A large bonfire in your honor.

"honor"

Havoc 06-20-2011 04:28 PM

You misunderstand. There were marshmallows involved. It was all good.

STM 06-20-2011 04:29 PM

No I understand perfectly.

DarkHoodness 06-20-2011 04:58 PM

I updated the rail system map for the rule post, but people missed it, so here's a re-post. It's pretty much up-to-date except for the short railway to rupture farms:

Phylum 06-20-2011 07:05 PM

Scrabino and I really need to pool some resources and get ourselves added to that.

enchilado 06-20-2011 09:33 PM

I'm going to be working on extending the red line past the Apartments, so nobody touch that. It's going to take a while because it's not going to go directly to my house - I want to make it loop around for thirty seconds or so: down through a lava cave, up to the roof of the world, off a jump or two and then back down into my station. I'll be using pressurepad rails and note blocks to do thematic music.

E'l Scrabino 06-20-2011 11:52 PM

Thirty seconds is a long time to be mine carting  Especially seeing as your House o' Ice is basically right in front of the apartments.

I'll work on getting mo' rail resources for our project, Phylum.

Also: Dafuq? (see attachment)

There was another sign saying something about "them" being my problem too, but I took it down.

So anyway, I ventured North (assuming the sun rises in the east) and saw no cave or gravel shore. What the biscuits? Seriously.

On a lighter note: Free signs! Yay.

moxco 06-21-2011 12:33 AM

Does this server work with a not-so-legit version of minecraft? I will buy minecraft but I have no access to a credit card or PayPal ATM (at the moment that is, not automated teller machine).

E'l Scrabino 06-21-2011 01:26 AM

I could be wrong, so Havoc needs to confirm this, but it is to my understanding that the server is genuine, and that an equally genuine account is required to play.

moxco 06-21-2011 01:39 AM

Okay. When I buy minecraft will you guys have any room in your server/hearts (awwww) to let me join?

Some signs appeared in people's houses a while ago about people needing help or some shit, I completely forgot about that.

Might have to check in and see if there's any new messages at my shack.

Wil 06-21-2011 04:54 AM

Yeah, there's some Yogscasty weirdness going on. A few weeks back some signs appeared in various people's houses, all saying exactly the same thing. From memory, it was something like "[username], please help us. I must remain aloof for now, but I'll give you further instructions in the very near future."

Well last night Crashpunk found another set of signs at his place, and confirmed they were also in Joe's shack. After some investigation, we found they were also at Nile Lair, Castle Pyke, Ontrukkan Keep, Havoc's place, Splat's lair, ench's ice palace, Ridg3's house, and even STM's memorial. They all said the same thing:

:

[username], there is a stalactite cave below the gravel shore to the north.

I have left my story there.

Please help us.

They are your problem too.
So once we were ready, Crashpunk, Darkhoodness, Scraby and myself set off north looking for any gravel shores below which we might find such a cave. We soon found an extensive area of gravel shoreline east of the surface lava pool where DH and dripik built a couple of wooden huts. We found and investigated a nearby explored cave, but there was nothing stalactitic or story-like in there. I used F3 to look for any subterranean, near-surface mobs that would indicate a cave, but although we found an excavated a couple of such places, we couldn't find what we were looking for, so we continued the search eastwards.

What we found was Ridg3's auto-farm, and the nearby mining shaft that was presumably his. He had a good look around, but couldn't find anything that fitted the bill, so we decided to carry on. However, Crashpunk got stuck at the very bottom of the shaft, where waterfalls and lavaflows had trapped him. He died in the lava, so Scraby went down to save any loot that he'd dropped. Whereupon, Scraby also died in the lava, so DarkHoodness and I descended to save anything that remained.

Once at the bottom, DH thought he could see Scraby's items, but for some reason mined through a stone that was keeping the lavaflow in place, and lost most of his expensive goodies to it. I rescues some bits and bobs and place them in a chest, but I was now terrified that I would be the next person to fall victim to Ridg3's awful cave. We decided that Ridg3 was a fuckface for luring us here with these signs. I swam up the waterfall, and died of drowning even though my client said my lungs were full of air. I thought Notch fixed this bug!

I respawned at base in the middle of the night and ran back to Ridg3's, losing almost all my health to a ridiculous amount of mobs that had spawned. Diving back down, I was delighted to find that ALL of my possessions had miraculously survived. I then found myself trapped at the bottom of the shaft again, with no weapons in my quickbar, and two creepers closing in on me. Luckily I fumbled the crossbow into my hands just in time to avoid dying a second time. I was subsequently attacked by skeletons during my ascent, but managed to make it to the surface with minimal health. I stored my goodies in Ridg3's chest, paranoid that something would spawn above my bed in the night, then left, forgetting to collect them again.

Meanwhile, in trying to find back Ridg3's mine to collect his loot I'd stored in a chest because I didn't have enough inventory space to carry it all, DH managed to find AmazingManco's new lair, located to the distant north. Intrigued, I followed his directions there to explore this gargantuan construction, and realized that it was built around a gravel shore! Maybe it was Manco who placed the signs, not Ridg3, or maybe dripik since he's the only other player who'd been to Manco's new place.

Anyway, by this time Crashpunk had logged out and Splat had logged in and found the signs in his lair. He, DH and I regrouped at Manco's lair to explore this new gravel shore. There were a couple of surface caves, but no speleothems or stories in either. Using F3, I found a large collection of mobs and dug to reveal an extensive, unexplored cave system, filled with more mobs than I'd ever seen in one place. Splat and I tried to explore, but I completely ran out of both sword and arrows, and Splat set me align with his flint and steel, killing me.

Once again spawned at the main base, I returned to Manco's to collect my drops Splat had saved for me in a chest, then returned to Ridg3's to collect the shit I'd left there. I then decided to return to base to recover after these adventures. My direct route back took me close to Ontrukkan Keep, and the thing about Ontrukkan Keep is that it's a stone's throw from a gravel shore to the east. This makes it to the south of most people's bases, rather than the stated north. The only occupied home to the south is Hulaabeo's, and even then that's more to the west. Nonetheless curious and conveniently close, I took a look and, sure enough, found a single sign saying "Cave lies below here."

FFS!

DH, Splat and I stowed our expensives away before regrouping on the gravel shore. We dug where told and sure enough found an unlit cave filled with sandstone stalactites. All around the edge of the cave were signs telling a story. I copied them down before I logged out, in anticipation of telling this story here. They read as follows:

:

They came from
nowhere and
studied us from
the shadows.

They learnt our
every strength
and weakness
before...

The attack came
at night.
We had no idea.
And no defense.

Our town was
wiped from the
earth.

We fled, but
they hunted us
down and
slaughtered us.

I think I'm the
only survivor.
They know I'm
here.

It's only a
matter of time
before they get
me too.

As I ran, I
found your
settlement.

I hid in your
shadows and
watched you.

Just as they
had watched us.

And I realized
they had found
you as they
had found us.

Were watching
you as they had
watched us.

And I knew that
soon they would
attack you too,
destroy you all

Crumble your
creations,
shatter your
community...

There is a way
to destroy them
for good, but
I need help.

Fill this chest
with timber,
and I will tell
you how.

Ridg3 06-21-2011 05:07 AM

I did what now? I have yet to die by lava related incidents in my mining shaft, maybe you just can't follow the concrete path? Anyways, I was kinda pissed that someone came along and planted trees all around my recently flattened ground. And a massive fucking tunnel just along the left hand of my cave.

There is another seemingly huge ass cave just a wee bit east(?) to the farm and I'm to afraid to venture any further in it after being ambushed by at least 6 creepers.

Ench, Scrabino and I spent about an hour finding and then thoroughly searching that cave today before Splat told us we were in the wrong place. Then, with Crashpunk's help, we chopped down a whole fucking forest and filled the chest.

Alright, fine, jeeze, I fixed that for you. Honestly. :P Planting saplings in a "LOL" was me failing to be funny, sure, but I'd have hoped you'd have been grateful for the timber.

Ah well, it's mine now.

Also we (well, I) had to dig a stairway out of your cave 'cause we couldn't find the exit. I filled that in.

I hate to be possessive over my railway, but I'm not too happy with this since I want to extend the rail line north at some point soonish to service Ridg3's and WoF's places, the lava lake, and perhaps even Manco's place if he'd like (which he probably won't). Your line will be cool and everything, but do you have to connect to to the end of the main line? Can't I extend the line North a little way, and build you a separate platform instead? It'd be silly to make everyone go through that each time just to go north even if it would be cool.

Scrabino and I really need to pool some resources and get ourselves added to that.

I can probably extend the line from Warriopunk's to your places if you'd like since you're nearby - Or build you a separate platform. Give me some resources and I'll do that for you (I lost my iron in Ridg3's cave, I forgot I was carrying it :( ).

@Max - Excellent storytelling, the start of an epic saga. I should've taken screenshots. + Rep. :)

This factory project looks awesome. Soon as I'm able to access the server count me in (I couldn't access it even before the whitelist, so it may be network issues.)

Okay, fair enough. I need to collect heaps of materials anyway, so I'll connect it to the main line further along somewhere.

DarkHoodness 06-21-2011 08:30 AM

I just made a floorplan for Rupture Farm's skeleton of its outer wall. You can more or less see how much space will be available inside from this plan, I hope. The outer shell will be curved around the corners, so it won't end up looking as square as this when it's done.

Some weird ass shit is happening on our server.

Seconding this.

Probably unrelated, but I've spent the last half hour or so exploring a massive mine network that I stumbled across while setting up a mine beneath my lair.

If you have a mine that contains huge lengths of one-block-wide corridors - hey, thanks for the ores, why didn't you mine them yourself?

That sounds like how I mine, but my mine's not that big and closed due to fear of slime.

MeechCrunchies 06-21-2011 12:00 PM

I didn't think slime was an enemy. I mean it can hurt you, but if you set fire to it and the area around it, it can't multiply and it'll just burn up.

Scraby 06-21-2011 12:39 PM

Talk to Scrabino. I gave him a stack of rails yesterday. I also have enough iron to make another stack, but I like having iron spare. I'm currently working on some bedrock-level excavation, so hopefully I'll find some gold soon, too.

I dug out some coal and iron ore, but there's still tons of each left in there. I was getting pretty unnerved exploring the place, so I left fairly sharpish.

MeechCrunchies 06-21-2011 05:53 PM

I have an 8x8x32+ (I say 32+ because I'm going to deepen it MOAR) that I'm using to get stone for DH. I haven't found anything except one huge chunk of coal but once I reach bedrock hopefully there'll be some minerals we can use to get us some rail system :D

Edit: It's actually 6x6x(X). I'm so ashamed

enchilado 06-21-2011 11:38 PM

Gold is found at the same concentration at y32 as it is at the bedrock.
Iron is found at the same concentration at y64 as it is at the bedrock.

Also, diamond is found at the same concentration at y18 as it is at the bedrock, Lapis is found in a greater concentration at y19 than it is at the bedrock, and coal is found at an equal concentration everywhere.

E'l Scrabino 06-21-2011 11:48 PM

Do you know anything about dirt? I keep finding large concentrations of it. (y37)

Phylum 06-22-2011 01:21 AM

I think that's just random.

So, according to Ench, if you dig down to layer 14 and have a 4-block high tunnel you will statistically yeild the most of each subterranean resource. Of course, to manage getting to layer 14 you'd probably need to count up from bedrock.
