you!

are vykkers hermaphradites?

Please explain this disgusting thing about two wrinkly ugly things....dont wanna get rashional

Are they?

Sekto Springs 06-16-2003 08:28 PM

yes, they are able to reproduce with themselves to create offspring...
from the official site
"Hermaphroditic self-impregnating masters of weird science, each member of the Vykkers race is able to mate with itself to create offspring."

oddguy 06-17-2003 03:26 AM

Can they only mate with themselves, or can they mate with each other too?

Abeguy 06-17-2003 03:27 AM

hay! that's wack!:fuzconf: weird, but wack

I think it's only with themself...

Wil 06-17-2003 04:20 PM

Presumably if Vykkers A was to cut open Vykkers B and Vykkers C, he could fiddle about with their thingamabobs and get them both pregnant. Although they very well could be dead.

Humphrey and Irwin are brothers. So presumably they have the same mother (that's the word they use in MO). That means either Vykkers can impregnate themselves and give birth at least two times, or Humphrey and Irwin are twins.

Jacob 06-17-2003 05:40 PM

Where do they mention they have the same mother...?

Reptile 06-17-2003 06:04 PM

hes an encyclopedia

he is supposed to know these things

Wil 06-18-2003 11:31 AM

They're brothers, that means they have the same mother. I think we got into the whole debate of 'where does it say they're brothers?' before, but I can't remember where it says that or what we concluded last time round. I guess we could look at it like 'Latamire Munch' - it stood true in development, but since it never made the games we can assume it's still true until proven otherwise.

Reptile 06-18-2003 05:32 PM

whats that mean?

Wil 06-18-2003 05:58 PM

Jeez, you want me to simplify that? And I thought quintic equations were difficult. Here goes...

During the development of Munch's Oddysee, Munch's full name was Latamire Munch. However, that did not make the game. However again, that does not necessarily mean that his full is not Latamire Munch. It was true when MO was being developed, and until OWI say his full is not Latamire Munch, then Latamire Munch can be said to be his full name.

Similarly, during early previews and interviews with LL re: MO, it was said that Humphrey and Vykkers were brothers, but this was never explained in the final game. But because it wasn't said that they're not brothers - either in the game or by OWI otherwise - it stands to logical reason that there is no reason to assume they aren't brothers any longer.

I'm not sure I simplified all too well, but it was a difficult task.

Reptile 06-18-2003 07:57 PM

ok max, thats enough info for me

haarnak 06-19-2003 04:04 PM

1%er???

Someone could tell me what is a 1%er. I heard about it in an other topic..

thanx.:D

Wil 06-19-2003 04:18 PM

The 1%er first appeared in one of Paul O'Connor's Designer Diaries, and has remained a mystery ever since. What remains more of a mystery is how Xavier got his hands on a larger version of the picture. ;)

Basically, we don't know what it is. First impressions when it appeared were that it was the Slig Queen Skillya, but since then Xavier's larger picture reveiled the word 'Mug' at the bottom, initiating the belief that if was the carnivorous form of the Meetle. This may, for all we know, be the truth. We have seen what Mugs really look like, and it's nothing like this creature, so it could be that this is an early design that was rejected. However, because of its vast difference from the Mug we're more familiar with, some people have begun to suspect it is a species in itself, perhaps a kind of back-street race - muggers, pickpockets, thugs and the like. It certainly look like that with its leather jacket and eye piercings. It's also holding knives in its tail, and its mechanical legs are leaking.

The nickname 1%er comes from a photo of the inside of the OWI studios where the concept art was pinned on a wall under the title of '1%er'. The meaning of this cryptic header is another one of Oddworld's secrets.

Xavier 06-19-2003 08:55 PM

sorry Max but it isn't exactly that... on my picture you can read Meetle, actually Abe Babe found a little icon-size picture of it with the mention "mug.gif"

picture of it

Wil 06-21-2003 09:04 AM

Whoops, my mistake. I had to store all my Oddworld pics in zip files to fit them on floppy when my computer went off to the doctors. I wish he'd give it back, anyway, he'll probably charge us even though he hasn't done anything. That's the last time we use him. Anyway, I haven't looked at many Oddworld pics in the last few months, so my memory's not going to be at its best.

And yeah, I knew it was Abe Babe who got the Mugs picture from her E3 promotional pamphlet, but then I didn't say it was you. We also see Mugs in a Daily Deception found at Oddworld.com, although again I think you found a larger version.
